I had a great weekend! It was filled with friends and fun. On Friday I went to an art show at a community college on the other side of the island. My friend Jen took me and even though neither of us knew where exactly the college was, her superb navigational skills got us there with only one wrong turn.

We got wind of the art show through our mutual friend knittybird who had a piece in the show. I was so glad that I loved her piece. I was a little worried that if I didn’t like it my glass face would scream it all over the place. I should have known that her talent would shine through like it does in her knitting. Shame on me for not keeping the faith!

I did bring my camera, but I didn’t get a chance to take too many pictures as I was too involved with taking in the art. There were some really provocative pieces that left me awestruck. Such talent! Plus my knee was still tender from a cortisone shot I had gotten the day before. I keep meaning to talk more about my knee, but it never seems to be appropriate to the topic. I’ll just briefly say that a ligament in my knee has been giving me problems. It actually crunches when I flex it. Ew!

After the art show, Jen and I went to dinner at Yen King in Kahala Mall. Their hot sour soup is to die for. Really. It’s the best I’ve ever had. We walked around a bit after dinner, but my knee spoiled the fun after too long. I had the best time Jen! Thank you so much!

On Saturday I went to my local library and found to my great surprise an awesome event they were having there. In honor of Chinese New Year’s they had a Lion Dance and some story-telling. This time I was fully armed with my camera and got quite a few shots. I even fed one of the lions for good luck.

The music was loud and lively and the young dancers were vibrant. I don’t remember the last time I had so much fun at the library. You can see more of the pictures that I took here. All of this has made me eager to venture out of my comfort zone more and expose myself to even more cultural events. I’m hoping to make it to this year’s Taste of Honolulu, since I hear last year’s event was a blast.
