Yarn and a rant.

Last month I finally got to participate in one of the All Spun Up spin alongs. I’ve had the finished yarn lying around for a couple of weeks, but I finally got off my lazy ass to count yardage and weigh the skein today.

100% Blue Faced Leicester

2ply

371 yards – 20WPI

4.2 oz

I’m really pleased with the colors and this was the nicest BFL I’ve ever spun. I think I’m going to keep this one for myself and knit the Morning Surf Scarf with it.

I also spun up some Baby Alpaca from Pigeonroof Studios in the Poison colorway.

100% Baby Alpaca
2ply
224 yards – 18WPI
3.7oz

While the resulting yarn is super silky soft, I’m not a fan of the alpaca. It sticks to everything and I just didn’t feel the love. This one will be going up on my shop.

/rant on

Look at this face.

He may look all sweet and innocent and cuddly, but all that is really just an act. He’s just lulling you into a false sense of security so that you’ll leave a little fiber unattended so he can eat it.

I am none too pleased with him at the moment.

And don’t get me started on Matt Giraud, because he blew it last night.

And even though I’ve only been spinning maybe an hour a day, my knee is twinging.

And what is with strangers wandering into people’s private, over 6-foot high gated, backyards?!

/rant off

If I had a pool I’d dive in and scream, just like Nancy did in Season 3 of Weeds.

Tomorrow will be better. I just know it will. :)

Lovely yarns! I have no experience with alpaca, so I’ll take your word for it. Wow! He does look innocent – all sweet and cuddly! Can’t you spare a few inches of fiber for Sammy?

  2. Angie Says:

Naughty kitty. He’s not wool-cat, is he?!

Strangers in back yards??? Call somebody! They’re not supposed to be there and they know it. Make sure who ever has that back yard locks the house up. Just sayin’

  3. Carrie Says:

Don’t you have cusswords over there on the islands? If not, I’ll send you some – use them on the strangers.

such beautiful handspun, and the morning surf scarf is a fitting design for the lovely bfl – i’ve loved the design when i first saw it done up in different handspun in one of the issues of spin(?)- be watching american idol in about an hour…..

Tomorrow will be better, if only because I will be at the Aloha Knitters meeting, even if I have to rest my forehead on the table for a little while.

I can loan you my evil dogs. They are hell on trespassers.

  7. Micki Says:

Beautiful yarns! Warning: those ASU SALs are addictive. :)

  8. fleegle Says:

Beautiful stuff, especially that raspberry concoction!

Trespassers are why RPGs were invented :)

  9. Sue J. Says:

Beautiful yarns, Opal. Sorry your little imp loves to eat fiber. And I’d be a little ticked off at someone wandering into my yard like that, too. Be careful. Sounds like a nut job.

  10. Megan S. Says:

Yum! The BFL is really pretty! Don’t get too mad at Sammy. He knows fiber is important ;-)

  11. Roseann Says:

I do so enjoy the upclose photos of your beautiful handspun yarn. I predict Poison will not last long in your shop. I am so happy as I had “misplaced” some of my Opal markers and I found them! I need all 6 sock markers for my Knotty & Nice socks. Caitlin has a thing for yarn and ball bands, she and Sammy might just be kindred spirits.

  12. Hattie Says:

Love the yarns, bold sammy and wtf? How did they just “wander” in?

  13. limedragon :-: Harriet Says:

Awww… is it all fibers or just certain fibers, e.g. alpaca?

Pretty yarn, as always. Hope today is better!

  14. Stacey (just Stacey) Says:

But the poison is a beautiful colorway. Surely that can make up for it’s stickiness? I was upset when Michael got kicked off. I mean, working guy, from TX, following his dream. Fine. I’m more about the person than the talent. I also like Scott for what he’s done.

  15. Daniele Says:

OMG! Sophie did that and I couldn’t believe it. She hurried up and picked up a lame piece of yarn that was about 6 inches long and before I could stop her or anything, she SWALLOWED IT! Nothing came of it but I was pretty freaked out for awhile. Why do kitties like to eat wool??

The Surf will look lovely with those colors! Gorgeous spinning again Opal!! :)

I don’t get the stranger thing either. Jake (the 7 lb dog we dog-sit ) was going NUTS one day barking and he NEVER barks.

Turns out some guy was in my backyard taking pictures! Turns out he was with a real estate company and he was taking photos of the house next door.

How about knocking on the door and asking permission? That day I wished Jake was a big dog. I would have turned him out in the yard. Maybe I should have anyway. He was a 7 lb. ball of fury at that point.

  17. April Says:

I’m liking the yarn especially the blue.

Unfortunately, I can relate all too well to mischievious cats and strangers walking around in the backyard without permission.

  18. Cookie Says:

Love the baby alpaca colorway! Wonderful spinning as usual.

    Cats! /sigh

Did you hurt that person? I hope so.

  19. Becky Says:

Here’s hoping tomorrow is a better day! The yarns are beautiful, by the way.

  20. JessaLu Says:

    Pretty spinning!

I’m not a fan of the alpaca either – but only because it makes me resemble a blowfish if I come in contact with it. ;o)

  21. Agnes Says:

It’s good to let it all out! Take a deep breath … and move forward! It’s Friday … weekend is not too far away.

  22. hakucho Says:

    Oh, my…such pretty yarn :)

  23. Sarah Says:

Sammy, that is not the kind of fiber you are supposed to include in your diet!

  24. textillian Says:

Ooh la la! and the alpaca looks so soft and silky!

  25. tiennie Says:

Very pretty! Having just completed a few projects with alpaca recently, I think it’s very soft but I don’t think I’m a fan of the haze and little fibers.

  26. Karen B. Says:

Pretty yarns, though I’ve become less than a fan of alpaca. It itches me now.

And you are right to mistrust the pretty, innocent face of kitty.
