I’ve got a bit of writer’s block. I woke up at 3am Monday morning and ever since then I’ve felt out of whack. Or maybe it’s all the time I’ve been spending in front of the telly and the computer monitor.
I spent most of yesterday in front of the boob tube watching Weeds-Season3 and Cold Mountain. I should have watched Weeds after the movie, because that movie really depressed me. I mean really depressed me.
While I watched and cried for poor Inman and Ada, I knit on a new project.
Yes, that day has come. I have joined that bandwagon. I am finally making a Swallowtail (Ravel it!).
I didn’t quite believe Cookie when she said this shawl only takes about 4 days to knit. But I started this shawl on Sunday and I’m already on the Lily of the Valley Border. I’ve got a good chance of finishing this up within the next couple of days IF I don’t get distracted. (Ha!)
Never again will I doubt the veracity of the all too wise Cookie. After all, she’s made two billion shawls from this pattern.
Don’t even ask me what yarn that is. It’s a mystery yarn that I may or may not have acquired from Dorothy. Neither of us can remember. I wish I knew what it is, because it’s absolutely lovely to work with. I love the way the colors interact with each other. I’ll get some close-up shots once this baby is blocked.
When I’m not knitting, I’m spinning to the tune of “Legend of the Seeker” on Hulu. Dorothy tells me the books are crap, but the show is pretty entertaining. I get a real kick out of the slow motion fight scenes. They always make me giggle just a little bit.
Well, so much for writer’s block.
Happy Tuesday! Vote for Matt! ;-)

I get so much knitting done while watching tv or listening to podcasts.
I am also intrigued by the clear pink stuff you’re using to mark the Swallowtail Shawl.

Yay! I knew you’d give in to the magic of the swallowtail sooner or later. Personal record is a 2 day swallowtail, btw. :p
*hugs*

You know, I don’t know how many times I’ve offered to trot on over and smack Cookie for someone – add yourself to that list…
That yarn almost looks like CTH. (But it’s my favoritest ever yarn, so ALL yummy yarns look like CTH to me…)

Very pretty!
We read Cold Mountain in both of my book clubs and I really loved the book. I think it’s one of the only movie adaptation that is better than the book because they didn’t spend so much time on the boring parts. I love Weeds!

Ooooh PURPLE! Can’t wait to see it. :)

Whatever the yarn is, it’s gorgeous! I loved that pattern.
Don’t have a TV–I use the Internet to rot my brain :)

For what it’s worth I think the books are good.
Love the yarn color.

I didn’t know Swallowtail was supposed to be a quick knit. Hmm, I’ll have to keep it in mind. :)

Ahhh, Cold Mountain…such a sad tale of woe. I read the book, which I found extraordinarily depressing. Then I stumbled on the movie on HBO one night. Sad, sad, sad. I am a Civil War sap, though.
Swallowtail…pretty. I hope Sammy likes it.

I keep saying I’m going to knit one. But cookie already made me two. :D I love them both dearly. Perhaps when I get every other WIP under control.
Happy Tuesday!

I bet your swallowtail is going to be beautiful. The colors are lovely.
TV does rot our brains. :D

I just started a Swallowtail, too!
Mmmm…hulu.

Hulu is turning my brain into tapioca pudding. Have you been watching RuPaul’s Drag Race?

What do you think of season 3 of Weeds? I was super disappointed with season 2 and was nervous about continuing…
Oh and the colors in your spinning and shawl are lovelyyyyy! I am so into purple right now? No idea why! :D

I agree that Swallowtail is a quick knit. When I sit down and finally knit on it, anyway. Shetland Triangle is even faster. I knit in front of the TV, too. Happy Wednesday!

That is really pretty yarn for your Swallowtail Shawl, maybe it is Claudia Handpaints? Pretty handspun, too.

Where are those lovely lady nupps?!?
April 1st, 2009 at 5:14 am
I KNOW about Cold Mountain. What kind of insane people make a movie where it takes the whole freakin movie for him to get home, and then…. crap. If I ever watch it again, I’ll turn it off before the last ten minutes. I can live with that!!!
I seem to have a Swallowtail somewhere around here… What the hell did I do with that?? :)

I wish we could remember, too. Of course I promptly lost the tags after you wound those balls for me. Whatever it is, it’s lovely!

Ha ha, that’s so funny! I think you and I have the same TV/movie genes. I just finished watching all the Legend of the Seeker (that’s been out so far). I have to admit, I love watching it, even while knowing it’s extremely corny and has some terrible acting, lol!
(I’d say the first, perhaps second, books were good. After that, it was just a variation on the same theme. Worth a read, though, if you’re bored!)

Pretty lace and spinning!
I end up watching the Legend of the Seeker at 2am when I can’t sleep – which is way more often than I’d like to admit. ;o)

All I have left of my Swallowtail is the lace border, but I haven’t given it much attention, maybe I’ll finish it this weekend. I started a Ravelry group “Show Your Stitches” that was meant for showing off knitted pieces at Stitches conferences, one of the knit alongs was the Swallowtail, take a look to see what other Swallowtails have been done 8)
I love COLD MOUNTAIN such a beautifully written movie, I can watch it all the time.

Very pretty, for both the shawl and the spinning. So it knits up that quick? May have to try that.

The title of this post reminded me of the Hulu commercials where Alec Baldwin is a alien come to suck out the mushy-mushy brains rotted by telly.
Meanwhile, if it helps your concentrate on knitting, then so be it!
