That seems to have been the theme for my knitting life in the past week. It started when I got to the edging of the Pacific Northwest Shawl, when I suddenly realized that it was a garter stitch pattern and not a stockinette stitch pattern. Now it didn’t look awful with a stockinette pattern, but I was already feeling ambivalent about the projects because the lace patterns were getting lost in the colours of the hand paint yarn I was using. I figured this was some kind of sign that this shawl was not meant to be. Since it didn’t take very long for me to knit up the shawl, I didn’t feel like I was losing a lot of effort by ripping it all out either. So the frog pond I went.
The next project to hit the scrap heap was the Mystery Shawl 4. I couldn’t stand the yarn I was using. The colour just made me violent. So I restarted it in a color I love, but I’m a point in the pattern where there are a lot of double yarn over’s and they are quite worrisome. I’m not really crazy for the stringy look and I wonder if the shawl will get caught on things with those gaps. So the shawl is basically in purgatory right now. I’d love to know what you think, it’s the picture at the top of the post.
I don’t think the problem is with the shawl patterns I’m using, but with my eyesight. I think one of the medications I’m on is causing some blurred vision. I’m having a really hard time focusing my eyes on my knitting. So I’m going to call my doctor tomorrow and see if something can be done.
