The pretty blue yarn has been put away and will be knit into a Swallowtail Shawl (Ravel It!) sometime in the future. For now, I’ll be knitting with Plymouth Sockotta.
Now I just need to figure out if I want to do a simple ribbing or actually throw in some patterning. Since we all know what a decisive person I am, the process should only be as agonizing as nails on chalkboard.
At least one decision has been made.
I’ll be lemming with Jeanne, Cookie, Sallee, and JessaLu.
Basically you stick the yarn with the pattern you want to use into a bag. Do this for each month of the year and then you have your own personal sock club.
Putting twelve balls of yarn into twelve little bags made me realize just how much sock yarn I have. This is going to be a good thing! I’m really excited!
I think that I should try for a sock yarn moratorium as well. I still had some yarn that could have been put into paper bags and that doesn’t include the yarn I have in reserve for special projects that require extra concentration. (Like Cookie A. projects.)
Still, I can’t stop drooling over the yarn. Even Sammy is on the lookout.
I hope Monday treated you well! Hopefully there’ll be handspun tomorrow!

I shudder to think how many sock clubs of my own I could make out of my stash. I will enjoy keeping up with yours and I look forward to your upcoming spinning content.

OOo, I should do that too… But I know I’d never stick to it. I’ll just keep plugging away in my own haphazard manner.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
What a cool idea! I should do that when I finish my most pressing things…
February 9th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
What a great idea! Can I lemming with you guys? I sure know that I have enough sock yarn and patterns to keep me occupied! =:8

I’m doing it too, only I’m starting in March. I just need the bags!

I’ve knit a few pairs of socks from Sockotta and that is some hard wearing yarn. A little rough to work with but makes some durable socks that soften up a bit too as time goes on.
F.Y.I The intense colors of the first pair I made still bleed dye but I haven’t had that problem with the light green I used for another pair. Hopefully, with the lighter blue bleeding won’t be a problem.

That is such a pretty color. Have fun with your personal sock club!

I hope the Sock Club is fun for you.

Love the sock club idea.

What a terrific idea! Hope it is fun for you. You and I are so alike. We love, love, love sock yarn and lace. Yum!
February 10th, 2009 at 2:39 am
That’s a nifty idea! And yeah, I am going to knit down my stash of sock yarn, at least until Stitches South–love that STR booth!

Must.Not.Join.Sock.Club.KAL. STOP! :D The TX bluebonnet is pretty.

Ooooooh! what a great idea. (looks in pantry for little paper bags). I believe I just might do that! I have at least that much sock yarn hanging out at chez catknit. Lemmings R Us!

I’m pretty sure I would run out of bags before I ran out of sock yarn. UGH.
February 10th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
Just knit ribbing all the way down.
Have you started your sock of the month yet? :D
xo
February 10th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
I love the sockotta! Believe it or not, I’m starting to run low on sock yarn. I’m not completely out yet, but I’m getting there…
February 10th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Woohoo! Welcome to the lemming club. ;o)
February 10th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
Yea! I’m glad you are doing the sock club – can’t wait to see your first month’s pick.
But let’s not go crazy – a moratorium ?
The yarn you linked to is gorgeous…

Nice blue sock start. I’m going to enjoy watching you all with the socks. Sock yarn can’t be stopped….the earth would stop revolving. :D
Sweet Sammie

Great sock club idea! Can’t wait to see what you are going to do with the ribbing on those socks. Cute Sammy!

Good call on the change in sock yarn. I’ve knit something similar to that Sockotta, and in mine it basically obscured any type of patterning except simple ribbing. I ended up with a simple ribbed cuff and the rest just plain.
I’ve thought of joining the un-club club, but I probably have enough UFOs to fill 12 bags, let alone starting new ones. Time for a clean up, methinks.

hmmm….sammy looks so focused! good luck on the personal sock club – good idea….
February 11th, 2009 at 1:23 am
I like that idea. I may do something similar for my lace projects. Whenever I’m knitting a project I come across a gazillion other things I decide to cast on next — and then when I’m finished and ready to start I can’t remember any of my plans!

Have fun with your PSC. : ) I’m doing one for Stash Down on Ravelry. I have way too much sock yarn! I liked the blue/purple yarn from the previous post; could it have had some silk, tencel or other fiber that made it seem wrong for socks?
February 11th, 2009 at 5:59 am
Wow, I love that idea. I was airing the stash a couple of weeks ago and was shocked (SHOCKED!) by how much sock yarn I have! I really had no idea. I’ve joined a couple of knit-a-pair-of-socks-a-month clubs on Ravelry in hopes of knitting down the stash this year. But adding a touch of mystery to it sounds fun as well! Maybe if I start to come up short on the pair-a-month thing, I’ll reorganize and buy some brown paper bags mid-year!
February 11th, 2009 at 8:02 am
I agree about the sock yarn, I need to stay away for awhile I have an abundance of it. I’m knitting Swallowtail right now for a KAL in the “Show Your Stitches” group on Ravelry.

I’m so GLAD you’re joining in the PSC!!!
Sammy looks like he spies something FASCINATING! He’s so pretty.
(((hugs)))

Love your sock club…great idea :)
February 11th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
{runs to find some paper bags}
what a great idea!!
February 13th, 2009 at 6:38 am
Do you like the Sockatta yarn? I liked it okay before I knitted with TOFUtsies, which is super soft comparatively and much better for warm weather.
February 17th, 2009 at 1:25 am
How about taking the paper bags to the LYS and making the sock club that way? Oh, wait a minute….
