WIP Wednesday

I’ve been working on the Harry Potter socks (Ravelry) in bits and pieces, here and there, now and then. As you can see, progress is being made.

I have turned the heel on the second sock! *fist pump* Now there’s just 8 inches of foot left to do before I hit the toe.

Did I say “just” 8 inches?

Blargh.

My motivation is hampered.

Why? Because of this.

yarn vomit

There we have Grade A yarn vomit. I keep meaning to wind that mess into a cake, but I am daunted. Daunted by the task of untangling the gnarly knots. So many gnarly knots! I cringe from them.

At least there’s the Clapotis. I worked on it during football Sunday and it’s growing at a decent pace.

Do you see it? There are dropped stitches going on! Want a closer look? Otay!

dropped stitch!

I’m still not sure how the overall effect will be like, but I’m really enjoying the process. I’ve also reconciled myself to the fact that it looks like snakeskin. (Hai, Becky!) In fact, I’m rather fond of the comparision.

I’ve put the Clapotis on the backburner until those Harry Potter socks are done. I’m hoping this will motivate me into demonic speed knitting. Beware my glowing red eyes.

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

OH, the dropping stitches part! That was my favorite part of knitting clapotis.

  2. Cookie Says:

Put on a movie and power knit that foot! Show it who’s boss!

    xo

  3. Megan S. Says:

8 inches is 3/4 less then what you had to knit when you started working on the socks.

You know me – the eternal optimist! (yeah, right!)

  4. Carrie Says:

Yarn barf, yuck! Though working out tangles *can* be satisfying, if you’re in the right frame of mind…

  5. hakucho Says:

Too bad you didn’t live closer…I’d untangle your yarn for you ;) It’s kind of like a puzzle for me and there are days when I don’t mind untangling one bit :)

  6. April Says:

As I knit socks toe-up, after the heel turn, I can say just 5″ more or less. Whatever works. :)

Good luck wrangling the yarn tangle into submission.

  7. Agnes Says:

Happy Wednesday to you too! Tangled yarns like that always make me mad …

  8. fleegle Says:

    Wowser! I ADORE those socks!

  9. Kim Says:

Clapper DOES look like snakeskin! I’m starting to notice that grey and yellow combo everywhere now. I think it’s a nice look.

Yarn vomit…it’s got me wondering what’s so great about center pull balls.

  10. Hetty Says:

I love untangling yarn! I find it very satisfying when done. I’ll come to Hawaii to do it for you! Anything to get away from this cold and snow! Dropping stitches! Eek! That scares the heck out of me! But I’m sure it will look great!

i’m loving your knitting progress. i’m not a harry potter follower but i love that sock color combo! and snakeskin clapotis is a nice neutral colorway with enough interest so that it’s not boring like how some neutrals can be.

  12. Sarah Says:

It seems like the nudges back to Potter-verse are everywhere for me. Once you straighten out the vomit, the sock will fairly fly off the needles.

  13. Soo Says:

Oooooh – I hate those tangles of yarn. Sometimes I just have to walk away with it (particularly when it’s laceweight) as I’m in danger of breaking the yarn from tugging on it a little too forcefully!! :)

  14. bockstark.knits Says:

OMG, Ron is still around??? ;) And yes, dropping stitches is soooo much fun!

  15. textillian Says:

Lovely, though I don’t envy you on cleaning up the yarn vomit. Breath deeply.

  16. limedragon :-: Harriet Says:

Ha, I never thought of snakeskin until you mentioned it, funny! I hope you’ve got that yarn vomit handled by now, yes? Which HP colorway is used in those socks?

  17. Lynlee Says:

You know, as I was wrestling my swift into place and pulling out the table I use for my winder the other day, I thought, “This is such a hassle, why do I bother?”

Then I see posts like this and remember. It’s good to be reminded and I hope that the barf resolves itself much more quickly than it looks like it will.

  18. Hattie Says:

Too bad I’m not close, I like untangling…

  19. Karen B. Says:

What a heel! It’s fab, doll. I, like you, am not such a fan of the knotty business post barf.

  20. Roseann Says:

Clapotis is coming along very nicely, I like how the dropped section looks next to the knitted section, such a pretty contrast of color. You make a lovely heel flap, I hope all goes well as you are so very close to completed pair of socks.

  21. Jeanne Says:

Love the socks – but yuck on the yarn vomit! Clapotis is really nice – I love how different it is!

  22. tiennie Says:

I hate the untangling. The clapotis is looking good.

  23. Rockymoreno Says:

The HP colorway isn’t so bad, but I do hate tangles.

I’ve had my clapotis hibernating for awhile, I should really finish it.
