Has it seriously been over a week since I updated? Talk about losing blogging mojo. The main contributing factor has been another Fibromyalgia flare up, but we won’t touch that subject because it’s boring and stupid and it makes me cranky. Another thing that has caused this lapse is my decided lack in accomplishing anything of significance, but on Monday that changed.
Pattern: my own, for details see Ravelry
Yarn: Noro Sock – Color No. 185 Pumpkin (yeah. it says pumpkin)
Needles: Size US1 / 2.25mm
Started: September 12, 2008
Finished: October 20, 2008
It’s such a relief to have these socks behind me. The battles were epic. Well. Maybe not, but it sure felt like it. I’m telling you now, stay away from this yarn. There are knots. There are weak spots. This is a migraine in a ball.
The sad thing about this yarn is that the colors really rock. If only they could dye up a better base yarn, I’d be in sock heaven.
Now I just need to get my ass in gear and mail them off. Did I mention that I’m an infamous procrastinator of posting packages?
I think it’s time to pet the cat.
Happy Wednesday everyone! I’m off to bend wire to my will.

Why yes it has been a week since you posted! We’ve missed you.
The socks look great and I really wish I were there so I could pet Sammy. He’s just so cute!
Have fun bending wire.

You did it!
I knew you would win over that nasty yarn. At least, you can say you’ve made Noro socks now. That makes it worth while, right? *L*
They are a good lookin’ pair, too.
Loving that Sammy.
xo

Why no one has come up with a soft, evenly spun Noro knockoff, I will never know.
They look great, btw. I’ll point you to the usps.gov website, where, if you have measured your item and weighed it, you can buy your postage online, print it and tape it to your package, and merely drop the package at the nearest mailing facility. It’s brilliance, I tell you. I’m so excited about the whole concept that they should really pay me for advertising.

I know EXACTLY what you mean about the Noro. I think I have two more skeins in my stash. I love the colors, but will I knit it???? Not sure.
I wish I COULD pet the Sammy! Boy, he’s adorable and looks so sweet and soft.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

Wow!
Oh cool! You sent me socks! (Just kidding…)
The base yarn is, according to some Japanese friends, recycled carpet yarn with some old tatami matting thrown in. But the colors are breathtaking!
October 22nd, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Love the color of those socks. But I am not a fan of Noro.
You kitty is too cute. Mine beg to be petted like that.
October 22nd, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Look at Sammy!!! Ohhh he’s so cute! The socks look awesome. I know they were a major PITA for you, but they look awesome.
You get the Gold Medal for the week for completing a project from hell! Go you!
October 22nd, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Beautiful!!!!
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Glad you got those socks over with, ugh that noro…but it’s just so colorful!
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:10 pm
I’m glad you pushed through the yucky yarn to get those great looking socks! You are not the only one that was disappointed in it either. I have read a lot of complaints about it. At least you have the cutest kitty in the world!
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:18 pm
The Sammy is too cute! your pets are sure photogenic :D
You’re right about Noro. I used silk garden and though the colors are to die for, the yarn sucks.
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Sorry you haen’t been feeling well – and I am glad you are feeling better. It is too bad that the yarn sucks because the colors are amazing. Are you mailing them to me ? :-)

Pet the kitty. *pet, pet*
Migraine in a ball? Uh oh. Have fun bending wire tonight, Supergirl!
October 22nd, 2008 at 4:42 pm
::pet all the cats::
The rainbow colourway of the Noro sock is beautiful!
October 22nd, 2008 at 8:06 pm
oooh, pretty noros!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 1:18 am
I didn’t realize it until you said the name of the colorway, but that is the colorway that I got. Purdy!
So how do the socks feel on? Did you give them a wash, and if so, did that help any?
October 23rd, 2008 at 2:32 am
Who wouldn’t want to pet the Sammy? He’s a sweetheart!
October 23rd, 2008 at 2:49 am
Your inner strength has won the battle of the socks and managed to persevere through a bout of Fibro. You go girl! I want to reach into my computer and pet Sammy! Too cute!
October 23rd, 2008 at 3:00 am
Hi Sammy! I hope you were giving mom lots of love while she wasn’t feeling well. :)
Also, “migraine in a ball” is a good description for the Noro. Bad Bad yarn! You made Opal mad!
October 23rd, 2008 at 4:21 am
2 x 2 rib they may be sweetie, but what else would you do with that kind of color treatment? You’re right – the colors are sensational. You and I have discussed this before though, Noro’s colors are equisite and extraordinary but the quality of the actual yarn is really only so-so…
I’m so glad to hear you’re getting past your flare-up. I’m looking forward to seeing your future wire-work!
October 23rd, 2008 at 4:38 am
Pretty socks! You made that stuff look like actual yarn, rather than kitchen twine. I’m knitting a shawl of mine. I have encountered one knot, several spots where the fiber is like the catgut docs use for stitching wounds, and one totally wacko spot where the fiber was completely unspun – it was a blob of roving. Feh!!
Love the kitty.

Sammy is just adorable, your photo could be a greeting card. Your Noro socks look terrific and were well worth the battle. The colors are very pretty. Sound like your wire work is very enchanting for you these days, you are making some remarkable jewelry.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:07 am
I’d pet Sammy, too.
:)
(((hugs)))
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:24 am
Cute socks but even cuter kitty!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:28 am
I know pumpkin, and that is no pumpkin. But it’s pretty all the same. I am glad you are all done with them. Good luck bending wire to your will!
October 24th, 2008 at 8:29 am
There’s a “pumpkin” noro?!? Eeep!! Don’t tell my boyfriend. (He loves all things pumpkin!)
October 24th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Too bad the yarn sucks so badly but the socks are beautiful! Sammy is so mellow, no wonder you want to pet him :-)
October 25th, 2008 at 3:01 am
It is really too bad that the Noro is too much trouble to knit with, because the colors are awesome… lovely to look at :) (your kitty as well)
October 25th, 2008 at 9:12 am
Just found your blog. You make such pretty things! Pretty kitty too:)
Apparently noro washes much softer, so I decided NOT to chuck my ball. Still haven’t got brave enough to try it though.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Love the colour of the socks. Too bad there are such difficulties with the yarn! the socks turned out great otherwise.
October 27th, 2008 at 6:42 am
I’ve heard nothing but bad for the Noro sock base – this is one sock yarn where I’m glad I waited to buy some. It’s off the list now, I don’t need any more migraines than I already have! ;o)
October 27th, 2008 at 6:42 am
p.s. pretty socks, though! ;o)
October 27th, 2008 at 7:45 am
I knew you would conquer this yarn. I hope the wire bending was more enjoyable, and I look forward to seeing the results!
October 27th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
hey opal – did you see a write-up about you on lime&violet daily chum?limenviolet.com/blog/ – for oct.27! congratulations girl!
October 27th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Rainbow socks! Awesome.

My dad works with this car warranty company. I got 2 different policies from them and I have not had 1 bad issue. I`ve checked around and they have the best prices also.
