Highs and Lows

I can’t believe how this week has flown by. There were some high points and some low points this past week. One of the low points of the week was a trip to the dentist to get a temporary crown. But it was necessary and I survived it.

The lowest point was a call from said dentist yesterday. All he said was that there was a mix up at the lab and that I needed to go in for more work. My mouth was and is still really tender from the previous trip and I kept envisioning the dentist with his wicked needles. By the time the I left the house I was in quite a frenzy.

After the appointment, I felt quite ridiculous because all he did was insert some gooey stuff in my mouth for a mold type thing. It took all of five minutes.  No scary needles whatsoever. Silly Opal.

Noro Sock

I started a new pair of socks and that was a nice high point. I’m just using a simple 60st 2×2 rib pattern. I’m not sure how I like the Noro Kureyon Sock yarn. On one hand I love the vivid colors and the rustic look of it. On the other hand the yarn itself is scratchy and prone to producing yarn vomit when pulled out of the ball.

I don’t plan on keeping these socks, but I’m still not sure who I’m going to give them to. Luckily, I haven’t reached the foot yet so I still have time to decide.

Another high point has been all the beading I’ve been doing. I spewed out about 10 pairs of earrings in one day and I plan on slowly adding them to my shop.  I originally got the charms for stitch markers, but they’re much too big for that purpose.

Of course the highest point has been having Sammy here. He’s settled in quite nicely and the other two cats have fully integrated him into their little pack. For the most part he’s continued to show little interest in the yarn and the fiber, but there was an Incident when I was plying.

I keep my Lazy Kate on the floor so the yarn travels from the floor to the spinning wheel. He wasn’t attacking the yarn or anything like that.  He just decided that walking beneath it all was an excellent idea.

All my pretty yarn got caught on his tail.

He was nearly out of the room before I caught him and untangled said yarn from said tail. It was rather difficult to get back on track, but I think he realized from all the yelling and swearing that ensued that it’s best to stay away from the equipment.

Yet, I could not be angry with him for long.  Not with this face. Could you?

That is a really pretty Noro colorway!

  2. Daniele Says:

I do love their colorways, but I agree it could be softer.

Great earrings! Too bad all of the holes in my ears (three in each) have closed up due to my never having time to put any in… I am so bad that way.

Hi Sammy! You are a lovely little kitty kat!

    Awwww, what a sweetie!

    The noro yarn is beautiful!

And I’m right there with you about the dentist. Not high on my list of favorite things to do.

  4. Dee Says:

No. I couldn’t stay angry with that face either. LOL

Your Noro socks are sure pretty. I had the same problem with my Noro. That yarn could get itself tangled into quite a knot in no time flat!

Glad the second trip to the dentist wasn’t too bad.

  5. fleegle Says:

I love the earrings, Opal. And the sock colors are lovely, but I dislike the scratchy texture. Perhaps it will soften in the wash.

  6. Cookie Says:

Thank goodness he didn’t want to hurt you more!

I feel you on the sock yarn. If nothing else, you can say you’ve used it, right? ;^)

    Earrings! :D

Such a cute little face. I’m glad he’s fitting in with the boys.

    *hugs*

I’m knitting the same sock from Kureyon sock, Opal. Different color, but same pattern. I am having the same problems as you with the yarn constantly getting tangled. I finally wound it into a center ball pull, and thought that would help. Not so much. But, oh, the colors! Is your cuff a 1×1 or 2×2 rib? Sammy is sooooooooo cute!!!

  8. Hattie Says:

Awww I love sleepy kitties. I get to have kitties again when I move home! There will be several waiting for us there. :) I can’t wait. I know the kids are gonna love mauling them lol, the cats probably not so much.

  9. Roseann Says:

Sammy is a darling, he already knows how to pose for the camera. I have my lazy kate hidden from my puppies at this time. I’m glad the dentist was noninvasive with you and hope you get your new crown soon.
What size needles are you using for your Noro socks? I love the purple, however, I was not brave enough to buy any as I am very suspicious of a sock yarn that is a single ply.

Confession No. 1: I am not a cat person

Confession No. 2: I want Sammy cat!

  11. Megan S. Says:

Awe, no one could resist that face!!! I am loving the socks – perfect for some one who wears sandals year round!

  12. Carrie K Says:

Aw. Sammy is a sweet boy. Cute earrings! I’m going to have to cruise your shop when I get back from vacation.

Those socks are pretty good looking! I wouldn’t have paired those colors but they look fabulous together. Yarn vomit? LOL.

  13. Jeanne Says:

    Those are gorgeous socks!

  14. Karen B. Says:

Hey, I had that same yarn! Nice to see it knit up. It’s so great that Sammy fit right in with your tribe of boyz!

  15. Hetty Says:

Glad your trip to the dentist ended well. That Noro yarn is pretty nice. Who would have thought to put those colours together, but they look great! The earrings are cute, but not as cute as Sam! He wins in the cuteness department, hands down. Or is that paws up?

  16. bockstark.knits Says:

love that color combo in the noro!!! and oh sammy is the cutest!!

  17. Knitnana Says:

    What a beauty Sammy is!
I’d heard that Noro sock was scratchy…
    :(
    (((Hugs)))

  18. Sarah Says:

I am with you on that yarn. I have never had a cat incident with spinning, but I have only taken the wheel out in the yard a few times around the strays that I feed. Mostly, they looked at it suspiciously and kept their distance. I think as long as I keep moving and they have been fed recently, I might be OK.

  19. Abby Says:

Sammy is such a cutie! I wish my boyfriend wasn’t allergic to cats. =(

I always think the same thing about Noro when I see it in the shop, pretty buy scratchy. I wonder if it softens up after washing?

  20. Robbyn Says:

I have always found Noro yarns to be scratchy. It is a tribute to their wizardry with colors, I suppose, that I look at the gorgeous hues and am tempted every time – even though I know I will be unhappy with the feel of the finished product.

Your earrings are charming and whimsical :) I remember how much fun I used to have maing earrings and hope you are enjoying yourself as much as I did!

Sam seems to be making himself at home in good order – and record time! What a charmer. Of course they *all* are!

  21. Barb Says:

Cute kitty. Glad there is peace with the other cats. The Noro does look pretty. Hope it softens up after a good soak.

  22. hakucho Says:

Certainly not…you could not get angry at that little cutie…no not ever ;)

I love the look of the noro sock yarn knitted up. Too bad it’s scratchy. I bet if you wash it and use some hair conditioner on it it would soften up. Have never done that, but have heard you can do it…just a thought!

  23. Mokihana Says:

Sorry about the dentist… I find it difficult to go too; I’m glad you only got the goo.

    Love the earrings, too!!

How can you stay mad at Sammy? He is so dang kewt!

  24. textillian Says:

Bogey has yet to show any interest in my spinning or weaving items. I am now thankful for that.

I love some of the colorways of the Noro sock yarn, but I am curious of how it will be after a washing. I got a skein to try it out. I love the colorway that you got.

  25. Patricia Says:

Now, there’s a face to cuddle. Love the socks, n ot so sure I’m in love with Noro sock yarn. I do love the Silk Garden. You reminded me that i have some tucked away.

  26. nova Says:

I hope the dentist stuff works out, I hate when there are lab mix-ups. On the Noro Sock yarn, I just don’t know how I feel about it, beautiful , yes, comfortable for wear? Not so much. I ended up weaving mine into a scarf. I will likely make another scarf with the other ball of it that I have, but it’s not the softest thing in the world… Oh, and Dean brought back by an Angel. What? Really?

  27. Claire Says:

    Samy is gorgeous!

The Dragon earrings…love them. I know someone the other side of the world they will be perfect for!!!

  28. Alison Says:

    Sammy is adorable!

Glad the dentist thing went okay; I have an appointment tomorrow for some work. Luckily, I think I’ve finally found a dentist that doesn’t make my dentist-phobia worse.

  29. Stacey Says:

I hate the dentist too. At least it was an easy thing and no more poking.

The socks will be pretty… I hope you don’t run into any knots.

  30. tiennie Says:

Glad it wasn’t as scary as you thought it would be!
