Oh, boy.

Posted under miscellaneous

Look who came home with me this weekend!

Even though my favorite character is Dean, I named this little guy Sammy after Sam from the show Supernatural. Since Sam is the younger brother in the show and because little Sammy will be the youngest in my bunch, I figured it would be appropriate.

Sammy is approximately 6 months old and we adopted him from the Animal Care Foundation, which is the same shelter we adopted Quincy and Scheyer from.

I really had intended to adopt a little girl kitten, but once I had this one in my lap it was all over. Sammy has to be the most affectionate cat I’ve had to date. He loves to sleep on my lap, on my chest, on my shoulder, on my… you get the idea.

So far he’s been getting along fairly well with the other two boys. I’ve been crossing my fingers and hoping that this will hold out. All of my boys are still young so they should have an easy time adjusting to the new status quo.

Sammy’s also been pretty good with the fiber to date. There were a few problems knitting while he was in my lap, but I think that’s to be expected. For the most part he’s left the yarn alone.

The best thing is that he hasn’t shown much interest in my spinning wheel or in my spinning fiber. I’m a little nervous about plying with him around. All those strands of yarn dangling from the floor to the spinning wheel might prove to be too much for a kitten to resist. I’ll have to put him to the test soon as I’ve got two sets of singles eagerly waiting to be plied.

I’m a little nervous though, I haven’t been very successful in swaying him from his intended course of destruction. It’s really hard disciplining such an adorable ball of fuzz.

Happy Sunday, everyone! I hope you’ve had a great weekend. Next time there’ll be actual fiber content. I promise!

    What a face!
And also, water guns. Work wonders to “dissuade” a young animal intent on destruction.

He’s so cute! Congratulations on the new addition to the family!

Yay! He’s cute, looks like a wild animal.

Both Ella and Cricket went through stages where they wreaked havoc on the knitting; removing WIPs from the needles, deconstructing skeins of yarn in a great frenzy of destruction. Ella preferred Lamb’s Pride, while Cricket’s fiber of choice was Dale Sisik. He DID grab and run away with a skein of Lorna’s Lion and Lamb, but I got it back before he trashed it. Each dog’s frenzy of destruction lasted about a month, at age 5 months, then it faded. I can knit around them, now and leave WIPs all over the house with no consequences.

Wonderful, Opal!! I am so happy for you, Sammy and the other boys. How terrific of you to give yet another lost kittie soul a loving home. Such an adorable little boy!

A happy tribe of boy kitties! What’s not to love with a face like that?! Just think: if he’s fairly relaxed as a kitten, he’ll be a real mellow dude when he’s all grown up.

Oh, little Sir Sammy, I can see you’re going to get away with murder, with those big eyes and little furry tufts at the bottoms of your feet… you’re a handsome fella, indeed, but be nice to your mama and her wool!

Ooooooh! what a beautiful kitty. I love male cats, they seem to be more affectionate. My boy was so kind and fun. He loved to play. He would also lay upsidedown in my lap and watch me knit from the underside. He didn’t bother the yarn, either. He did play hockey with my thimble every night though. I’d have to play seek and find every morning. I surely do miss him.

I can see why you couldn’t resist! What an adorable guy!

Sammy — you be good so Opal doesn’t have to banish you to another room while she spins.

  34. Robbyn on 15 Sep 2008 at 3:10 am #

Well, isn’t he the rat’s behind! What a nice little tabby. Seems to like the camera too :)

A word about Supernatural? I like it a lot . really fun show, good actors and good chemistry. But I hope you’re more successful at watching that program and knitting than I am. Either I get too creeped out my the eerie atmosphere of the story, or I get completely distracted by those two gorgeous young men (and let’s be honest, dad isn’t too shabby either!). One night I picked up gusset stitches and actually knit a couple of rounds of sock foot before I realized I hadn’t turned the heel. Sigh…

Serves me right, I suppose, for looking at young men with lust in my heart…

  35. soo on 15 Sep 2008 at 3:27 am #

    So adorable…..

  36. soo on 15 Sep 2008 at 3:28 am #

Oops - hit submit by accident.

Anyway - he’s adorable, and it’s made me desperate to get a kitten. But I must resist. For now at least….

  37. Jessica on 15 Sep 2008 at 3:52 am #

OMG he’s adorable! Reminds me of my parent’s kitty. Congrats! :) And good luck with that plying. I think you’re probably right to be a little worried. ;)

  38. textillian on 15 Sep 2008 at 3:57 am #

Cute! And he stays out of the fiber! Good kitty.

Oh boy! Sammy looks a bit like Edgar the cat of my piano teacher! Very affectionate too … love to be scratched all the time … very handsome young kitties, both of them.
How I envy you surrounded by these furry friends. :)

  41. nova on 15 Sep 2008 at 7:09 am #

I am still catching up, but you have been busy! I love your tweed socks, and I am also a fan of Dean moreso than Sam. But you are right, Sammy seems most appropriate. I think you are going to have your hands full!

  42. Dee on 15 Sep 2008 at 8:15 am #

What a cutie! Great that he’s so cuddly.

  43. Daniele on 15 Sep 2008 at 8:27 am #

Sooo cuuute! Congratulations on your latest addition to the family!

  52. JessaLu on 17 Sep 2008 at 5:16 pm #

    awwww he’s so CUTE!

  53. Denise on 17 Sep 2008 at 6:12 pm #

I love it when they look up from upside down.

I have two older cats, 5 & 9 that can’t resist chewing in two any string they see. I have to guard my plying and my skein winders, dog forbid, I have to stop long enough to potty break.

  54. lobstah on 19 Sep 2008 at 6:24 am #

What an irresistible little face! Congrats! :D
