Friday has snuck up on me. I’ve been so busy, the whole week has gone by in a blur.
There has been spinning. Spinning of an unexpected colorway. I’m calling it Spring Bouquet. All I could think of when I was spinning the singles were Easter eggs, but it’s not Easter.
I normally don’t choose pastels, but I couldn’t resist this blend of fiber. It’s 50% alpaca, 30% silk, and 20% merino by From The Wool Room. It was heavenly to spin despite the fact that I kept expecting the Easter bunny to jump out and yell “boo!” at every turn of the wheel.
Once I finished with the pastels, I searched for the antithesis of pastels for my next spinning project.
I came up with this.
I feel like I’m diving into the ocean whenever I work on this. I just love these deeply saturated colors.
It’s also been a great mail week. Since Kris has shown me that she’s got a bigger fiber stash then I do, I’ve decided that I need to catch up with her.
My newest acquisitions from Hungry For Handspun aka the Moonlight Baker.
I don’t think I’ll have a problem catching up with Kris’ stash size. In fact, I might already have done so and more. But pulling out all my fiber and taking a picture might be too traumatizing, so we might never know.
Another acquisition for the week was a gorgeous sock project bag by Cheeky, my Plurk buddy. She just opened her Etsy store this week and I was her first customer!
I couldn’t resist the hot pink kittehs and I’m really impressed with how well it’s sewn.
One last thing. I’ve thrown together a shop blog, so I can blather about what I’m doing for my little endeavor there instead of doing it here. Hopefully I can maintain both blogs without too much trouble.
Happy Friday everyone! Have a great weekend. :)

Such beautiful colors in this post!! I think the Easter Bunny wouldn’t say “boo!” but rather “Egg!” maybe?

Such pretty colours! Sometimes when I see nice roving, I can’t tell if I want to learn how to spin or if I want to dye things more. :p

That first handspun is DARLING! So many visual delights in this post. I wish I didn’t have this perpetual fiber diet because all those are yummy. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! That’s a really hot bag!
It shouldn’t be too difficult for you to dive into the sea, right? ;) Wish you a wonderful weekend.

Oh man, those pastels! GORGEOUS. Good thing I’m allergic to alpaca or I’d be tempted to steal it. ;)
LOVE the kitty bag, super cute!

August 1st, 2008 at 4:17 pm
man I love everything, especially the easter bunny yarn!
August 1st, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Opal, light and dark. Sorry. It’s a Six Feet Under reference.
It’s OK to be drawn to the pale palette of Spring as well as the deeper, more intense colors of earth, sky and nature. Both ends of the spectrum (and their representative batts) rock!

I just want to rub all that roving all over my body! :P

Your eye for color is amazing – even when it’s something (like the pastels) that you don’t particularly like yourself. Beautiful stuff, Opal :)
And those kitties are just as cute as can be!

Love!
I love those pastels as well as the blue and that bag is adorable.

I love the blue one, and can’t wait to see how the Water Lilies comes out. Those are great colors! I’m still avoiding learning to spin on purpose (because I have quite enough stash to use up as it is without spending half the time I would normally be knitting making more yarn!), but I really appreciate those who do, and yours is so beautiful and even and thin. Beautiful!

Isn’t Lori’s alpaca/silk/merino fiber the best? Yours is sooo pretty. I had been looking at the Spirit Trail website and thought of them as I looked at your next roving and here you got it from them, too! Looking at all your singles and rovings really puts me in the mood to spin, which I will hopefully after I get home from work.

That hot pink cat bag is cute!
It might not be Easter but those colors are still beautiful. Deep Sea Diving looks like its going to spin up into something pretty special too. And Water Lilies. And Earth Day. Hmmm. I seem to love them all. Why do I have that song “More, more, more!” running through my head?

August 3rd, 2008 at 1:45 pm
