The Akaka Bill was rejected today. The news said that it was rejected on the grounds that it would subdivide the country. I’m really dissapointed. Why give one native peoples rights and not another?

I may be missing a news story, but from what I can find it wasn’t that the bill was actually rejected (yet) by the Senate, just that the United States Commission on Civil Rights issued a report against passing it.
Interesting to note that the two members who voted against the report (so in favor of the bill) are the only two Democrats on the commission.
