Day three of the Tour de Fleece saw many hours of spinning. While I watched the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, I plied these singes

into this yarn.

I’m really pleased with the results and I’m eager to throw this on the needles and knit some socks. I’ll probably fall back on a simple 2×2 rib, but I might mix it up just a little by doing it toe up.
Once I finished plying, I had no choice but to turn to the Corriedale From Hell (CFH). Now I’m not sure if it was felted or if it’s just crappy fiber. There are a lot of neps in it which makes the yarn somewhat lumpy in areas. I try to pull them out as much as possible, but it’s a losing battle.
At the end of the night, this is how full the bobbin was.

I think I’ll spin on the CFH on alternate days. So I’d like to start on another fiber today and while I had all these plans to start the Queen Mermaid, look what came in the mail for me.

These were all gifts from Loribird of From The Wool Room! And she’s the one who had the birthday. Talk about guilt.
The yarn is her hand-dyed sock yarn in the color Wildflower Meadows, the fiber is Superwash Merino/Alpaca (I think she dyed it herself as well), and the magazine is the Spin Off Issue Summer 2007 that I’ve been coveting. It’s a super special package that really warms my heart, so thank you Lori!!
Now I just need to figure out whether I want to neglect Queen Mermaid in favor of Lori’s lovely fiber for the fourth day. I’m the most indecisive person I know, so this will be interesting.
ETA: I’m a doofus. Today was the fourth day. So I edited this post to reflect the change in which day of the Tour de Fleece I’m on. :-P

I am in awe of your spinning ability!

I would dither endlessly. And then change my mind.
Wow, that spun up into a great looking yarn. 2×2 ribbed socks would be excellent. Toe up? You crazy girl.

Glad you like it all! I’m pretty amazed at how much spinning you’re gotten done - you’re on fire!

Well for being Corriedale from Hell, it sure looks pretty!

ooooh, the 3 ply is lovely! and the corriedale doesn’t look that bad, i’m surprised you’re still keeping up with it. i would’ve just thrown it in the trash.

I LOVE that 3-ply…it will make wonderful socks. And even though the CFH IS the CFH, it surely is a pretty color. I got my first stuff off the Louet plied…it’s as I thought, just at the low edge of sport weight (18 wpi) and I loves it.
hugsssssssssssss

The yarn is gorgeous - you are really such a good spinner. I also like the CFH - it looks really nice - can’t tell you are having such a hard time with it…

Doh! I just hate it when I have to spin a Corriedale from Hell! Hopefully, the Queen Mermaid will do better for you - it drafts so very well. That Loribird is something special, non? She sent me some roving, too. So, trust me when I say this - the Queen will be waiting for you…..spin something to make up for the stress of the previous experience!

Gorgeous, as usual!!

One thing is sure! You are no doofus! Oh, okay, maybe just a little. But doofuses are my favourite kind of people! You are a very creative and talented doofus to be sure. Can’t wait to see what you decide to spin next.

That yarn is beautiful! It makes me think of a sunset.

Your spinning is wonderful. Even the corridale which I know you will beat into submission! You have so much good fiber there it’s no wonder it’s difficult to decide what to knit next.

Wow, Opal, I want to spin now! I had put that aside for a while, but looking at all you are doing is making me drool….(and I must learn how to 3-ply yet)
Thanks for inspiring :)

My goodness - you’re producing some beautiful yarns there! Your remarks about the CFH remind me why I prefer to due *after* spinning. Well - it’s not like i could spin it up anyway!
To my knowledge, I have never had any corriedale based yarn so I can offer no information about how easily it felts. I can say that every merino I’ve dyed has gotten a little *sticky*. Not enough to impair winding or use - just enough to let you know that something happened :)

Love the colours!

To my knowledge, neps are a matter of the processing. It is not something you can do in the dyeing. I think you might have gotten some bum roving. But it sounds like you are persevering.
The plied yarn is wonderful. Where did you get the fiber and what colorway is it?

WOW! I love your colors!
