It comes and goes.

Just when I thought the knitting mojo had made a return, it made an abrupt departure once again. However, it did make a brief reappearance on Saturday when Veronica and I went out for dim sum and Starbucks. We had a fantastic time and I was able to get the first Nanner sock done.

I usually start the second sock right away and that was the plan. So I sat down to watch 30 Days Of Night and was all settled in with my needles. Instead, my hands sat idle as I was mesmerized by this movie. If you like vampire/horror movies, you might want to check it out. I thought it was very well done.

Now it’s Monday morning and the sum total of my knitting accomplishments for the weekend is this.

That’s because I finally taught myself to Navajo ply on Sunday. I used this video as my major resource. Let me just say, Rexenne is a goddess. Someone had shown me how to do it before this, but it continued to mystify me. The slow motion excerpts in this tutorial are genius.

Still, I’d been resistant to actually sitting down and trying this technique mainly out of fear of something new. After going to MDSW, that fear was squashed down pretty quick. Compared to going to the East Coast, which stretched my comfort zone to all kinds of amazing levels, what was a new spinning technique?

Once I got started, I realized that, just like my fear of hopping on a plane to places unknown, my fear of a new method was unfounded. I was soon zipping away and having a ball. I think being left-handed might have helped as well, since I form the loops with my left-hand.

The results of my first efforts.

So the knitting mojo comes and goes, but I’m okay with that. I’m taking Jane’s advice to just “go with the flow.” After all, these are my hobbies and they aren’t meant to be work.

Happy Monday! Don’t let the week drag you down, it’s a short one. :)

Very good job on the plying!

Good advice on the knitting mojo, too. I find that, though my mojo wanders off from time to time, it always comes back eventually.

I know what you mean about stretching your comfort zone. When I was in the Navy, my comfort zone went all kinds of out of shape! I mean, dang. I flew to ITALY, by myself!

You’ll finish the other sock at some point. It’s not like you’re freezing to death over there or anything.

    Lovely spinning!

If I just raved and gushed about how great that sock is, would it incentive-ize you?

    It’s truly beautiful!

Great job on the Navajo plying! The yarn looks great. And your Nanners are looking plenty good, too. The mojo will give you a window of opportunity one of these days soon. I’m supposed to sew a sweater together tonight…it’s been marinating, blocked and ready for seaming, for nearly a year. I guess you could say my seaming mojo is wrecked. I’d rather spin!

    hugsssssssssssss

I adore that sock! And I saw your mojo fly by on the way to Arcturus. It will be back before you know it!

Beautiful sock! Thanks for the link for the plying - I really want to learn how to do it. Love the yarn - great job!

  11. Dave Says:

Yes, the flow. If it’s not fun, don’t do it. It will be back for its turn after you’ve finished doing whatever else happens to be the fun of the day.

  12. Hattie Says:

You did such a great try! It takes me a few minutes to get in the swing of things when I do it too. I’ve got like 5 mini skeins around from practicing. Keep at it!

  13. Hattie Says:

God I can’t think straight! I meant Great Job. (I plead insanity from the heat)

  14. textillian Says:

The yarn looks great. Very consistent. And the sock looks like it is progressing well. Stop worrying. This is supposed to be fun. Remember?

    ::gazes raptly at beautiful sock::

    Sigh…

Your plying looks fabulous! Now, don’t you feel like the cleverest thing that ever lived? Well you should - for two reasons:

    1. You’ve added a new and very useful tool to your spinning abilities.

    2. You’ve conquered the part of you that was afraid you couldn’t do it!

    Hurray!

The only good vampire is Angel.

Cute socks! I love that pattern. The plying looks good too. Love the colors.

  19. Roseann Says:

You did a beautiful job of Navaho plying, I can’t wait to see it all knit up. I get overwhelmed with my projects at times. I’m really in the mood to knit mittens these days, for instance. I appreciate the go with the flow advice.

That color you’re using for Nanners is simply scrumptious! : )

  21. Barb Says:

That was a good vamp movie. It’s amazing how you can knit at all with all that spinning you do.

  22. hakucho Says:

Your Nanner sock is beautiful :)

  23. Karen B. Says:

Both Nanner and the results of your Navajo plying look like winners to me!

  24. carrie Says:

Wow. I totally need a spinning wheel. :)

  25. nova Says:

The socks will get done eventually, right? And yay for you learning Navaho plying. I will have to take a look at that video (thank for the linky linky), as Navajo Plying is something that has mystified me as well.

You better find that mojo and fast, cuz that first sock is drop dead gorgeous!
