I haz knitting mojo.

Since I finished those Burgundy Ditto socks, you know I had to start another portable sock project. Since I had some lovely Shibui Sock yarn on hand, you know I had to use it. Since I’ve become an obsessive Plurker, you know I had to use a pattern specifically designed for us.

So on Tuesday while I was out running errands and doing some $hopping, I started the Jonquil Nanner socks.

*love*

I’m usually a top down sock kinda gal, but as you can see this particular pattern is toe up. Lemme tell you, I’m lovin’ it. From the Turkish cast on to the nifty heel flap, it’s all love.

One of the reasons I’ve been so resistant to the toe up method is the short row heels. With this shiny new to me method I get a heel flap and gussets.

Seriously. What’s not to love?

I haz knitting mojo.

Now if I could just get the spinning mojo to cohabitate with the knitting mojo, I’d be a happy girl.  Why they can’t exist together as a couple is a complete mystery to me.

I love them! You did a wonderful job and the yarn choice if fabulous.

Mmmm … lovely subtle colouration in that yarn!!

I recently did my first toe-up flap as well and was quite impressed at how easy it was.

Those socks are GORGEOUS! I love that buttery yellow color. And is that a little mermaid stitch marker????

    You’re a flapper?!

    You’re a plurking flapper?!

Love the color and the pattern. Even though, I love me some short rows.

I love the colour of the new socks … so summery … like ice cream.
When I did toe-up socks, I used short row heel but not heel flaps. Then I found that I like cuff down socks more … and then I found that I like heel flaps. But there are some patterns that I would love to make are toe-up … will have to start again eventually. :D

Gasp! Beautiful! About time you got your mojo back.

Why don’t you try my toe-up sock? It’s the very first post on my blog. No flap, no short rows, no hassle.

Very nice sock – Love the pattern and yarn.
So try to do a hour knitting and a hour spinning and see how that goes.

Yay Nanners! I knew your mojo would return.

  9. Karen B. Says:

Beautiful socks, those Nanners! And if they aren’t meant to be together (knitting and spinning, I mean), then just let it be. Enjoy whichever muse strikes you.

  10. Stephanie Says:

Yup, toe-up socks are definitely great when you don’t have to do a short-row heel flap. :) Hurray for getting your knitting mojo back!

  11. Rosa Says:

I must say it again, that is a lovely color for socks. You have inspired me. Now, I have to figure out whether to buy or to dye. The pattern is definitely working with the color. The design doesn’t get lost in a solid, like it may in a variegated. Have fun knitting because I still have no idea what the heck plurking is.

  12. Beki Says:

Why you don’t have both at the same exact time is an easy answer. You need to spin to get the yarn.. You then need to knit the yarn into something nifty. Thus you will always be doing on or the other as part of the cycle ;)

Great looking nanners so far! Sigh….Shibui……..

Ohhh… nice! Is your knee feeling better?

    See you soon!

    Hugs!

Very very pretty. I’ve been away from blogging/reading blogs for a little bit, but I’m back. I missed you!

Now, I must look up more on the Turkish cast on. :-)

  16. Wendy Says:

Your Nanner sock is just gorgeous!!

  17. Robbyn Says:

Wow – that yarn is even more beautiful than in the first picture! Gorgeous socks!

My theory is that the universe never allows more than one type of mojo to be in effect at any given time for most people because there’s only barely enough mojo to go around as it is :) Even so, some folks don’t get much if any at all!

  18. Jeanne Says:

Very pretty – love the color!

  19. Soo Says:

ok ok ok – I’ll try a toe up sock. But don’t expect me to like it – I have stronger powers of resistance than you – so easily turned. pfffft. :)

  20. knitnana Says:

They’re so pretty! Whoohoo on getting the mojo back!
    (((hugs)))

  21. Romi Says:

Ooooh! I love the color! Very very pretty pattern, too. :)

  22. Hattie Says:

Gorgeous! I need to get back to work on mine…

The two mojos don’t get along. It’s an old, old fight and we think it involves a romantic relationship gone wrong. At least that’s what I like to think. ;)

    VERY nice socks!!!

    Beautiful socks :)

Glad you got your knitting mojo on! The other will follow in due time. Love those socks. Great colour and pattern!

  26. Roseann Says:

Wow! That is one gorgeous sock! I appreciate the upclose detailed photo. Your sock looks so nice on your petite foot. I like my socks fairly tight, but when there are yarnover in the pattern, they get quite stretched and do not look very good. Your gusset is especially stunning, very pretty!

  27. textillian Says:

What great looking socks! And toe up, too! Swoon!

    Ok, enough exclamation points.

Actually, it might be a good thing to not have the spinning mojo and knitting mojo going on at the same time. I think the key is to get them to alternate in the proper pattern so that when the spinning mojo fades and the knitting mojo starts up, you have just finished yarn to work with….

  28. Julie Says:

Yes, I recently discovered Wendy’s very cool method for doing a turned heel with a heel flap & gusset on a toe-up sock. I just had to rework the numbers to suit my sock, but I think it may be the perfect heel!
I’m not usually a yellow person, but those are very pretty socks!

  29. tiennie Says:

Such a pretty and delicate color! That is a great way to do toe-up!

  30. Debi Says:

I still don’t get the Plurk but the socks are dishy :)

I put some jonquil shibui in my sock yarn blanket cause it’s so pretty!

    TCO huh? :::big smile:::
