Spin Spin Sugar

I surprised myself this week when I realized that I now have three new skeins of handspun yarn to show off. It seems that once I admitted to having a problem with the plurking, I was able to step away from the keyboard long enough to get some spinning done. Not only that, but living 6 hours behind the East Coast means I go to bed much later then most folks. So when my plurky friends are in dreamland I often find the time to get even more done.

The first skein is Blue Faced Leicester that was a gift from my generous friend Naomi.  The tag on the braid only had fiber content. I have no idea who dyed it.

The second skein is a Merino from The Yarn Wench in the colorway Hearth.

The final skein is some mystery wool that was also a gift from Naomi.

All of these are 3-ply yarns and are most likely going to be knit up into socks.

Speaking of socks, Summer of Socks begins tomorrow and I’m such a doofus. I still have two pairs of socks on the needles. There’s no way I can kick off the KAL with a new pair. Well, I could start a third pair but that would be bad. My aim is to finish projects this summer. Not create more UFO’s.

Only my knitting mojo seems to have left me. Not helpful. Not at all helpful. If you see it, please tell it to return home.

The spinning mojo is another story. I have been diligently spindling for at least ten minutes each day thanks to the support of my good friend loribird. We take spinning breaks from plurk together just to spin.

I’ve also been practicing spinning on a wheel and plurking at the same time. I figure if Wendy can knit and plurk, I should be able to spin and plurk.

Those who plurk together, spin/knit together. Good times.

Happy Friday you all! Have a good weekend!

I’m with Debi. I looked at the website, but I’m not sure I understand the draw of Plurking either. Could you tell us more?

    The yarns are BEAUTIFUL!!!

Happy knitting. Of course, you can always finish the socks on the needles and enjoy the fun of SOS. They just won’t count toward the prizes.

Oh I hate it when my spinning mojo takes off without notice. I always feel so lost without it :( If I should happen to see yours, I shall try to convince it to return.

Your yarns are yummy :) But they always are and, as always, I shall look forward to seeing what you create out of them. There’s something about watching the fiber grow through its stages – roving to yarn to sock (or whatever) – that’s deeply gratifying. all the more so if, like you, one works it through those stages oneself.

  14. Lisa Says:

Beautiful handspun. The top one is my favorite. :)

  15. Becky Says:

So you went from 10 minutes a day to all night long? They look good! Your knitting mojo isn’t gone, its letting your spinning mojo take the lead.

  20. Jane Says:

I think you have produced lots of lovely yarn so I think you will just have to wait for your mojo to come back from vacation :-) Summer of Socks sounds perfect for you. For me, it’s Summer of Lace :-)

  21. tiennie Says:

    Yowzers – those are pretty!

  22. Patricia Says:

Oohh, they are all so pretty. I missed the SOS deadline by less then a day. I will have to keep a sharp eye out for next year!

  23. Roseann Says:

You have spun some gorgeous yarns! I, too, signed up for the Summer of Socks but now I am focused on getting more projects done to send to the Dulaan project. Tonight, I actually felted for the first time (2 hats) using up the last of that not-so-soft yarn I spun.

  24. Mokihana Says:

I love the blue/green one the best. It reminds me of the ocean from back home.

Try go swim for me, okay?

  25. Tiny Tyrant Says:

That first yarn looks like light on the ocean. It’s gorgeous.

If you won’t knit with it, I’m happy too. ;-)
