One of my goals for going to the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival was to test drive as many wheels as possible. I was on a mission for a second spinning wheel.
I tried two Ashfords. I tried the Journey Wheel. I tried the Schacht Ladybug. I tried the Lendrum DT.
In the end I was torn between the last two, the Schacht Ladybug and the Lendrum DT. So I thought listing the pros and cons would be a good idea.
- My two cohorts in crime both own a Lendrum so I would have a good support network in place.
- The Ladybug is so cute!
- The Lendrum is extremely versatile and has a plying head.
- The Ladybug is so cute!
- The Lendrum is a folding wheel making it easy to store. (A definite plus for my small house.)
- The Ladybug is so cute!
- Someone was selling actually her barely used Lendrum locally.
And that’s what clinched it. I wouldn’t have to pay for shipping and I’d actually get a better price then I would if I bought the Lendrum new.
And on Thursday night, I came home with this.

And despite a really messed up right knee, I was up until 2am that night plurking and spinning.

I’m completely in love with this wheel and I think it will serve me well. Don’t get me wrong, I still have much love for my Majacraft Suzie. I’ll just be able to have more projects in the works with an additional wheel at hand.
Later today, I plan on heading over to Aloha Tower where the Aloha Knitters are meeting for WWKIP. That’s if I can manage to tear myself away from the spinning wheel. The only reason I managed to stop and write this post is because I needed to ice my knee. :-P
Here’s a picture of Quincy trying to squeeze himself into a basket. It was quite a sight. Big cat! Tiny basket.

I hope all you knitters managed to KIP a little today. Have a great rest of the weekend!

congrats on the wheel. I’ve asked for a wheel for my graduation present, so hopefullly this time next year I’ll be looking to get one. When I was a kid my friends large dog used to try to sleep in the (much) smaller dogs bed and often managed it, the small dog would then laze in the large dogs bed. Most amusing!

Lucky you :) Your new spinning wheel is beautiful. I was asked what I would like for my birthday…I said a spinning wheel…like that would ever happen. Besides I would need to take lessons as well. I can dream, right?
Quincy is beautiful and I would say the basket fits him just right ;)

Good for you, Opal! I really like how cute the ladybug is, but I think most of us need a bit more than just cute. ;^)
Ice that knee and get the kitty a bigger basket!

Nice wheels!
Perfect size basket for Quincey. Almost.
My KIP’ing was done pretty much on my front porch. My get up and go, got up and went. Without me.

That’s some beautiful spinning - laceweight? Or will you ply it? Congrats on your new family member…
(((hugs)))

It’s a beautiful wheel, lucky you to get it! Looks like it’s spinning well for you too.

Congratulations on your new wheel. Do you have a name picked out?
Your spinning looks lovely.
I KIPed at our main library with quite few other knitters, there was even a local tv news camera to film the event.
Hope your knee feels better.

Lovely wheels! My old one was handmade from walnut…kinda sorry I sold it now. But not THAT sorry :)

I’m so glad you love your new wheel! I have mine set up for plying most of the time. I know I am biased, but I have seen many happy spinners who have Lendrums. I enjoyed looking through your inspiring stash additions. We visited Al’s ailing father this weekend and your blogs are motivating me to get back into my spinning.

Ahh good, the lendrum is now home. I am so glad you got it. Just remember you can always get a ladybug later….

Beautiful wheel! Congratulations on your purchase.
I didn’t get to KIP yesterday, as I had to work all day. Where I work is not conducive to knitting. Filthy and oily. It would ruin instantly any yarn brought into the place.

Congratulations on your new Lendrum! (I still don’t have mine but evidently Gord Lendrum has shipped a supply to Woodland Woolworks, so I may actually get it in this lifetime. I was beginning to wonder.)
Taos Yarn Lovers KIP’d in the Bent Street John Dunn Shops Mall here in Taos. We had a great time, and Lori from The Yarn Shop gave us raspberry lemonade and a discount. Hope all the Aloha Knitters had fun, too!

I think you made the right decision. Cuteness fades, after all. As with boyfriends, so with wheels, go for durability.

I love my lendrum dt! It is a really great wheel, and as cute as the ladybug is…um function. Not that you would need it, but lendrum makes a lace flyer if you want to spin super thin laceweight. Now I want to spin….

Great spinning wheel. I have an old Ashford traditional, but I love mine. As long as I’m learning it is good enough, but I guess after some time, I think I’ll buy a new one.
Right now I’m spinning wool/angora, and I will dye the yarns after, it is so funny.
And that yarn and fiber from before is so stunning, I can understand that you wanted to eat the fiber.

Hope your knee feels better soon, and enjoy your new spinning wheel!

AHA! I knew there was a Lendrum love under your skin when you suggested to me to buy one! ;0) I’m so excited for you, acquiring one of those puppies…and look how much spinning you’ve done since then! that is totally awesome Opal!!!
