Actual knitting content.

Yes, there has been knitting. Actual knitting. Hard to believe, isn’t it? But it’s true! I managed to finish a cardigan during my stay here in Altoona.

I give you the piCardigan (Ravelry link).

Pattern: piCardigan

Yarn: Tatamy Tweed in Black

Needles: size US 7 / 4.5mm

Started: May 5, 2008

Finished: May 21, 2008

Modifications: I left out the shaping for the sleeves. They would’ve been too baggy if I had done any increases.

I love top-down raglan sweaters. I love the way the increases look. I love Tatamy Tweed. It’s so soft and easy to knit with. The tweed had just enough going on that it made knitting with black not so monotonous.

The hem was the most tedious part because you have to sew it in. I’m a knitter, not a seamstress. The sewing nearly did me in. There was quite a bit of sighing and groaning during the process. In the end, I think it was worth it.

There you have it. Actual knitting content. Don’t you all faint on me!

Have a happy Thursday everyone! Friday is right around the corner which means the weekend will be upon us soon!

    LOVELY

Oh aren’t you cute as a button! That’s a lovely sweater too and I think I”d do the same on the sleeves. The sleeve length is excellent, but the flare? Not so much :) And, I have to admit that while I generally don’t like tweed much, that yarn looks wonderful!

I promise I wasn’t doubting your knitting prowess – you’re on vacation for heaven’s sake – you’re not supposed to get anything done!

Great sweater! I love the tweedy and raglan sleeves ROCK! And no one would know that you suffered through the hem . . . which is how it is supposed to be!

    Great job.

  5. Meredith Says:

Great sweater…and you look great in it! Glad to know you actually managed a little knitting!

This sweater looks quite cute! I think I may have to consider raglan construction. And yup, that little turned picot hem – definitely worth it!

  7. Kim Says:

I like that picot hem. I’m a big fan of tweedy yarns, too. Something about the flecks of color does break the monotony.

    What’s next in the pipeline?

  8. Cookie Says:

    I know that yarn!

Very nice cardi, Opal. Worth the sewing, I think.

My hair stood straight on end at the word “sewing.” I (and my hair) salute you and you gorgeous sweater!

  10. Hattie Says:

Awesome! I definitely love the picot edge. I hate sewing those up too though. I’d rather knit them together but that’s not always possible…

  11. Jeanne Says:

Great cardi! I hate to sew too, and do everything in my power to avoid it.

  12. desiknitter Says:

Very nice! The picot is very pretty indeed.

  13. Roseann Says:

Brava! What a gorgeous sweater! You knitted it up so quickly and you did a wonderful job on the hem, well worth the effort. I hope you wear it during your next MSWF, weather permitting. The morinings in early May are cool here and I know you would get lots of compliments on your Pi Cardigan.

  14. Dave Says:

Very nice — tweed is such a classic look, and it goes beautifully with that pattern!

  15. Jeanne Says:

How cute! It looks great on you – and love the hem. I really need to get some of that yarn – its great!

    Where are my smelling salts????

Lovely sweater. I might be tempted to knit it myself, if I were a sweater person.

  17. Barb Says:

Hold the phone! A sweater? Nice. The MJ cook keeps asking about you.

  18. Kelley Says:

Wow! I love the black tweed. And the large picot neckband! Looks great!

Ah, it’s good to know that you’re not *just* out to strike yarn envy in all of our hearts :o)

  20. Carin Says:

Are those PINK flecks in the yarn?
I really like the design and it looks great on you!
I sew, but for some reason I don’t like it when I have to sew my knitting.
    Go figure.

Wow, you look great, and so does the cardigan. I will finish a bolero for my daughter today, and after I will start something for myself again.

I so understand about how you feel about the sewing…that’s the part I hate (and try to avoid)when a pattern calls for it. Your sweater is beautiful. The hem looks great….I love raglan sweaters :)

Great sweater! The hem looks lovely. Thanks for sending me your blog address. I am slowly catching up on your posts. Sounds like you are having a great trip!

  27. textillian Says:

The cardi looks great on you! Congrats on finishing it (and especially for sewing all of that hem! I thought the reason for top down was to avoid sewing?)
