MDSW Booty Part 3 or Finally! The Yarn!

It’s about time I got to this post, isn’t it? My excuses? Well, I’ve been busy helping a friend move her yarn store to a different location. I’ve been laid low with a 24 hour flu bug. (This post was planned for Friday, but I was completely incapacitated that day.) Not to mention, that Fibromyalgia flare just won’t seem to go away. Enough with that though!

I give you the booty.

That’s the sum total of my yarn purchases. Were you expecting more? I certainly was! I think I’ve become such a mad spinner that my focus was on all the fiber I could spin and on all the goodies I could spin with.

First up is some superwash merino sock yarn from Wullenstudio Designer Yarns in Green Tambourine. Such a lovely yarn. I’m not sure what it will become, but it’s certainly very soft and squishy.

Next up, is some Sea Sock yarn from Dragonfly Fiber Designs. This one has some sea cell in it and it feels very silky. I think I’m going to use this yarn for the Rivendell design. The color isn’t really accurate as I’d like in the photograph as I’d like. Just think ocean.

The next yarn is more sock yarn. (Do ya think I have a thing for sock yarn? Do ya think?) This gem is from Brooklyn Handspun and I’ve had a really hard time finding this stuff online. There weren’t many colors left, but I’m happy with what I found, which is Wheat Field. I think it will be a good match to my wardrobe.

Oh look! Something that isn’t sock yarn! Yes, I actually found some laceweight that called my name in a lovely semi-solid purple from Sweet Sheep. The color is called Muddle Through, which I find totally appropriate for the way I approach knitting.

Finally, the last item wasn’t exactly a straight up yarn purchase. It’s a kit from Just Our Yarn for the shawl Jack In The Pulpit. I fell in love with the model. At first I resisted the siren call, but in the end resistance was futile and I caved. I think it was the beads that did me in.

I think I did pretty good in the yarn department at MDSW, but I did mention something about a yarn store right? Well, my willpower only stretches so far and there might have been a bit of damage done there. I think I’ll save that for another day though. Too much in one day will have me in a state of shock over the mass quantities of stuff I’m going to have to transport home.

For those who don’t know, I’m flying home on June 3rd, so I wouldn’t expect regular posts until then. I do have a lot to post about though. It’s been a whirlwind of activity here. There just hasn’t been enough downtime for me to write about it!

I shall leave you with a gorgeous shot of some snow on trees in Sinking Valley that I took last week Monday. I couldn’t get over the fact that there was snow! Actual snow! In May! Whee! :-D

I hope you’re weekend is going well! Have a great week!

I am disappointed. I was expecting a lot more yarn. Then again, we haven’t seen what’s following you home from the yarn store yet. ;^)

    Snow?! That’s just wrong.

Have a good safe trip home, sweetie. ♥

  2. fleegle Says:

That light blue lace yarn is scrumptious…and so is the rest of your bootie. But I could have out-stashed you if I could have gone. Ah well, fly safe! Wave when you fly over Atlanta!

  3. Robin in VA Says:

    Yummy…yarny….goodness!! What a great haul!

  4. Barb Says:

That’s it???? Heh. I know you just ran out of funds after your spindle indulgence. See you soon.

  5. Hattie Says:

Hehe, to anyone else, snow in May would be a bad thing lol.

  6. Kim Says:

Snow. In May. As much as I heartily approve of snow, that IS just wrong. Pretty, though. Nice yarn. I am seriously thinking of knitting the Nutkins next.

Okay, Aloha Knitters report time: our group has dwindled to a tiny handful, since the Windward group has defected. I’m thinking of bringing Cricket more often just to get our numbers up, have him sit in a chair and give him a skein of acrylic and some big needles and let him knit a scarf or something. He’s not much of a conversationalist, but our tables are pretty empty, these days. This week, it was Angela, a lady from Kapolei, and me. I think people are vogged out and not coming out, and Arianna’s recouperating from surgery, so it’s been blessedly quiet, it’s true, but the MJ employees seem disappointed in our tiny showing.

Just be glad you didn’t get that flu and Fibroflare here with the stinkin’ vog. It has been truly horrendous here.

Ahhh! The green sock yarn. I love green. That is some nice yarn booty. Congrats on the acquisitions. I hope you feel better. I am sure that moving yarn was a big treat despite the suffering.

  8. Agnes Says:

It is always so happy to read other knitters’ hauls from fiber festivals! All those colours bursting thorough the screen … such lovely sight! The best part? I don’t have to feel guilty buying but not knitting fast enough … (evil smile)!
The snow is just too incompatible with the 90F+ temperature here … can’t imagine even how it feels!

  9. Jeanne Says:

Beautiful yarn – the shawl kit is gorgeous! Enjoy the rest of your trip – and how great that you got some snow too!

  10. Dee Says:

How are you ever going to get that all back to Hawai’i. You’re going to need another suitcase for sure.

The snow picture is beautiful. Snow in May!!! I’d love to have been there.

  11. Carin Says:

I am (as anyone else from Alaska would be), amused that you published a post that includes snow in May.
Remember its not the size of the stash that’s important, but… oh, I lost my train of thought.
I really like your acquisitions, I hope to see more of the shawl.

  12. hakucho Says:

I can’t wait to see all the beautiful things you’ll be knitting with your beautiful new yarn :)

  13. Jeanne Says:

For the record, snow in May is not a good thing. :-) Such pretty yarn!

  14. Shell Says:

I am not surprised at how little her yarn purchases were, remember she was a newbie there, and spent most of the time just looking about in awe.
(at least she didn’t have someone telling her to shut her mouth)
As for snow in May, it was the Onion snow, and hopefully the last of this season.

  15. Lisa Says:

I think you made some great choices there! Gorgeous stuff.

I’m glad you got a little snow, even though I hate the stuff. ;)

  16. Knitnana Says:

No wonder you’re having a fibro flare! SNOW? You’re a sunshine gal!!! Those muscles are in revolt!
    :)
And…don’t you just love Just Our Yarn? I’ve got to hold onto some cash for Sedalia – at least I hope they’ll be there….

And Sweet Sheep Muddle Thru is GORGEOUS! What lace will you make?

    Do rest…take care, okay?
    (((hugs)))

  17. carrie Says:

Beads will do that to a person. :)

Hey, I’m thinking it’s entirely preferable to have snow in May than to have 100 degrees for three days in a row in May (immediately following the period I like to call “no spring”)…

  18. Roseann Says:

I hope you are feeling better, the flu and your flare up plus you are far from home, that is too much! You find the nicest yarn. I bought some Sweet Sheep sock yarn but had not stumbled upon the lace yarn. I learn so much from reading your blog and l look forward to hearing all about your other purchases.

Rule #1: Don’t get sick on vacation!

Hmmmm! I thought there was more yarn than that. Maybe I am thinking of my haul….

  20. limedragon :-: Harriet Says:

Pretty yarn! Great stuff that’ll keep you occupied. And how funny is it that you got to see snow? : )

  21. .: tani :. Says:

what a great haul! have fun on the rest of your trip and fly safely!

  22. Robbyn Says:

Oooooh – lovely yarns! I think the Brooklyn Handspun and the Dragonfly especially tickle my fancy and look forward to seeing what you do with them.

Sorry to hear about the flare-ups. Just what you wanted to happen on your vacation, right? At least your 24 hour bug is in the past. I do hope the flare-up flares OFF very soon :)

  23. debbie Says:

i’m partial to your green tambourine and wheat field, both lovely earthy colors – seems like you’ve got yourself a choice yarn stash there! as for the transport for your trip home – lucky for you, yarn and wool are light and squishy! hope your health improves with each passing day – seems like you’ll need a rest from your vacation….

  24. Carrie K Says:

Muddle Through is a great name for yarn. Pretty yarns! Have fun on the rest of your vacation – no more 24 hour illnesses or fibromyalgia flare ups.

  25. tiennie Says:

    Oohh.. Great booty! :)

  26. Janelle Says:

Very restrained but all are beautiful! And I’m with you on the snow, it’s been 80F here for multiple stretches already…

  27. Karen B. Says:

Beautiful yarn choices, Opal. I think it’s a good idea to keep your purchases to the unique, off-line only stuff.

And how cool is it (no pun intended) that you got to see snow?! Ten years away from the mainland and your trip includes snow in May. Just for you.

  28. nova Says:

I am so glad you had a good time. And really, how can a person who purchases 5 spindles NOT have a good time?

  29. Mokihana Says:

Man, if I still lived back home I’d come to the meetings!

Great yarns!… and you got to see snow!

  30. becky Says:

Lovely yarn. I think you did very well in the Yarn department.

Snow in May? I blame global warming!

I’ve gotten way behind on my blog reading, so sorry this is late! I’m actually skipping some blogs, but I could never skip yours!

  31. *karen Says:

Oh my god, it was snowing there? It’s like a heat wave over here! I don’t want to look too closely at that yarn. I don’t need the envy :o/

  32. Jane Says:

Beautiful, beautiful! I swoon with envy even though you deseve every bit of yarn you got! I know you are going to be knitting day and night with all that beautiful yarn calling your name :-)
