With all the excitement being here on the mainland, I had completely forgotten about a pair of socks I finished while on the way to Pennsylvania. (Please excuse me if I’m incoherent, I’m recuperating from a Fibromylagia flare and the brain fog won’t go away.)

Pattern: Nutkins
Yarn: Dream In Color Smooshy in Cocoa Kiss
Needles: Size US 1 / 2.25mm
Started: April 5, 2008
Finished: May 1, 2008
Modifications: None

I love this pattern. It was perfect to take with me on the looong plane ride over here. The only time I needed to refer to it was when I did the heel. I’m not normally a short-row heel gal, but I decided to try something different so I followed the pattern to the letter.
They’re not as comfortable for me as a heel flap, but they’ll do. I do like the yarn over method more then the other types of techniques. Yet, I also think they look horrendously sloppy. That’s likely due to the fact that I’ve so little practice with this way of knitting heels. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. ;-)

I really love this yarn. It’s not called Smooshy for nuthin’. It really is soft and well.. smooshy! It also has amazing stitch definition. I can’t wait to work with more of it.

I did cast on for another pair of socks once I finished these, but they didn’t work out. I have another pattern in mind for the yarn I brought with me, but I have yet to start them. I just haven’t had as much time to knit while I’ve been here as someone has had me busier then a bee.
For all of you who are mothers, happy mother’s day! For everyone who’s not, happy Sunday! I’ll be back with a post of the yarn that I came back with from MDSW.

No idea who that person keeping you busy could be, not me of course LOL.
Just remember – this past week was mild as I was recovering from Md. Next week will be better.

They are pretty socks, Opal.
I think the secret to short row heels is keeping things tight when you’re picking up wraps or YOs or whatever you’re picking up.
I hope you’re feeling better today.

hope your feeling better! love the socks, too. ya know, i really never stress about the holes. i do a double wrap-that seems to take care of them. plus, at the edges, i pick up a couple of stitches to compensate. sometimes it’s a bit fussy, but it is my favorite heel. :)

Ooohh, that is such a cute earthy-looking sock! Are you getting a chance to wear all your handmade socks on the mainland? You should make a trip back there in the winter, to do them justice!
We are managing well here on the island. It’s been cool and rainy here in Nuuanu, and pretty nice; trade winds everywhere else. Surf is low – ho! I sound like Michelle giving the surf report, but you know how mainlanders think everyone surfs here…
I am off to the Pet Expo and Costco, then maybe some laundry and housecleaning so we can survive the week with minimal chaos.
I hope you’re feeling better. Your entry didn’t sound incoherent at all. You have yet to show us the yarn haul from MS&W… perhaps you’re holding out on us b/c there’s so much of it?

Hmmm, what a great colour, kind of violet-silvery brown — yummy!

Nice socks! Hope you feel better soon:)

Lovely, soft colors just set off that pretty pattern. I just made a pair with Smooshy, but I thought the yarn was quite harsh to knit, even though it felt nice in the skein. It didn’t soften in the wash, either. Hmm.

Very pretty – love the color! I didn’t do the short row heels on that pattern – chickened out and did a heel flap. Hope you feel better soon!

Your socks are beautiful. I have some of the Smooshy in my stash! Now I can’t wait to give it a try.

Your nutkins look fabulous…beautiful yarn : It does take a little bit to get used to – this type of short row heel. I agree, you do have to make sure everything is tight. It is my favorite heel and toe so far, not that I’m that experience yet…I still have lots to learn :)

Fibro fog, bad! Be sure to give yourself a break from all the work.
I, too, have my short row heel issues so I can commiserate (and then some!). I also have Smooshy in the Cocoa Kiss colour. Thank you for showing me what the yarn can become! Loksins, maybe?

Love the socks, Opal! I feel the same way you do about short-row heels, but I use them sometimes. Hope the fibro has let go of your brain by the time you read this.
big huggggggggsssssssss

You are such a bad influence, you enabler you! Now I have another pattern added to my queue.
I hope you are feeling better soon, too!

They’re beautiful! I think I may have to put that pattern in my queue.

I love that pattern! I’m going to have to put some of those on my list! It works perfectly with the yarn, too — so soft.
I hope you’re feeling better.

Cute!

That’s a beautiful sock, and I hope you start feeling better soon!

Beautiful. I did my regular short row heels on that sock – the wraps were a little tooo holey for me per the pattern. Hope you’re feeling better.

They’re gorgeous!
(((hugs)))

lovely pair of socks! i’m a heel flap gal myself, though i’ve done a couple short row heels – but they come out loosy goosy on one side….take care….
May 12th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Those are pretty socks! Smooshy sounds so comfy. No problems with knitting on the plane?

I hope you are feeling better today. Your Nutkins make me think of hazelnut for some reason. I can see all the pretty stitchery and the color is gorgeous. The Sock Wars sock has a flap heel, I appreciate the upclose picture of your short-row heel, that is my favorite heel.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
I hope you’re feeling much better. Those are wonderful socks!

The socks look great. I love the cabled look (though it looks like this is done through yo’s and decreases.)
Hope you are feeling better.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Very nice socks! I sure hope you’re feeling better.

I really do like that pattern and your yarn does it perfect justice. Most of the sock yarns I have at the moment are ulti-colored (and *brightly* multi-colored at that) so I need to find a solid, or semi-solid for this.
After seeing yours, I’m even more impatient :)

Oh, those socks are lovely! I need to make a pair. Fortunately I have lately acquired some sock yarn.
