It’s A Wrap.

Posted under socks

After a week long battle with the flu, I’m back with a completed project.

Pattern: Gothic Spire Socks by Cookie A

Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Solids in Burgundy

Needles: US 1 1/2 or 2.5mm (2 circs)

Started: June 6, 2007

Finished: April 12, 2008

No modifications.

I am so happy to have these socks finished! It’s not that I don’t like the way the pattern looks. I think it’s pretty nifty. It’s just those wrapped stitches. They irritated the crap out of me. It’s not that they were difficult or anything like that. They were just a nuisance.

For all my whining, in the end I think they were worth it. They give a lovely texture to the pattern and they’re definitely unusual.

I did like the yarn. Yes. The yarn I liked. It’s springy and tightly twisted, which gave the pattern some great stitch definition. It’s also shiny and soft. The color has a lot more depth then what the pictures are able to reflect. Reds are so hard to photograph. So really, what’s not to like?

It really does feel good to have these socks all wrapped up (ha!) and I’m feeling more like myself every day. I really got knocked for a loop last week. I was so sick that I didn’t touch my wheel all week. That’s a definite sign of illness. Though I really shouldn’t complain too much, at least I was able to knit.

Thank goodness I’m now able to sit at my wheel again and sleep through the night. Now I just need to catch up with email and blog reading. A week behind? Ouch.

WOW!!! Your Gothic Spire Socks are gorgeous! I did not notice the wrap sts till you pointed them out to me. They work nicely with the pattern, as does the color, just another notch in your knitting belt. You might want to bring them along to MSWF, as people will notice what you wear on your feet and compliment you as you shop.

The socks are BEAUTIFUL! What a great color. Sorry to hear you were feeling unwell…don’t do too much now, and suffer a relapse.

    Glad you are feeling better.

The socks are beautiful and such a nice color. How do they stretch? I would think they wouldn’t have much give.

Those are so yummy looking! Wrapped stitches? That would annoy me, too! Glad you’re getting better. I had the flu in January; not fun.

I am so glad you’re feeling better, Opal. I bet those socks had a little something to do with that. They are so lovely. Wonderful matching of pattern, yarn and color. Well done!

Hooray! Those look great and it must be SO satisfying to have them done after 10 months!!!

Oh, they’re gorgeous. I can understand the wrapping throwing off the knitting rhythm, but they do look cool. I have exactly one sock done in the CTH — I loved working with it. Guess I should make it a friend, eh. ? LOL Glad you’re feeling better!

  15. fleegle on 21 Apr 2008 at 12:33 pm #

Deliciously yummy, as always! And I am glad you are feeling better. I also love CTH!

Wow. Perseverance paid off big time, they’re fantastic. The color is perfect for the pattern too - just rich and luxurious.

Flu, bad. Socks? beautiful! The colour alone is enough to lift ones spirit. I’m glad you took the socks to the finish line, Opal.

  23. Lisa on 22 Apr 2008 at 1:27 am #

Yay you finished them! They’re gorgeous! (Don’t hit me, but when I looked at these I was on the laptop, which shows colors all wrong, and they looked totally HOT PINK. I thought the flu had affected your brain lol.)

  24. knitnana on 22 Apr 2008 at 2:15 am #

Just beautiful! So glad you’re feeling better…
    (((hugs)))

Pretty! I love Cookie designs. I think the color is very well suited for this pattern. Congrats on another lovely pair of socks. You are starting to give me pangs of guilt for not knitting socks in a long, long time. ;)

I am loving that bright, happy pink. It reminds me of bougainvillea in bloom

Beautiful socks! I hope you are feeling better!

  31. Robbyn on 23 Apr 2008 at 2:41 am #

Sorry to hear you were feeling yucky and glad you’re feeling better now :)

Those are the most interestingly textured socks I’ve ever seen. I wonder how that stitch pattern would look on something wide and flat - like a stole, or something like that…

Really glad you’re feeling a bit more chipper!

  32. Jane on 23 Apr 2008 at 3:16 am #

I’m so sorry you got the flu! No wonder you had to lay low for awhile. Still, you came back with a bang! Beautiful sock knitting as usual. I have total sock envy :-)

great socks! don’t you just love cookie a patterns?

  34. Barb on 23 Apr 2008 at 4:16 pm #

Congrats on finishing the socks. They are wonderful.

  35. nova on 24 Apr 2008 at 5:05 am #

I am glad you finished them, Opal. They look great. Not being a fan of too wrapping stitches, I will have to live vicariously through your FO post, as I am unlikely to ever knit this pattern.
