Resistance Is Futile

This Saturday the Final Four played for the championship game. It was a historical event with all four No. 1 seeds playing against each other. The icing on the cake was that both of the teams I was rooting for won.

I could go on and on about the two games, but I realize that this is not a basketball blog. This is a knitting blog. So I won’t bore you to tears with my game analysis. ;-)

Despite the excitement, I did manage to get some knitting done during commercial breaks. And lo, a pair of socks were finished.

These socks are more a fraternal pair then an identical pair and I don’t mind at all. In fact, I think it adds a certain charm to it.

Pattern: Socks Of Kindness, A recipe

Yarn: My own handspun (Ravelry link)

Needles: Size US 1 / 2.25 mm

Started: March 26, 2008

Finished: April 5, 2008

Modifications: I used a French heel, aka round heel, via Heels By Number instead of the short row heel suggested in the pattern. I’m just a heel flap kinda gal. I’m very happy with the decision as it fits great.

I did stick with the spiral toe suggested in the pattern. I’m not sure if I’ll use it again, but I like how it turned out.

The second sock surprised me with a block of pink right near the ankle. You all know how I feel about pink, but I think my assimilation is nearing completion because I actually think it’s kind of pretty.

(No, Cookie. I still do not see pink lace in my future, but at this point anything is possible. Thinking back, I actually did make a shawl in pink. It was. Not. Fun. ‘Nuff said.)

With all the handspun goodness that I’ve been indulging in, I feel like my commercial sock yarn stash has been neglected. So I’ve cast on for socks in some of this. Pattern to be announced at a later date, because I like to keep you guessing.

Happy Monday everyone! GO MEMPHIS!

If you want to keep us guessing, you need to not put the project in Ravelry. 8-) You need a really nice job with the handspun socks. I don’t think the pink looks bad in there with all those other colors.

    Very nice socks, Opal.

There’s nothing with a little pink lace, ya know. Maybe a pink lace sock? ;^)

  3. Shell Says:

Oh really? I love the pink shawl! Those socks turned out great – and I love the way the yarn came out. Way to go!

  4. Dave Says:

Purty. Even with the pink, still purty. :-)

    Love that Cocoa Kiss, though.

  5. Jeanne Says:

Very pretty! Love the pink…I think you should try a pink shawl again.. :-)

Oooo, those are pretty pretty! And I see a hint of pink in your Smooshy, too. You will be assimilated :)

I love the spiral toe! I didn’t think I would when I first tried it, but it does fit my pointy toes….

It’s amazing to see the difference between the unspun, skeined and knitted yarn!

I can’t begin to guess what the new commercial sock yarn is, but it’s yummy!

I think the socks are great. I did a short row heel recently for a pair of socks and I have to say, I too am a heel flap kind of girl.

ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK KAY YOUUUUUUUUUUU! ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK KAY YOUUUUUUUUU! (Of course, I’m writing this after the championship game, and I am very, very happy! Even though I’m not an alum, I’ve been a fan of KU hoops since I was a little girl.)

Mmmmmmm, handspun goodness. How lovely and rewarding that knit must be.

Did you have to bring up the final four!!!! DH is a Chapel Hill grad. Must I say more????

My BFF lives in Wichita, Congrats KU!!! :)

    Cute socks!

Oh those socks are lovely! And (just my opinion) the yarn is only enhanced by the “fraternal” aspect of things. That truly is gorgeous yarn you made.

I am definitely a heel-flap girl myself but I haven’t tried the French round heel – usually it’s a Dutch heel. i’ll have to give that one a try. I have used a star toe a couple of times and don’t think it’s one I’m likely to use again. I’m much fonder of the wedge toe though i should trysome other techniques as well. Eventually :)

I’m looking forward to seeing the new sock!

As I looked at your completed, well-fitting socks, I thought the yarn was Trekking and then I remembered it was your handspun. WOW!!! They are gorgeous! Thank you for the upclose picture of your French heel and your spiral toe. I can’t wait to see your new sock project.

    Awesome handspun, handknit socks!

Very nice yarn to make some very nice *******. Won’t spoil it for others, but I also spotted your project on Ravelry. ;)

Okay…OPAL. I did not know you were a Trekkie! I have been assimilated, too…ever since Captain Kirk was flying around the universe violating the Prime Directive with all the lady aliens. I’ve watched all the spin-offs, but I do love those Borg….aren’t they great? I want to BE Seven of Nine. (Or maybe “Q”.) Oh, and your socks are lovely. Wow…you’re quick! Borg-like perfection, I’d say. Comply.

Beautiful socks :) I’ll have to keep this pattern in mind for later….need more time to knit :)

    The color is great! Beautiful.

    Those are fantastic!!

  24. Genuine Says:

I love round heels, for absolutely no paticular reason. Given that my heel is rather narrow, you’d think that I’d aim for a different style, but, I don’t!
