Inch By Inch

With my fingers in so many pies, there hasn’t been any eye popping progress with any of my knitting projects. So instead of concentrating my efforts by how much I get done, I’ve been luxuriating on how much pleasure I get from each of them.

The Springtime Shawl (Ravelry Link) continues to grow, while giving my brain a gentle tickle. The lace pattern isn’t exactly complex, but it still requires a certain amount of concentration.

The Ocean Feathers Stole provides me with the most tactile pleasure as the Sea Silk is the most decadent yarn I have ever used to date. Instead of giving in to my inclination and knitting it all up in one go, I’ve decided to only allow myself a certain amount of time each day to work on it. In this way, I can prolong the experience and savor each and every precious yard of this glorious yarn. Despite my careful plans, the stole seems to be growing at an alarming rate and I find myself nearing the end of the first ball of yarn.

Another yarn that I love is the Fearless Fiber sock yarn and I’ve been carefully hoarding it for just the right pattern. Now that I’ve found it, I would very much like to extend my time with it. But I suddenly find myself past the heel of the second sock.

I have a feeling these will be finished sooner then I’d like. My only consolation for the upcoming post-project blues is the lovely handspun I have lined up to knit.

Inch by inch, I’m getting things done but I’m taking my sweet time doing it and I wouldn’t have it any other way. :-)

    Beautiful socks!

Do you wear all your shawls and stoles? I made one during the winter with hopes of using it this summer. Restaurants here like to aircondition their places so it feels like Antartica while outside it’s in the 90′s. So, the shawl has just been hanging in my closet during “sweater weather” in hopes that I will really use it this summer.

Yum–Seasilk. I am starting one in Seasilk myself while I wait for Lisa’s Petal in Ginger Peach–double-yum :)

Cute socks. Springtime will be gorgeous!

Hey, why not knit a parka to go with your hats and gloves?

I feel the same way about twinings – some knits definitely need to be savored!

I suddenly realize I have a $50 Elann credit! So I put them into use and got myself the 2 lace knitting books! Woo-hoo!
The sock is cute! And I also got myself 2 skeins of Shibui sock yarns … you’re right! They are lovely! I need to knit faster so that I can get the other colours! :)

What a lovely variety of projects you have going. I have found that knitting only one or two projects gets boring very quickly for me. Two beautiful shawls and pretty socks, they are all very inspiring.

Lovely things! I wish I could get to all my work. No energy. I am truly inspired!

I used sea silk last summer. It really is very decadent! I can’t believe the self control you exhibit in portioning your knitting time with it. But I guess it is a little easier when you have such lovely projects to alternate!

I’m a fellow SeaSilk fan. Not only is it nice to work with – it blocks beautifully and keeps on looking gorgeous. Both of my SeaSilk scarves get used A LOT.

  12. Kelley Says:

Wow! I like your strategy of dragging out the knits you love. Maybe that’s why I always have so many projects going at once!

  13. Lisa Says:

They are all such lovely projects. What a good idea to savor them.

  14. Shelly Says:

You have a great plan to savor the time, and yet get progress on each! I love seeing the progress, but how is the spinning going? Are you spending special time daily with it too? Tell Tell….

Everything looks great! Bood for you Opal! Savour the moment! That’s the way to go. Can’t wait to see the sea silk stole finished! It will be gorgeous!

Enjoying the trip is what it’s all about. I mean, if you just wanted a shawl or two, or a pair of socks, you could buy those. Making them, *crafting* them out of your own talent, time, curiosity and joy is a whole n’other thing.

I can’t wait to see what you decide to do with your handspun :)

Oh my dear, I know what you mean about savoring that Sea Silk! I savored my Sea Wool…all the way through my Clapotis. Till I finished it and had quite too much left over. Still thinking what I might do with it – maybe mitts?

But I can only imagine the Sea Silk…and your’s is gorgeous!
    (((hugs)))

I am knitting some socks in sea-silk right now…they are practically knitting themselves! I am glad you are feeling better, O.

I’ve been wanting to try some seasilk. Maybe next time I allow myself to buy yarn, I’ll get some.

Ooh, “Springtime” in Kinzel’s book. Good choice! I’ve had that book for ages, and started to make something out of it many years ago (I think “Crystal” design), but never got very far. Can’t wait to see how it takes shape.
