I’m definitely in the midst of a heavy-breathing love affair with cabled hats. I’ve been swept off my feet in a whirlwind of luscious yarn and needles. The product of this lovefest? Well, here’s two of my proud love children. ;-)

Pattern: (Left) Utopia Cable Hat
Yarn: Galway Colornep, Color No. 559
Needles: Size 8US/5.0mm
Started: February 16, 2008
Finished: February 17, 2008

This baby was really fun to knit! The yarn is soft and lofty. The little bursts of color gives the cables a varied texture. The scattered rainbow neps has just enough oomph to keep it from being boring, while the grey helps keep it a classic.

Pattern: Caramel Cable Hat
Yarn: Galway Highland Heather, Color No. 750
Needles: Size 6US/4.0mm
Started: February 16, 2008
Finished: February 19, 2008

This second one was a little slower to knit up then the other since I used a size 6 needles versus a size 8 needle. I still had a great time with it.
I did run into a slight snag with the size. The pattern calls for 4 repeats of the lower cable, but that ran a little too big to my eyes. So I just omitted one pattern repeat. Other then that, this was an easy breezy knit.
For those of you who are wondering, I’m using a cable needle. It’s just my preferred method and I clip along at a steadier pace with one then without one. (Actually, I use a short DPN rather then a cable needle because I can never remember to buy cable needles. Then when I do, I tend to lose them.)
In the midst of this mad fling with hats and needles, I might have neglected to give Quincy his proper due. I think he looks a little miffed. I hope he doesn’t eat me in my sleep. o.o

That’s the same face Ace has everytime Milo visits!!

Great hats, looks like an easy and fast knitting pattern. I have 3 cats, all 3 of them are girls, cats are good company.

Great picture of Quincy! Your hat and their photos look beautiful, all those pretty cables. The heathered one is especially nice. I enjoy looking at your Ravelry queue, you have so many gorgeous projects lined up. Also, if you want to take a class at MSWF, I realized you might prefer my Gem as you already have a Suzie.

How are you knitting these so quickly?! They are lovely hats. PS: I am trying to talk the company I freelance for into sending me to their DC office the week before or after MSWF so I can go.

Very cute hats (this post and last) – but it is so funny that you are making these in Hawaii! Where is the lace? The kitties are too cute!
February 20th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
I like the blue one. ;) Stop showing me hats, I don’t need new things to knit!!!
February 20th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Wow Love the hats – I can understand why they are so much fun. Umm Quincy might just smack you if you don’t give him his due… go love on him!
February 20th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Nah … Quincy wouldn’t do that. However, I do believe he knows where the cable needles are because I think it’s HIM taking them. He knows this will drive you slowly crazy.
Great hats!

Wow! Great hats! Nice cables! I’m in love with cables at the moment too And I’ve also been using a cable needle – a real one. I found it under the fridge! Wonder which of my felines put it there! Oh, poor Quincy. Is he miffed? That’s Oscar’s usual face! I always thought he was a bit cross-eyed! Better give Quincy some lovin’ or you might get your eyes scratched out!

Snug and soft! What are you going to do with all these hats?
February 21st, 2008 at 4:02 am
Beautiful hats – wonderful, cabley goodness! The DPN for a cable needle is a good idea – easier to deal with I imagine and certainly easier to find when you need one.
Quince just looks a little sleepy to me :) On the other had if he *is* plotting death, destruction and doom – do you really want to know? Heheh…

Well you are turning into the hat machine! I need to knit more of those almost instant gratification items. They look so fun! I love all the cables you have been doing. I don’t use a cable needle though most of the time. I’m too lazy. :-P

That hats are lovely! And OMG, Quincy sure looks like he’s contemplating…

Lovely hats, but the cat is your winner.

Your cable hats are superb! Hat attack would have been right up your alley :)
February 21st, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Quincy does look miffed. It would probably be a good idea to mollify him before he gets any ideas!
The hats look great, too. I always use a dpn to make cables as well. I do have a few cable needles, but the dpns are usually handier.

Cool hats! I like to use a cable needle (or rather, DPN) too… it’s faster, and the stitches don’t seem to stretch out as much.
Hi Quincy!! : )

These hats (and the plain beanies you finished earlier) look great. Caramel has been on my to-knit list for a while. I love cables… And I do need a hat…

You are on a fabulous hat roll! Love these and the ones from your last post.
February 22nd, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Those do look like loads of fun to knit! No wonder you want to knit more of them. The cabels give great texture.
February 23rd, 2008 at 8:49 am
Love all the hats! That blue one is my favorite. I’ll have to look for some of that gorgeous yarn.
February 23rd, 2008 at 12:02 pm

February 24th, 2008 at 5:23 am
The tweed is gorgeous — that’s a great shot.
February 24th, 2008 at 11:06 am
Wonderful Hats! Have you thought of moving to a colder climate – you are such a great knitter of warm woolies!!!
February 25th, 2008 at 8:53 am
I did one of those utopia hats for my nephew for Xmas and had to add a whole pattern repeat to the depth, it was too small even for my little woman sized head.
Did you have the same problem?
February 25th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Wow! One day! That was lightning fast!
March 16th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
oh i do love those hats! and the yarn complements so well with the pattern – nice and cozy!
