Did you ever have a gorgeous yarn that needed just the right pattern to do it justice? Were you ever stumped as to pattern choice? Yeah? Me too.
The yarn in question is from Fearless Fibers in the colorway Glorious Green. Isn’t it beautiful?

I first tried the Rococo pattern, but it just didn’t pop.

Then I tried the Waterfall pattern. Again, no go.

I also tried a beautiful pattern called Tendril Embrace, but that didn’t work out either.
I began to feel like either this yarn was cursed or I was. But I’m stubborn, so I wasn’t about to give up. So I decided to use a tried and true pattern that always seems to work no matter what the yarn.
At first I thought that it was a total bust. It just looked horrible to my eyes.

Then I tried it on and it transformed before my eyes.

I can definitely live with this. Want another look?

That’s right, Monkey to the rescue. Life is good.
Or at least it would be if my camera would cooperate. Did you all notice the disparity in color between the first few photos and the last three? It’s like a different yarn, but I swear it’s the same exact one.
Totally unacceptable. I have tried every lighting situation and camera option that I can think of. Nothing works!
So my weekend quest is to find a remedy to my photography woes. I’m praying that I’ll be able to exchange it. If not, I’m not sure what I’ll do. I’m just kicking myself for not exchanging it when I had the problem with the macro setting.
C’est la vie. Thanks for listening to me whine. :)
Have a great weekend!

Amazingly Monkeys work so well with so many different yarns!

gorgeousness – i’m having the same problem with my twinkleberries – hmmmmm.

The yarn is beautiful, and it looks like you did find the perfect pattern for it.

How many pairs of Monkeys will that be for you? That color is superb! Good luck with the camera exchange.

That is lovely! I think it is wonderful when a yarn can be matched to a pattern so perfectly. Congrats!

Another beautiful mid-range bluey-green. Love it!
Regarding your camera, not sure what you’ve tried yet but you might want to find a forum or online help group for the particular model you have and put the question to them. Don’t know how much you’ve tinkered with the color balance settings but it may be worth a try. I’ve found that all digital cameras has some kind of bias. Mine tend to blue.

It’s so pretty! Funny how blocking (or wearing) transforms projects.
And the shawl……? ;)

Wow, amazing the difference! I love the monkey pattern, I need to make another pair, this time, for me!!!

It’s lovely yarn and a beautiful pattern fit.
As for your camera woes, my suggestion is to use a piece of white paper and do a manual white balance. I always put a piece of white paper somewhere in my photo (I crop it out later), then I can adjust the white balance with the camera or by using Photoshop. Do not use flash. Hope that helps.

It is beautiful yarn, and great looking socks. Monkeys do seem to work with everything.

Monkey is SUCH a great pattern.
Hope you get some satisfaction with the camera people.

Monkey is definitely my next sock. My friend just finished a red one. I have Monkey envy.
Oh…by the way…about the camera color thing. I have a cheap-o camera, but I can correct color variations in Photoshop Elements, the cheap-o version of Photoshop. I LOVE Photoshop Elements…it makes up for my crummy camera and my lack of photography skills. Well…it sorta does…

Very pretty sock – Monkey is amazing – looks good in so many yarns! I hope you fix your camera woes!

I love the color of the yarn! Monkey is such a great pattern.
Do you use a photo-editing software like Picnik.com or one of the Adobes? I’ve found it makes a huge difference. Picnik is a free online service that doesn’t have as many options, but will still let you play a bit. Good luck!

Heh – Monkeys to the rescue! You’ve had excellent luck with that pattern, haven’t you?
Sorry to hear about your camera – it never really has been what you wanted, has it? On the other hand, you’ve only had it for about a month – I would think (and I’ll keep my fingers crossed) that any reputable place would be more than pleased to make sure you’re a *happy* customer.

I love listening to you whine! In fact, I love everything you do! The monkey was a great choice for that yarn! Hope you can get your camera, either fixed, figured out or exchanged! I used my imagination to ‘see’ the colour of the yarn and I love it!

Wow, that is a big difference in the color. Hope you can figure it out…but I do love your monkeys. I really love that pattern. I’m sure I’ll be knitting that one again. Yay for tried and true :)

Wow – I do hope they let you exchange it – that is unacceptable at all!
You have been busy in my absence – look at all the knitting! I really like the way it looks in the monkey. Dang – Now I want to do another pair now.

Good luck with the camera! I hope you are able to exchange it!

Beautiful! Monkey is such a versatile pattern!

Boo!!!! to annoying cameras. Hope you found one that makes you grin. If not, I hope this one was sufficiently threatened and decided to become a dream camera for you. ;-)
February 17th, 2008 at 5:29 am
At least you found the perfect pattern I think. Go for the Monkeys.
February 17th, 2008 at 9:20 am
I am amazed to see what Monkey can do in a monocromatic color. I admire your pursuit for the right pattern, it does me good to see how other people do it. Very pretty!
February 17th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Sheer perfection! I love it when a plan comes togeather!
February 18th, 2008 at 4:41 am
Oh, how our color palettes are so similar.
As for colors in digital photos, I have found Autolevel in Photoshop to be my friend. It does a pretty good job.

Monkey is my favourite (some might say overused) sock pattern. It just works with so many yarns and I’m always happy with the result.

That “Cookie” is one smart cookie! I love knitting Monkey’s too!
