Pagoda Lace Twist

The gloves weren’t the only things that I got done over the weekend. I also managed to finish the Pagoda Lace Twist Socks.

Pattern: Sedona by Lisa Dykstra

Yarn: Shibuiknits Sock in Pagoda

Needles: size 1US/2.25mm Knitpicks Circulars

Started: 1/15/08

Finished: 1/26/08

No modifications.

From the lace panels to the little twisted stitches, everything about this pattern tickled my senses. It was easy to memorize, which made it a wonderful project to take with me whenever I was out and about. But it also had enough going on to keep me interested so that I didn’t grow bored.

What can I say about this yarn that hasn’t already been said? Not much it seems. :)

I will say that I adore this particular color. The burnt orange isn’t something I would normally pick out for myself, but I fell in love with it when I saw Chris and Nova knitting with it.

Then I knew that it would be just perfect for this pattern. The dark pumpkin brings to mind sunsets in the desert. At least, that’s what my imagination dreams of. How could it not be perfect for a pattern named Sedona?

Another proof positive that this was a well loved project was the fact that I’ve since been hit hard with post-project depression. Nothing really seems to grab my interest like these socks did. I haven’t really felt the urge to cast on for anything new and I keep grappling for inspiration.

I’m sure this will pass, in the meantime I’ve been spending my time flipping through my patterns and going through my stash. Not even the promise of more Shibui has broken through this fugue.

What do you do when you’ve got post-project blues?

They are truly beautiful! You did a great job.

I don’t know that I’ve ever had post-project blues with knitting. Sometimes I’m sorry a cross stitch project is finished though.

i love your pagoda lace twist – the twisted stitches are what sold me – i got the pattern last week! i have a lot of post-project blues, but usually get inspired by people like you!

  3. Jeanne Says:

    Lovely, lovely socks.

Post project I knit baby bibs. That way I always have some around for gifts, and the boredom usually inspires me to something else!

These are so pretty! Beautiful color!

  5. Lisa Says:

I am so glad you liked the pattern. Yours turned out beautifully. I hope you can decide on something else that you will love knitting soon! (I personally think you need a lace project lol!) Hugs!

  6. Dave Says:

Oh, what a great colour! I usually give the PPBs a day or two to run their course, then rummage thru the stash. Something will call out that it’s ready to be next.

  7. chris Says:

Gorgeous. And yes I do get the post project blues. This is what you need to do…………

    Nutkins, nutkins, nutkins!!!

  8. Karen B. Says:

I must have that color of Shibui. Time to buy that pattern, too. You’re a wonderfully sweet enabler, my dear.

  9. Peggy Says:

Absolutely yummy. The color itself will warm your day. Lovely stitch pattern too. I am just going to have to check out that yarn. You have sold me!

  10. Roseann Says:

I love the subtle color changes in your socks, they are gorgeous!!! How about knitting some of your handspun or spinning more of your handspun? A little change of pace might be fun.

  11. Sue J. Says:

Lovely socks, Opal. I, too, love Shibui. When I get the post project blues, I leap right into planning several projects at once. When I have all the planning done, then I start just one project. It really seems to help. especially after completing a lace shawl. Hits me hard then.

  12. Robin in VA Says:

WOW…love that pattern and the color IS so Sedona…looks just like the desert!

  13. Jeanne Says:

Beautiful socks – just gorgeous. The pattern is now in my Ravelry queue and I really need to buy some of that yarn!

  14. Hattie Says:

Very pretty! Not a color I’d pick for myself either, but I do love the color variations in it. So subtle.

I cast on more projects. Heh, or spin something new!

  15. Carol Says:

I get cranky and drive my family nuts. a really gorgeous pair of socks! They look so comfy too!

Seirously Opal! How do you knit so quickly?!

  18. fleegle Says:

Beautiful, Opal! I usually spend time stirring my stash when I get that post-project depression. Eventually, something rises to the top :)

  19. Jenny Says:

    Beautiful!

The socks are gorgeous – I love the color and the pattern is very pretty :)

When I’m stuck for what to do next, I get all my stitch pattern books and sit dow and swatch anything that catches my eye. Sometimes I set up panels of a few things to try together.

There’s no pressure here since you’re not actally trying to make anything. You’re just seeing how the stitch pattern(s) looks :) Eventually you’ll have an idea about where youj want to go next.

Your lace knitting is so exquisite – have you thought about maybe designing a lace piece?

  21. knitnana Says:

    Oh they’re just gorgeous!
hmmm…what do I do with post-pattern blues…start something – anything that has scrumptious to the eyes and fingers yarn in it.
(of course, since I have so many OTN projects going at once, I usually just switch to something till my brain lights on a new pattern – I rarely wait long!)
    (((hugs)))

Fabulous socks! Normally I don’t like orange too, but I can certainly appreciate the semi-solid and the textures.

Maybe something simple/mindless will be a nice break. : )

  23. textillian Says:

The socks are wonderful. I love that shade of orange. It is vibrant without screaming.

I know exactly what you mean by the post-project depression. I have been restless since finishing the sweater and the Opal Handpainted socks. I just sit there thinking, “What am I to do now?”

  24. KnittinDoula Says:

The Sedonas are gorgeous! Now that Ravelry exists, when I get the PPBs, I go browsing…stash, projects, queues…to find something that piques my interest. Or I hit back issues of magazines or flip through books. Sometimes that sense of ennui is just necessary, though. I think it’s like being in neutral instead of drive; it saves fuel and gives you a few moments to decide on a direction.

  25. Carrie K Says:

They’re gorgeous! I love the color. It looks like it’s shaded too. Very nice.

I just got over knitting ennui. It’s a little freaky but it did pass. Browsing Ravelry is a good idea. Fondling yarn at your LYS.

  26. becky Says:

I love those socks. I don’t know about post project blues. Seems I’ve always got something to work on.

When I get the project blues I go read a book or watch a video :-) If you check my blog, you will see you got another well deserved award !

Beautiful sox! Hey, think about dining at Payao next Thursday, if you’re up for it. I won’t be at Aloha this week, but will be next week. I know you like that place.
