Monkey off my back.

At last! The gloves are finished!

Pattern: Annemor #11 from Selbuvotter by Terri Shea

Yarn: Knitpicks Palette in Marine Heather and Cream

Needles: size 2US/2.75mm Knitpicks Harmony Circulars

Started: 12/26/07

Finished: 1/25/08

No modifications.

I cannot tell you how happy I am that these are done. Did you see the fingers? All done. No more fingers. Did you know I hate knitting fingers? I might have mentioned it, but it bears repeating. I hate it. Yup. Hate it.

The thumbs I don’t mind so much. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with thumbs. Not so with the fingers. They seem to go on forever. Even though the thumbs on these gloves seem enormous, there were still only two to do. Much more manageable then eight long fingers.

Did I mention the thumbs are ginormous?

Other then that I did enjoy the knitting. The pattern is beautiful. I loved doing the back of the hand. I loved the cuff. That part of the glove knitted up quickly and painlessly.

In fact, I’m thinking of throwing on a pair of mittens on the needles. Mittens have no fingers. Only thumbs. Like I said, I can handle thumbs. Thumbs are manageable.

Hrm. Mittens.

Those are just flat beautiful!!!!! I know how happy you are to get them done. I’ve been waiting for the knitting fairies to come and finish the “Hell Tomten” for me, but it ain’t happening. I hate it. I’d probably feel better if I conquered that demon, but……………….well, it ain’t happening yet.

Gorgeous!!! I’m glad I have my Selbuvotter now and my set of Harmony dpn or I will be coveting of your beautiful gloves. They are sooo beautiful, I can’t stop admiring them. Thank you for the warning about the huge thumbs, maybe I will go down a needle size.

Opal, they’re gorgeous! The fingers are beautiful and perfect, and I really love the colors you chose.
Looking forward to those mittens :)

    Gorgeous and amazing!

Knitting fingers is just wrong. ;^)

  6. Jeanne Says:

They are beautiful. I especially like the thumbs. I’ve knit one pair of gloves with their 8 long fingers. That was enough for me.

  7. Dee Says:

Yep…mittens are the way to go. Mittens are fun.

  8. nova Says:

Wow. These are pretty incredible, Opal. That is some good fancy knitting work!

The gloves are great! I’ve never knit with palette before, but I love all the colors available. Beautiful work, Opal, can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

  12. Hattie Says:

SO pretty. That’s the pair I want to make first when I finally get the b*lls. Hehe. I’m in the process of finishing my mittens now! Tinking a few rows currently, since I screwed up a row and can’t live with it. But they will be finished tonight!

  13. Paul Says:

    Amazing and pretty gloves

  14. fleegle Says:

Gorgeous, Opal! I still get a laugh at someone in a tropical paradise industriously knitting clothing meant for the Ice Age.

  15. Carrie K Says:

Those are really beautiful, Opal! And so practical for your weather too. Which I’d totally forgotten until fleegle pointed it out. ;)

  16. Carol Says:

Okay, you are utterly inspiring. I have 2 fingers (!!) left to go on a pair of gloves for myself. THEY WILL BE FINISHED! Your knitting is delish.

  17. Agnes Says:

Very beautiful pattern. But why is the thumb really that big? ;)

  18. Debi Says:

The gloves are lovely but just looking at those fingers made my head ache! :)

  19. becky Says:

Those are beautiful! Congrats on getting them finished. I’ve avoided knitting gloves for the very reason you describe. I don’t think I’d want to do the fingers. Mittens are on my to do list, however.

  20. Carin Says:

    Hip, Hip, Hurray!!!
Congratulations, I am very happy for you. You stuck with it and created a beautiful pair of gloves.

  21. Lisa Says:

I am going to invest in that book eventually, but I am going to knit mittens first. Those fingers scare me. Yours are beautiful though!

  22. Barb Says:

Very lovely. Those thumbs are ginormous!!! (wink)

  23. Karen B. Says:

Congratulations on seeing this lovely color combo through to the finish! I can’t imagine doing all that detail work on the fingers either.

  24. Jane Says:

I think those gloves are terrific! I can’t get over all the work involved in making a pair of those and I’m very impressed you were able to do all those tiny fingers. Whew! Great Work :-)

  25. Nannette Says:

OMG – the gloves are absolutely INCREDIBLE! Great work indeed!

  26. Veronica Says:

You are too funny! Glad you finished! :)

  27. Soo Says:

The gloves are amazing. I made a pair of mittens from the same book and while tackling those thumbs came to the conclusion that gloves were NEVER going to happen. I admire your fortitude!

Thanks for the comment on the Forest Path Stole — I know exactly what you mean about the stop/start nature of the pattern. Only half a squillion miles of edging to go.

  28. Kelley Says:

Wow! I love the colors you chose. Congrats!

  29. Robbyn Says:

Be proud girl – you followed through on something you didn’t want to do and you did it beautifully! Those gloves are really amazing!

I have to ask though, what in the world are you going to do with mittens? You know, other than chortle insanely because there are no fingers…

  30. textillian Says:

Two thumbs up! Get it? Wait, which finger are you pointing at me?

The gloves are great. I am contemplating a pair of my own.

  31. Robin in VA Says:

  33. desiknitter Says:

They are beautiful! Love the colours. I also hate knitting fingers. I never weave the ends in.

  34. Peggy Says:

Opal, they were well worth sticking it out. They are lovely.
What do you think? Are mittens the ‘new’ socks????

  35. Meredith Says:

Hi, Opal…love the gloves. I have to admit, for all my complaining, that I just cast on for another pair…plain, but still, they have FINGERS!

    mer

  36. chris Says:

They are gorgeous. I am eyeing a few pairs of mittens out of that book – love me the mittens. And like you said – no fingers!!

WOW! Those gloves are beautiful! I love the thumbs. You are truly a fantastic knitter! I think mittens are more my speed! Still have second-glove syndrome. Perhaps I should reward myself after I finish one finger each day!
