So like I said in my last post, I managed to finish up a pair of socks over the weekend. I’m calling them Sandy Lace Socks.

Pattern: Merino Lace Socks from the book Favorite Socks
Yarn: Shibuiknits Sock in Sand
Needles: size 1US/2.25mm Knitpicks Harmony Wood Circulars
Started: January 2, 2008
Finished: January 13, 2008

I originally got the idea to knit these socks from Grumperina. The picture in the book really isn’t all that flattering, but it actually makes quite a pretty sock. I think it’s a great lesson to look beyond the pictures and more at the pattern potential. There is an errata for the pattern, but other then that it’s very well written.
I’m so glad that I did choose this pattern as it was a joy to knit. From the ribbing to the heels, the details were so well thought out. It was also easily memorized, which made it perfect as a portable project as well as a game day project.

I adore this yarn, but you all know that. The subtle color gradations are pleasing to the eye and complimentary to the pattern. There’s not much more I can say about it that hasn’t already been said.
I really like the needles too. They’re sturdy and smooth. The points are nice and pointy. Perfect for dealing with the multiple decreases in lace patterns. The cable is nice and flexible as well.

Next up on the sock menu is yet even more Shibui. This time I’ll be knitting up Sedona by the wonderful Lisa D. I’ve been wanting to work this pattern up ever since it’s debut!
It’s been on the chilly side here (at least by Hawai’i standards) so I’m going to cuddle up with warm socks on the feet and a furry creature by my side.

(Quincy says “I still can’t believe the Cowboys blew it.”)

Love the subtle shades of your socks! Sorry, I was rooting for the Giants…but I’m pretty sure they’re gonna get walloped by Green Bay. They barely squeaked by.

Ohhhh, what beautiful socks. I love the heel!
The next ones are going to be pretty too.
I think Quincy is going to need some major lovin’ to get over the Cowboys issue.

They are absolutely gorgeous!!!!

Wow! I really like those socks. They’re on my list — maybe as soon as I get some Shibui!

Cute socks, cute kitty man :)

Very pretty socks – this pattern has been on my list for a while…

Gorgeous socks, Opal! Glad to hear you like the Harmony needles. I do, too. A lot. Cuddling with a furry friend is my kind of cuddle.

The colourway is really great! Love semi-solid sock yarns, though the variegated ones are always more eye-catching. I have to remind myself to consider buying semi-solids more. :)

How funny! I was just looking through the book and noticed that pattern. Then I thought that it would be prettier in another yarn/color. Go figure you knit it already. ;)

They’re a perfect match of pattern and yarn – fantastic job!

beautiful socks – you need to show off the back of the leg and heel!

Love the socks!
Tell Quincy not to worry. The Giants didn’t really play all that well. The Cowboys essentially killed themselves with penalties and mistakes. The Giants were able to take advantage of Tony’s inexperience. They won’t have that luxury with Brett Favre. Eli will get slapped down so good, he’ll think he and Peyton were kids again.

I can’t believe you can knit a pait of socks in 11 days! My hands wouldn’t hold out; it takes me more like a month…or two. I think I’m jealous :)
They sure are pretty though – I love the complexity of the design – the front as opposed to the sides of the leg.
Sigh…just what I need – another book to lust after :)

Poor Quincy! He does look a bit miffed! Those socks are gorgeous. You have great colour and pattern sense! You always seem to know just what yarn to use to make your project stand out! And that heel is fantastic!

Quincy looks wise beyond his years :) Your new socks are really nice! And yes, what is going on with this weather?

Wonderful socks! Lucky you. : )

Beautiful socks! I’m afraid I can’t feel too bad about whatever “chilly” weather you are having. With windchill it’s supposed to be about -30F here this weekend.

Those are lovely. Well done, you!
I hope Quincy can recover from his heartbreak soon. ;^)

Those look so warm and elegant, although sympathy for a cold day in Hawaii you are not going to get from me!

Such pretty socks, and don’t you just love those Harmony’s?
(((hugs)))

These socks are gorgeous! But you know, if you knit it in Shibui, I will probably like it, not matter what it is. My kid now has the phrase, “Go, Pats!” committed to memory. Anytime he sees football on TV he says, “go Pats!” It’s kind of funny. He referred to the cowboys as “stars” over the weekend.

Another pair of gorgeous socks!!! I have lots of the sock books that you do, but I do not appreciate them until I have seen your socks knit up so beautifully. I have some handspun that will work very well with this pattern. I recently ordered Selbuvotter and the set of Harmony dpns in all the sock sizes. Did you use the Magic Loop for these socks or 2 circular needles? Great picture of darling Quincy.

Quincy looks pretty crestfallen, that’s for sure :o)
You’ve got beautiful socks to console yourself with, though.

The socks look great! The stitch pattern and the yarn really go together well!

Beautiful socks! I love the heel…it’s really very different!

Very pretty!

I think this socks are the most beautiful i have seen for a long time.
