Knitters! Babies! Yarn! Oh my.

Posted under KIP & stash

It was another wild and crazy night at Aloha Knitters with another unbelievable turnout of knitters and crocheters. Would you look and see how many of us there are? in Hawaii? (And these are just the ones that bother to show up at meetings. Just think of all the others lurking in their homes, too busy to come.)

Among the throng was a new addition. Introducing Shannon! This gorgeous boy is only 3 months old. I find it singularly amazing to be able to say that I knew him when he was still in his Momma’s belly. And he is so well behaved! I haven’t heard him cry yet, though this is his second meeting. His momma (Chris K.) must be so proud!

Also at the meeting was Kris of Bockstar Knits and wouldn’t you know she was destashing. As much as I tried to resist, I couldn’t pass up a skein of Wollmeise in the Spice Market colorway. Such rich, saturated colors! Besides, what are the chances of me seeing this rare yarn again? So I really couldn’t pass this up.

I’m not sure what pattern will eventually be used with this yarn, but I’m thinking something textured like Nutkin, though I just realized the model was made with this exact yarn. How boring of me to make an exact copy. Vinland might also work too. This might even be the yarn for the Marina Piccolo, which I’ve been dying to make. The ideas are percolating. Opinions welcome.

So, we had knitters. We had crocheters. We had babies. Okay, it was one baby, but what a baby! And we had yarn. There was also some apple pie. Mmm. All in all, another great night with my knit buds.

As for the weekend? I plan on hitting the bead store for some wire. If you see more earrings in the future, you’d be right. With the NFL Playoffs this weekend, there’ll be plenty of time for beading and knitting.

In the meantime, happy Friday! Keep safe and knit happy!

Cute baby! I have been trying to get my hands on some Wollmeise forever - I’m a little jealous over here :-) Have a great weekend!

The G. I. Dennis pattern I just finished would look good in this color. You can see the socks on my blog OR at my Ravelry page where I’m DeeK.

Shannon is adorable! Boy … knitting, babies and apple pie. What could be better?

What a cutie! I think Nutkins would be gorgeous in this - who cares if the model was the same. When are you opening your Etsy store for earrings? :-)

I look forward to seeing more of your bead creations! You have a wonderful knitting group, it looks like so much fun for everyone. I check the Loopy Ewe every day for Wollmeise, I’m glad you got some for yourself. I vote for Marina Piccola. You always know the prettiest patterns!

Sigh. I wish you would stop talking about those meetings. You are making me lonely!

I had a skein of Woolmeisse and thought it was incredibly rough. I traded it. How does yours feel?

that was so much fun last night! and to think i used to be one of those lurkers too busy to come out….i need to post some pictures when i get home, but i showed my husband and he was surprised so many people turned up at a knitters’ meet-up. so you got that skein of wollmeise! i was so tempted to pick something up, but kept reminding myself college tuition is due….i’m planning to bead and knit too this weekend - couple of birthday gifts and i want to finish those mitts. did you see barb’s beautiful “bling bling” crystal bracelet last night? so pretty!have a nice weekend!

Oh, Spice market is one of my favorite colors of Wollmeise! Good catch on the destash. My vote is for Marina Piccola. I bet that pattern and that yarn would be perfect for each other.

Sounds like a great party! and are you really going to do Vinland??? I’ve been thinking about ordering the kit in the Pinot colorway, but haven’t been able to get into the website since the Harlot posted about her kit. I’ll try over the weekend. And Nutkin! What great socks! I think Nutkin would be terrific in that yarn…well of course it would! It already was! I say go for it!

As for me, I just finished some plain black gloves for my friend and now I’m going back to Icarus.

    hugggggggggssssssss

What a cutie pie baby with his chubby little squishy cheeks. And DUH no passing on the wollmeise! I think that yarn will be gorgeous in anything. Our group finally decided on a meeting place and time, so I’m going to knit group tomorrow! About time…

*sigh* The next time I fly inter-island I wanna come to Aloha knit-nite! I love that colorway, and I agree that Nutkin exactly as written may be boring. Go with the spice Market theme! I see something Morroccan…
    Aloha!

I wouldn’t be able to resist the Wollmeise either! It’s so so pretty… and it would look lovely as any of the socks you are contemplating.

  15. Barb on 11 Jan 2008 at 10:27 pm #

    What a party, no?

  16. Robbyn on 12 Jan 2008 at 4:22 am #

Okay - if the yarn is perfect for the pattern, does it matter if it’s been done before? It will be new to you :) I vote for Nutkin - very spiffy design in a gorgeous yarn! Second place goes to Vinland - though I tend to see those in a blues or blue-violets. Marina Piccolo are beautiful but for me they scream sea colors - blue greens, aquas, etc.

Boy, that “Spice Market” colorway sure has me drooling - what a gorgeous yarn!

Wollemise! Oh, you lucky, lucky girl!!! Nutkin, definitely Nutkin.

Why can’t I run across anyone destashing stuff like that? I won’t begrudge you your score…….much. ;o)

Spice Market is da bomb! Though I lucked out when I bought mine on Claudia’s online shop before it sold out. The exchange rate, however, is murder.

What a fun group. I hope that the next time I visit family that I’ll be able to make it to your knit night.

  20. Amanda on 12 Jan 2008 at 10:06 am #

Yay for a great get together! Those are always so fun.

And that baby! He’s too cute. I would never get any knitting done with him around. I’d just want to play all the time instead. :-)

  21. Peggy on 12 Jan 2008 at 10:31 am #

wollmeise, you are so lucky! Any of the patterns would be wonderful. I can’t wait to see.

  22. Kate on 12 Jan 2008 at 11:12 am #

What a cute little boy..and wollmeise *sight* I’ve heard so much about it, but haven’t got my hands on it yet. It will be perfect for Marina Piccolo.

  23. Kim on 12 Jan 2008 at 9:07 pm #

That’s a nice pix of Shannon, isn’t it? Wow, that Wollenmeise is more complex a color than I thought at first. Thursday nights are always fun. I feel so lucky to have such a great knit group!

  24. Kelley on 13 Jan 2008 at 5:54 am #

Wow! I’m jealous of the Wollmeise — I’ve been eyeing that yarn for a while!

  25. Jeanne on 13 Jan 2008 at 9:04 am #

Sounds like a fun night out. Good job nabbing that Wollenmeise.

  26. textillian on 14 Jan 2008 at 2:20 am #

    I covet that yarn! Purdy!

Looks like a great time! Congrats on the Wollmeise, no wonder I thought of Nutkin when I saw the colors. : ) Whatever you knit will look lovely; I Like the other two you suggested, or perhaps Barcelona Socks or Scheherazade’s Slippers? (Both these are listed on Ravelry.) Have fun!

  28. Lisa on 14 Jan 2008 at 10:29 am #

Piccola is my vote, but anything you make with that gorgeous yarn will be lovely.

  29. tiennie on 14 Jan 2008 at 4:45 pm #
