Seaweed Lace Socks

Posted under socks

I’ve been doing a lot of running around this week doing various errands. While it’s all made me a little tired, it did give me a lot of time to finish up my latest sock project, the Seaweed Lace Socks.

Pattern: Ribbed Lace from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch

Yarn: ShibuiKnits Sock in Seaweed

Needles: size 1US/2.25mm Harmony DPNs

Started: November 18, 2007

Finished: January 2, 2008

I think the Shibui just might be my favorite sock yarn. It’s soft and squishy and the color changes are very subtle. I’m all about the semi-solids and solids these days. So their colorways are right up my alley.

For a change of pace, I decided to use double points instead of my usual two circular method. I can’t say that it effected me much knitting wise, but I was rather annoyed when I would pick it back up and have stitches fall off the needles. If I were planning on knitting more with double points then I’d probably have to invest in some Needle Tamers.

What else can I say? I loved this project! I loved the yarn. I loved the pattern. I loved the needles. I think that’s why I took so long in finishing them. I wanted to prolong the ecstasy. It’s a good thing I have more Shibui in my stash. :)

Oh I like! I can understand the whole taking your time — some patterns just demand you savor them!

Perfect colour for that pattern! I hear you about prolonging the ecstasy. It’s sometimes almost like a separation anxiety when something is finished.

    Those are beautiful socks!

I’m a DPN person myself, and I don’t have trouble with the stitches falling off the needles, even on my metal Knit Picks needles. I don’t know what I do to keep them on there. I guess I just knit tightly.

I love the socks! And you’ve almost convinced me to get some Shibui sock yarn — not that I really NEED convincing, but even so…. I love the semi-solids.

Those are fab! Well done, you!

Lovely sock and beautiful yarn. That is one I have not tried it sure is tempting.

Gorgeous! I’ll have to try the pattern and the yarn. I use DPN’s all the time - the only time stitches fall off the needle is when I yank the needle out by mistake….

Beautiful! Now if only I could even imagine weather in which to wear lace socks again… (it’s 7 degrees below zero here, Fahrenheit. Sheesh.)

Nice! Great yarn! Love the colour!

Those are gorgeous! I like the semi solid color, I’m deeply fried on multicolor yarn at the moment.

I’ve never had any problems with dpn’s. It’s the two circs that elude me. I finally gave up & went back to the dpn’s.

That yarn really feels nice! But I am determined to knit from stash if possible … so trying new yarns, or buying to be more accurate, has to wait!
It’s so good to have FO so early! Good knitting karma!

They look great! I have only knit a swatch out of some of mine, but I definitely love it! That and Claudia Handpainted. LOVE that stuff.

Lovely! I still haven’t used my skein of Shibui, but from your description, I am looking forward to it. Working with a a skein of cashmere/merino sock yarn right now. That’s truly fabulous stuff from Twirl Girl.

I love the socks! Both the pattern and the color! So much so, that I have been thinking of using this stitch pattern to make a pair of socks for my mom.

What beautiful yarn! They made one gorgeous pair of socks. Thank you for introducing me to a new sock yarn and to a pattern in a book that I happen to have.

Sit back and relax, Opal. You’ve got some wonderful socks on your feet done in beautifully dyed Shibui. You are most fortunate and talented.

They are super lovely! : ) Glad to know you liked the Shibuiknits. I keep thinking about orderng it, but never can decide on a color.

I tense up too much if I use 2 circs with socks. My DPNs don’t fall out of the stitches, though. Are you a loose knitter?
