… but I’ve been busy. The past week has been filled with football. Lots and lots of football. (UH won the WAC Championshop! YAY!) With football, comes knitting. Lots and lots of knitting.
I managed to finish the Ariann and I am ever so pleased with it. I still have to put buttons on it and block the collar, so I’m holding off on photos until I can get that done. Instead I have three other projects that I’ve got to show you.
First up is a sock that I began right after I finished the Idle Love socks. I got the pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks and I’m using Shibui sock yarn with size 1US/2.25mm needles.

Gosh, I love this yarn! It’s so soft and smooshy. There’s some very subtle pooling, but I can live with it because the colors are just so gorgeous. I might even dare to say that I like it.
The color is called Seaweed, so I’m calling this sock Seaweed Lace Rib. The pattern even reminds me a little of seaweed.
Next up is a present for Dani who is moving to Washington State. Dani has worked with one of my doctors for years and has always treated me with kindness that goes beyond the call of duty. I’m going to miss her tremendously so I really want to make her something special.
I have until December 15th to finish so I needed something that would knit up quickly. I decided to make her a pair of Anemoi Mittens since she’s not used to northern winters. I really hope she likes the design. I love it, but I don’t know her well enough to say she will.

Finally, I couldn’t resist casting on for another sweater for myself. I chose the pattern Something Red. I’m using Tatamy Tweed with size 4US/3.5mm needles. I adore this yarn. It’s so soft and easy to knit with that I often forget that I’m working with cotton.

I’m only loosely following the pattern as I had to recalculate the numbers to accommodate my gauge. I really couldn’t have done it without the help of Shelly and this website. With the success of Ariann and Shelly at my side, I’m feeling much more confident in my sweater making abilities.
That’s it for now! I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving!

Holy cow you knit fast! I’m sure she’ll love those mittens, they’re gorgeous! So are your new socks!

Beautiful socks! I am so jealous of that Shibui! (I love saying that name by the way, and yes, I know I am a dork.)
The mittens will make a wonderful gift. I am sure she will love them.
If you knit too many sweaters and make me look lame, I WILL have to swat you with some acryl-ick. ;)

Wow that sock is beautiful!! The mittens are turning out great now - I know they will be so appreciated. As for the sweater - you are doing very well - and that is without any help from me - I am just the one sitting here — you are the one doing all the work!

I can’t wait to see Ariann, but the rest of your blog kept me very entertained. Beautiful sock, I need to put that pattern on my list. Gorgeous mitten!!! What yarn are you using? I do like my Knit Picks Palette and I think you will, too. I’m enjoying your sweater knitting and I will be starting a sweater tonight, too.

How could Dani NOT like those mittens. They are beautiful, as are the seaweed socks. You pick gorgeous patterns!

Ooh, I really like the mittens. I think the blue and white/cream is lovely. I like the tweed sweater, too. I can’t wait to see that in person. And your (almost) completed sweater, too!

Love the socks! I have a skein of that yarn, but haven’t tried it yet. The mittens are lovely too! You are a nice person to give her such a warm sendoff.

How do you knit so fast! I’m amazed. :-) Hawaii rules! Though it looks like we’ll have a horrible Steelers/Dolphins game tonight. I hope that I’m wrong!

Ooooh I like that sock, the seaweed color is pretty and it definitely fits the pattern! Before I even read that sentence I thought to myself, wow it even looks kinda like seaweed…
Hehe, I’m sure they will be pretty done, and I can’t wait to see the finished Ariann!
Jeanne (the other one) on 26 Nov 2007 at 3:26 pm #
Gorgeous socks! Love the pattern and am jealous about the yarn. The mittens are too cute - anytime you want to make more, I live in a cold place too! :-) Can’t wait to see Ariann - and glad you enjoyed all that football!

Beautiful WIPs! Hope you had a great holiday!

I love Shibui Sock yarn. I haven’t had huge problems with hideous pooling, so I am still apt to think that it can do no wrong. All of your projects are so pretty to look at, good luck!

I don’t see how Dani can not love the mittens. They look great, as do the other projects.
Doesn’t finishing a sweater a huge feeling of accomplishment?

Who wouldn’t love those mitts? You’re doing a beautiful job. Great sock, too. I’ve been eyeing that pattern for a while now. It’s wonderful to see it knit up.

Dani must be a very special lady. She will have warm remembrances of you for years to come.
Karen B. on 27 Nov 2007 at 10:57 am #
Oh, my dear I just love your Seaweed socks! Rest assured that Dani will adore the mittens, too.

Those socks are fabulous! Wonderful subtle color and great pattern. I think it’s really nice that you give such great gifts and everyone is going to be warm and cozy this winter :-)

You always have the most beautiful knitting going on - and let me tell you, coming to your page and seeing your gorgeous work is always a big inspiration to me - thank you so much for that! I’m especially impressed by the mittens you’re doing, and my gosh, those socks! The yarn looks every bit as soft and cozy as you describe it, and the color is so awesome too! Are you knitting these socks for yourself, or will they also be a present?
Jenny Raye on 28 Nov 2007 at 10:51 am #
You tease! Dangling a finished Ariann out there like that, and not showing photos. You have some great projects in the works.

wow Opal you are most prolific these days!! Watching lots of football while knitting is my new favorite combo–amazing what a lot you can accomplish while veg-ing out! Love your green socks, looks really awesome and comfy :)
Robbyn on 29 Nov 2007 at 4:57 am #
The socks are splendid - as are all your socks. I’m not partial to greens as a rule, the your greens always look tempting to me. Must be that Hawaiian sunlight :)
Something Red is a lovely little cardigan and I’m looking forward to seeing your take on it :) Did the re-calculations do the trick?

Those socks are awesome!!!! I love green and it is really showing the pattern nicely. All the other kniiting is gorgeous as well. So sorry to hear about the loss of your baby. I know how difficult that can be. Prayers and hugs.
