Here comes the rain.

The rainy season arrived with a series of thunderstorms over the weekend. Add to that, a Sunday filled with a couple of awesome football games, I was provided with some quality knitting and recuperating time.

I put that time to good use and managed to work my way past the side shaping of the Ariann. Maybe I’ll be able to finish this in time for NaKniSweMo!

While I don’t totally love knitting with Cotton Ease (it’s squeaky and doesn’t have much give), I do love the stitch definition as well as the drape of the fabric.

Despite my need for avoidance of yarn quantity issues, I didn’t completely neglect the Pomatomus socks for my mother either. There’s some pooling going on in the foot area because I decreased down to 64 sts to fit my mother’s tiny narrow feet.

I’m nearly done with it and I think I’ll have just enough yarn to finish it. Thank goodness my mother has small feet! Hopefully I’ll be done with these sometime today and all the anxiety will be over.

Since I’m still feeling a little under the weather and my writing is a bit lackluster I think I’ll enliven this post with a shot of Quincy and his blanket. Just be glad I decided not to regale you all with the highlights of the football games. ;-)

I’m glad to hear you are on the road to recovery and hope you are 100% soon. I love that picture of Quincy, he is adorable! I appreciate your review of Cotton Ease as I got some to make one of my sister’s a sweater. You have a good bit of yarn left for your mother’s socks. I think there is a little excitement to the will I/won’t I have enough yarn. It is very helpful that your mother has small feet. I can’t wait to see your Pomatomas socks.

Besides all the pretty knitting and cute cat pics I SEE KNAILS!!! Lovely pink KNAILS!!!! :)

Arian is looking so good. I know what you mean about knitting with cotton. Sometimes it actually hurts my hands. I know your mom is going to love those socks. And Quincy is just an adorable little pumpkin. I started a Weimie knitters group on Ravelry. Not a huge hit, but fun to see if anyone joins. Gllad you are feeling better.

Your project looks just beautiful! I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished.

I think I caught your cold. Last night my head was so foggy I couldn’t figure out how to do the knit stitch. Hopefully I’ll remember again so I won’t be embarrassed on Thursday!

I really enjoyed the rain and thunderstorms. I stayed inside and sewed all day Sunday.

Oh … I’m working with Cotton Ease too … but I like it a lot. Cotton yarns characteristically don’t have much give … but the fabric knitted from Cotton Ease is very comfortable. I just don’t like it being too thick … so I can only make sleeveless tanks for summer.

  8. Hattie Says:

Ariann is going to be gorgeous in that color too.

What a cutie pie he is! Such a blissful look on his little face. :D

  9. nova Says:

I think you will finish Ariann in Novemeber! It’s going to be gorgeous!

  10. Jeanne Says:

Ariann is gorgeous – love the color! Quincy looks so cute…and snuggly.

I don’t know, Opal. I wouldn’t have minded a football overview. It was a good weekend. :-) Glad that you’re feeling better and happy knitting!

  12. Dee Says:

I think Quincy does not want to be disturbed from his nap. LOL

I love the cotton ease sweater. That will be so nice on chilly winter evenings.

  13. *karen Says:

Ariann caught my eye too. I’m hot and cold when it comes to cotton ease. OK, I actually kind of love it :o)

Anyway, you aren’t kidding about the rain, huh? Wow. Makes me homesick.

  14. Jane Says:

Your sweater looks great to me! I’m surprised Quincy hasn’t taken it over by now.

  15. Veronica Says:

OMG… Quincy is toooo cute in that shot!!!! :)

    Aloha, I am a bit of a lurker…and finally posting a comment:

I love Ariann, I am jealous that you have time to knit for yourself this time of year!
I would love to see your pomatomus socks before you give them to your Mom! I have been thinking about those socks more than any others for a long long time.
Quincy looks so grown up, I remember a post not too long ago when he was a bit of a newbie!

  17. debbie Says:

quincy looks like he just got up – or out of the rain? dang! the lightening and thunder was intense here on the windward side – i could feel the thunder! i like the color of ariann – on my screen it looks kinda sage-y – blue grey….hope you’re feeling better for thursday’s aloha knitters….

  18. fleegle Says:

What a beautiful sweater! I can understand why you are knitting with cotton, though–hot there!

Love your socks. Keep thinking I need to make a pair of those for me (for a change).

  19. limedragon :-: Harriet Says:

Can’t wait to see Ariann finished! Fingers crossed for you and the Pomatomus. : )

  20. Robbyn Says:

See – I told you you’d have enough yarn :) I’m glad for the sake of your mother’s socks!

Your sweater is looking very sharp! I have some Cotton Ease in the stash, but haven’t used it yet. I generally like cotton and cotton blends so I expect to like this too.

Squeaking though? Shudddder…. I may not be able to deal with that.

Quincy is his usual charming self :) Jade and I send our daily best to Onyx :)

Ariana is lovely! and Master Quincy is a HAM…
What a cute shot! (and don’t think he didn’t know you were taking it, either…)
    (((hugs)))

  22. textillian Says:

I know nothing about small feet. We’ve got clodhoppers in my family, and I was called Flippers in college. Nuf said.

The sweater and socks look great.

  23. Peggy Says:

Told you it would work. You just have to knit quickly before the yarn runs out. Isn’t that a strange phenomenon?

  24. Meredith Says:

I am really liking that sweater! (Especially if the color I’m seeing on my monitor is true…sort of a medium grayed teal.)

I hope you didn’t get any flooding in Hawaii Kai…when I read that Waimanalo had had over 7 inches I nearly fainted. That was quite a storm!

I think you may have sent your respiratory woes to New Mexico, as I am now snorting and coughing and wheezing. ‘Tis the season, I guess. The Inn is full of sickies right now.

Good luck with finishing your Mom’s socks with yarn to spare!!!!!

    hugggggggggssssss

The cotton ease thingy looks great. After knitting primarily with woolish yarn I’m sure it is quite a shocker. Socks look great and kitty is adorable.

  26. Karen B. Says:

So much eye candy in one post, Opal! Beautiful color on your Arianne. The hot pink shot of nail color on an almost finished sock (did I not tell you it would work out?). And finally, Quincy’s squishy-faced pink nose peeking out from his blankie.

Thanks for brightening my drab day!

OMG, what a CUTIE-PIE!!!! That is one photogenic cat… I needed a smile tonight. Thanks!

    Blessings!
