You win some, you lose some.

Posted under socks

After the sad loss to the New England Patriots yesterday, I’m taking comfort in a finished pair of socks and the UH win against San Jose. If my NFL team is no longer undefeated this season, at least my college team still is.

Pattern: Rococo Socks by Anne Hanson

Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in China Blue

Needles: Size 0US/2.00mm

Started: October 3, 2007

Finished: October 12, 2007

No modifications other then a change of needle size.

These were only my second pair of toe-up socks and I really enjoyed them. I used a provisional cast-on for a short-row toe as stated in the pattern. I was a little worried about holes but as you work back down the toe, Anne has you do a second wrap around each stitch. This seems to solve the problem of holes in the toes and heels quite nicely.

Another detail I really liked was the lace rib at the top of the sock. It’s just the right design element to set off the beautiful stitch pattern.

I enjoyed knitting these socks immensely and I can’t believe how quickly they knit up. Luckily, my mother loves them as much as I do and has requested a pair in grey. This also means that I get to hunt up some more sock yarn since I don’t have any grey in my stash. What a chore that will be. ;-)

Yet another delightful combination of pattern and color, these socks are stunning! I appreciate the tip about getting rid of the holes for short row heels and toes, they have always bothered me on my socks as I use the short row heel almost exclusively. I will be checking out those links very soon.

I can see that the perfect Christmas present for you would be a chest to keep all you socks in - perhaps cedar? I love the scent of cedar wood and it’s supposed to help deter moths.

Lovely socks, really lovely color :)

Absolutely gorgeous! I must remember that LL colorway next time I’m in the mood for blue. And your Clapotis is just lovely, the colors remind me of both the Rainforest and Malachite, a little bit.

I’m sorry your team lost, but I’m glad the socks are a winner. They’re wonderful!

The socks look great. And it sounds like you are taking on that “painful task” of looking for grey sock yarn for a version for your mother like a trooper!

Love the socks. Love the promise of new yarn. And, the Hawaii game was sure fun to watch…but a little too close for comfort!

Aren’t those just gorgeous!!!! I gotta get some more solid sock yarn.

  28. Meredith on 16 Oct 2007 at 5:39 pm #

Those are GORGEOUS!!! I have to get some of that yarn…makes me think of the ocean in the shallows around Nanakuli when I used to drive out that way (and one day my VW and I nearly got washed out to sea!).

Just wonderful socks, Opal…I’m sure your mom will love her gray ones when they are done.

    huggggggggsssssssss

Awww yesss, these are the perfect socks!!! They’re yummy - I so love the pattern, and the colorway inspired me to the same thoughts as Meredith mentioned - ocean in shallows, holidays, summer…. ;) Did I ever mention that you’re the Queen of the Sock Knitters? Yes, indeed!
