Rock The Bag!

Posted under bags & felting

While watching football this past Sunday, I managed to finish up the knitting on the Rock Lobster Lock Bag. The pattern suggests completing three repeats of the pattern, but after measuring the length after 2.5 repeats, I decided it was long enough.

Before felting, the bag looked rather pathetic.

The bag was magically transformed after felting.

The specs…

Pattern: Rock Lobster Lock Bag by Anne Hanson

Yarn: Ella Rae Classic (Color 28) and Plymouth Boku (Color 1)

Needles: Size 10.5US(6.5mm) and 11US(8.0)

Started: September 16, 2007

Finished: September 23, 2007

The other modification I made with this project was to add pockets. I knitted two squares of fabric approximately 9″x9′ and then sewed them into the inside of the bag as invisibly as I could. This is a terrible picture, but you get the idea. For another shot of the pocket, click here.

I had a really good time with this project. I loved working with the big needles and the big squishy yarn. The slipped stitch pattern was interesting and entertaining with just the right amount of challenge.

I really loved the colors of this project. I’m not sure how much of my wardrobe will match with it, but I find that I don’t really care. For now, it’s enough that I love the end result and that I enjoyed the process of creating it.

That is so cute! It’s amazing how much felting can transform a project! I love the yarn choice! It’s cute enough that it doesn’t matter whether or not it matches. It’s too beautiful to keep in the closet.

It’s a very cute bag….but you know, I’ve come to realize I dislike felting! It’s so inexact and so hard to get the finished product to look *perfect* (altho your bag is right up there!)

Having said that I don’t know what I would do without the felted slippers that are on my feet oh about 16 hours a day :)

What a cute bag, Opal! I just love those colors together. Isn’t Boku the nicest yarn?! I think the felting turned out great. Nice, nice job.

I wouldn’t care if nothing in my wardrobe matched either. I’d buy a few pieces for this baby! Love it.

How beautiful, with all those jewel tone colors!
Also, your Bee Fields shawl came out gorgeous. You are just busting out fab projects left and right, eh? ;)

Love the transformation! From your earlier picture I wasn’t sure how the colors would go together, but it looks terrific. And great idea on adding the pockets!

What a great little bag - and the colors are really nice :) You’re right about how much things can change just with a little ride in the washing machine.

Bee fields is just amazing - I knew it would be since it’s a gorgeous pattern and since it was you doing the knitting. You are going to wear it, right? It wouldn’t just be a shame for that to lie in a cupboard somewhere - it would be a sin!

I was expecting to hear the B-52s when I saw the post. It is still going through my head.

The bag looks great! It looks like the hedgehog approves.

I love the bag, Opal. I am smitten with the cover bag in Bag Style, but I haven’t bought it yet. Gotta wait until after Taos Wool Festival next weekend and then see if I have any money left at all!

    Hugggggggggssssssssss
