It all started with the hedgehog. Since the hedgehog didn’t turn out as planned, I decided I needed a corrective experience. Hence my foray to Isle Knits on Saturday where I bought a pattern and some yarn.
With the help of big needles and well written instructions, I knitted not only one fish, but two fish in two days. After all the She-Fish needed a He-Fish! And talk about instant gratification. Wowzah.

Pattern: Fiberspace Felted Fish
Needles: 10.5US
Yarn: Noro Kureyon in Color No. 154 (She-Fish) and I think Color No. 40 (He-Fish)
Started: 8/15/07
Finished: 8/16/07
No modifications.

The sample that I saw at Isle Knits had a more rounded mouth, but I couldn’t figure out how to sew the mouth shut and keep the shape. So I ended up with kissing fish. I don’t mind, I think they’re kind of cute that way.
I also didn’t felt them all the way down because I didn’t want them to shrink down any further. Plus, I like the faint stitch definition of the half-felted fabric.

The reason I’m not sure about the color for the He-Fish is because the yarn was just lying around the house without the ball band. If I had more suitable wool lying around, I might be tempted to make even more fish. That’s how much I love this pattern. :)
I think it’s safe to say that there are more soft toys are in my future. They make great weekend projects and they’re immensely satisfying.
I’m not sure what I’ll do with all of them as I’m not ready to start giving them away just yet. I’ve become really attached to all of them. Even the hedgehog or especially the hedgehog has a special place in my heart.
I guess I’m just a big kid at heart.

Those are so cute! There’s nothing wrong with holding a collection of knitted toys before you feel comfortable giving them away (if ever)… they do make great baby gifts, though.

Oh you are such an enabler…I just bought that pattern and the other fish pattern and from your source as well! (I’m in VA for crying out loud!)
lololol
They’re adorable. And I have 3 grandsons. The Hedgehog and fish will be Xmas presents…I can rely on them NOT giving my boys lead poisoning! (not to mention using up odds and ends of yarns…)
Thanks!!!!
(((hugs)))

Holy mother of coral reefs, Opal! I heart your fish. That is all.

Daphne wants them! And they are really adorable. Guess you don’t have to knit them little wigs, huh?

OMG those are seriously cute. I keep telling myself I need to knit el kiddos some toys, but honestly they have so many regular toys it would be pointless lol. Maybe if I could find a good dinosaur pattern for nick, he really has a thing for those…

Absolutely adorable! I love she-fish.
I have tons of patterns for non-felted animals and teddies, but i think the felted llamas/alpacas and sheep are somewhere soon in the queue. I need some serious short term projects to keep me sane!

What darling fish you have created! It is very nice that fish do not have hair so there are no issues with all that. How do the kitties like them? Could you be starting your own line of cat toys?

Very cute!!

This is reminding me of Dr. Suess-
One Fish, Two Fish
She Fish, He Fish
Even More Fish
Hedgehog
Maybe it’s a Haiku. The fish are adorable! If I started knitting toys, I’d have to keep them. I am armed with some nice patterns ;) First, the mouse…

They are very cute fish, though I don’t necessarily believe that every she fish needs a he fish, or vice versa. Nor do fish need bicycles, or so I am told.
Soon we shall see kissing fish at Hallmark.

By leaving a little stitch definition it sort of looks like scales. You could always stuff one with catnip and give it to Quincy as a toy.
The are awful cute!

I love those fish! I never could get into toys myself but I enjoy seeing YOU knit them! Will one of these stuffed creatures become your mascot?

I say you need a whole school of knitted fishies…and I like the idea of them being “kissy fish”

Ohhh the Kissing Fish are adorable! I really like them! Way to go - keep up the great knitting!

Oh my goodness - those are adorable! Beautiful colors lovely knitting. Have you thought about hanging them - so they look like they’re swimming?
Trust me, you’re never too old for toys. I not only make them from time to time, I buy them too. Not often, mind you, but since none of them ever get given or thrown away, the pile is moderately substantial :)
And consider this: Why should the realm of glowing colors, pleasing softness and appealing design be the strict purview of babies? Who says this is someting we should grow out of?
Agnes on 20 Sep 2007 at 5:22 am #
OMG! They are soooo cute!

These fish are just the cutest!!! How very adorable they are, especially in their cheerful colors! Now you have “He” and “She” fish, how about some multicolored babies to add to the family?

Your little fishes are so cute!!!!!

I love your fish, Opal! I may have to try some one of these days. And the hedgehog…I really adore that pattern…if I could just make myself sit down and do it. And I think I’ve been talked into knitting some Christmas mice for the Inn holiday decorations (which are WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY over the top, really something to behold).
