Monday Malaise

I had another whirlwind weekend, where I watched two great movies and two great football games. I just love football season and Netflix. I also squeezed in a visit to Isle Knits.
I went into Isle Knits with a firm resolution to resist the sock yarn. Unfortunately, Sue had just received a shipment of Schaeffer Anne and one of the skeins jumped right into my hands. Honestly, I tried putting it down several times but after some discussion with Barb and blogfree Dana, I knew it had to be mine. After all, who knows when I’ll run across this colorway again!

After all that, I’ve been left with a case of Monday Malaise. I woke up feeling heavy headed and though I had planned to work on the Bee Fields Shawl, but I found my brain too fuzzy for lace. So I’ve jumped the gun and started the Rock Lobster Lock Bag.

I’ve become totally seduced by the big needles. Results are nearly instantaneous and the yarn? The Ella Rae Classic is so soft and squishy between my fingers. It’s heavenly. I’m eager to start using the Boku. The colors are so deep and saturated, I just want to drown in them.

Really this is the perfect project to cure my malaise and soothe my soul. I’m sure I’ll be back on my game tomorrow and get back to the lace. For now, big needles is just what I need.

There is one problem though. I might not have enough yarn for the project. I only have 2 balls of the Classic, which adds up to 438 yards. I need 500 yards. I have 3 balls of the Boku, which adds up to 297 yards. I need 400 yards. It looks like I’ll need to make another trip to the LYS.

What a travesty.

Oh, that Anne is gorgeous - good find! I have the same problem with sock yarn (who doesn’t always need more hand-knit socks?) and I would not have been able to resist that colorway either…

Hmm, running out of yarn. Is that poor planning or something more devious?

That Anne looks positively sticky. No wonder you couldn’t get it off your hands.

    Big needles! Yoicks!

We must be related! I had yarn jump into my hands on Friday. I bet it’s genetic!

I have some Anne that I got off eBay. I am awaiting further instruction from it.

And not buying enough yarn to finish a project? Setting yourself up such that you have to go back to LYS? Is it time for an intervention?

Damn jumping sock yarn! The yarn stores I frequent are infested with it too!

And how funny, I was just thinking yesterday (during my LOTR marathon) if/how Elijah Wood ever got past being Frodo Baggins. I mean, Orlando Bloom got over being an elf, but he’s hot. :) (Yeah, I know he was in Eternal Sunshine, but I haven’t seen that one yet.)

  7. Hattie Says:

Ohhh yea that’s some pretty yarn! Some of my favorite colors.

I know what you mean about not being up to lace. There are just some days when it’s all I can do to remember to breathe lol.

you’ve got some pretty rich looking stash there - love the colors!

  9. Veronica Says:

You are too funny with your yarn shop crawls!!!!

How is the car? Think you’ll make it this Thursday? We’ve got some total gossip to catch up on girlfriend!!!

  10. Jeanne Says:

Mondays - just a terrible day, eh? The Anne is gorgeous - you had to buy it! Always good to have an excuse to go to the LYS!

I know how you feel, Opal. Lately, I have had blog malaise. Just can’t seem to force myself to post. The Shaefer Anne is lovely. Their yarn is so nice to work with. I, too, need big needles some days. Maybe it’s the instant gratification of seeing a project rapidly progress with big needles and heavier yarn. And U do feel so for you having to make another trip to LYS. It’s a heavy burden, but someone has to do it. Heheheh.

What a cute bag, it’ll look very nice with that yarn… (Maybe a slightly shorter bag would work, if that’s to your liking?)

    I’ve been on a sock break myself… working on a stranded project. : )

I have a skein of Schaefer Anne in my stash and I am very much looking forward to knitting it up. Yours is very pretty as is your Rock Lobster bag. I am not a fan of felting, but that bag has me thinking about it. You always have something great going on and I can’t wait to see more of this bag.

  14. Carol Says:

Oh you poor oor baby! Another trip to the yarn shop?! Be brave woman, you can do it! That bag should cheer anyone up, it’s so nice! Be brave, we’re with ya!

  15. Dee Says:

I bet there will be more sock yarn in your future!!! That Shaffer Anne did not arrive alone at the store.

The color of that sock yarn is just beautiful. I can’t WAIT to see what you buy to keep it company in the stash.

Those pesky skeins are known to imitate Mexican Jumping Beans. Best defense lies in withholding yourself from proximate distance.

But why would we want to do that?

    Blessings!

  17. Cookie Says:

The Anne is gorgeous! I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I have a skein that refuses to help me decide what it should be. I hate that.

Thanks for the link to that bag. I think I’m in love.

  18. Jeanne Says:

I’ve not seen that bag pattern before. I like it a lot. The Anne is beautiful. I can see why you could not pass it up.

  19. nova Says:

Travesty indeed! I hope your malaise has passed.

Trips to the yarn store are such a burden… I hope you’ll try to enjoy yourself. :)

  21. Nora Says:

I’ll be watching to see whay you do with the Schaeffer Anne - I’ve just received a hank as a gift!

  22. Meredith Says:

Ohhhhhhhhhh, Opal! That Anne is gorgeous! > The bag is interesting, too…I haven’t seen the pattern before. I’ll be interested to see your result. I don’t think you need to worry much about dye lot on the Boku if you have to buy more (and I think you will) but an alternative would be to get a different colorway and phase it in as you go up. Something that tones.

I’m winding sock yarn tonight but am still trying to pick a pattern. And as for knitting, it’s Icarus night…I’m doing as you suggested and alternating among my three major current projects. I may have to start another shawl, though, because even though Icarus has yarn overs, it doesn’t really count as lace till one hits the edging, does it?

    Kiss the cats!

Ack! You found Boku at a yarn shop in Hawaii? I can’t even find that in the yarn shops here and I’m making a sweater that calls for that yarn. (I ended up subbing with something else). Anyway, I’ll be checking in on your knitting progress.

  24. Dipsy D. Says:

It’s so satisfying working with big needles, isn’t it? Talking about instant gratification ;) And mind you, no one can blame you for not being able to resist this goodie sock yarn - my gosh, this color mix is ever so yummy! Can’t wait to see how it’ll look knit up!

  25. Shelly Says:

Very cool- I love the colors! Hope that you can get more - I know I used more than it called for for the clapotis, so if you can get more - go for it!
    Keep up the knitting!

  26. Jane Says:

Another trip to a knitting store? How awful for you, you poor thing! LOL! Everyone needs a break from those longer projects. I’m always in favor of anything that will be fun personally. Big needles are wonderful for a change of pace! Of course, you may have to just buy more yarn in order to use up what is left over from this project!
