I’ve been making steady progress on the Bee Fields Shawl. Right now I’m nearly done with the Bee In Fields Section 2 and I’m so in love with this particular bit of knitting.

At first, I was a little bit nervous about how the dropped stitches would work out. I thought the holes would gape too much, but after I completed the first repeat I was in love.

I particularly enjoy the knitting acrobatics employed to create the butterfly effect. And even though I’m no fan of the backwards loop cast on (scroll down for video), I think it’s well worth the trouble.

After this section is completed, I move on to the edging. I may just have this shawl finished before the weekend is through and I’m just a little sad to see that happen.
To prevent this post-project depression, I’ve been planning on other projects to start and I think I might try something a little different. Sticking with Anne’s designs, but instead of a shawl or a stole, I might cast on for a felted bag. I already have the yarn, so I’m prepped for surgery ready to start. (Someone has been watching too much Grey’s Anatomy. The premiere is on the 27th! Whee!)
I think the bag will keep me occupied until the 23rd, which is the start of the Clapotis Second Wave. If not, there’s always the Lotus Blossom Shawl to start for my mother or maybe the Sampler Stole from a Gathering of Lace.
Let’s not even mention the many projects already on the needles. Let’s not even go there.
No, I don’t think I’ll be lacking in projects to keep me busy.

Gorgeous! Really! It’s the 1st I’ve seen this part worked and it’s awesome. Uh oh, this post may cost me;)

Ooo, a Second Wave KAL? I might have to join, seeing as I missed the first one…
Your Bee shawl is exquisite, I can see why you are having fun with it.

It’s so pretty Opal!

Beautiful shawl, Opal. Can’t wait to see the finished project. I joined Clapotis but couldn’t wait for the 23rd. So I cast on today just to practice. You aren’t the only one with too many projects OTN. Happy knitting and have a great weekend.

I see them, I can see the wings. It is lovely, the dropped stitches have worked their magic.

So many beautiful things you’ve got in store, Opal! You’re buzzing right along (couldn’t resist) with your shawl :o)

I’m loving this. The colour is gorgeous, and it certainly looks soft. No problem with the yarn being a single?

Whoa. That is so cool. Awesome, awesome bees!
And thanks for the link to the rock lobster bag, I promptly added it to my Ravelry queue. Love it!

that is a particularly nice section you’re working on your shawl – lovely work! looks like a busy knitting weekend for you!
September 14th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
So pretty! I really want to make this. Maybe once I cast off one of my current shawls…
I too am impatiently awaiting Grey’s Anatomy. Big Brother has kept me company all summer though so the wait hasn’t been too bad.
I’m also planning on knitting a lotus blossom, maybe with my pink handspun?

That is a beautiful section – what a great stitch! I can’t wait to see it finished….since I’m not lace knitting now, I love watching you do it!
September 14th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
Awww, there’s a whole lot of beauty that you have in store! Especially the Lotus Blossom Shawl, I so love this pattern and will definitely have to make one for myself too! And that section you’re working on right now with your shawl – soooo beautiful!

This is really the first time that I actually saw a recognizeable figure with lace knitting (besides leaves.) Beautiful.

Love the color you are working in!
September 15th, 2007 at 3:16 am
So the handpainted yarn is working for the Shawl, huh? I was thinking of ordering some for BFS too…

That is the most beautiful shawl pattern I have ever seen. I love how the center of the butterfly knots around.

Good goolgie-mooglie, you have a lot planned!
Bee Fields is just breathtaking!
September 15th, 2007 at 4:29 am
The Lotus Blossom shawl is really lovely; I have often admired Fiddlesticks’ designs.
So Bee Fields id aslmost done? My God, woman – you knit fast! Do you ever get pulled over for knitting more than 40,000 stitches/hour?
Heheh….
“Friends don’t let friends knit drunk”
Okay, I’ll stop now :)
Happy Saturday!

oh so pretty! I always love coming to your blog. Your fibery doings are always so lovely!

Glad to see you’re doing something so pretty and rewarding. Your hedgehog is very cute, but I can only imagine how boring tacking that extra hair on would be. Your shawl is gorgeous! I love the color and the pattern, beautiful knitting.

That section really is quite beautiful – almost enough to tempt me to knit a shawl type thing. And the green – yum!
I still haven’t done a Clapotis… but I’ve been thinking about it recently before I heard there was a new KAL forming – isn’t it amazing how there are waves of group thought around the knitosphere?
September 15th, 2007 at 2:12 pm
it looks great! love that green yarn . . .
September 15th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
I’m voting for the bag if you must start something new lol!

We used to keep bees. I loved it with a passion, and I love this shawl! I am not advanced enough to knit such a thing of beauty, but I love seeing yours….
Oh my gosh, it is just beautiful!!
September 16th, 2007 at 7:04 pm
Your Bee Fields is looking really beautiful! I love the section of lace you are knitting right now. I’m so tempted by that shawl but I have too much to knit to even think about it so I guess I will have to have vicarious thrills from watching you knit it. Great work on it!
September 17th, 2007 at 2:28 am
Just gorgeous…!
(but then, I wouldn’t expect less!)
(((hugs)))
September 17th, 2007 at 3:22 am
Lovely bees! Beautiful yarn choice, too–I can’t wait to see it all blocked out!
September 17th, 2007 at 8:43 am
It’s so pretty! I can’t wait to see the finished product!
September 17th, 2007 at 11:01 am
Oh my, the color is so rich and deep, the knitting so delicate…it’s just perfect, Opal.
September 19th, 2007 at 2:03 am
Oh that is looking great! Then start the Clapotis!!
