I finally blocked the Luna Moth and I’m so relieved that it’s done. Please excuse the rather crappy pictures, it was a dark and cloudy day.

Pattern: Luna Moth
Needles: Size 5US/3.75mm Addi Lace Needles
Yarn: Super Kydd from Elann (approximately 2.5 balls)
Started: April 30, 2007
Finished: July 26, 2007

I didn’t make any modifications other then adding more repeats to make the shawl a little bigger. I didn’t keep track of how many repeats I did. Nor did I measure the shawl. I’m just a lazy bum. :-)

I can’t say this was one of my favorite knits. I battled the mohair too many times for that. And although the pattern is simple, I never could quite get the rhythm of it down. Usually I find some sort of harmony in the stitch pattern and it just didn’t happen for me this time around.
Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? Musical knitting? I know some of you are shaking your heads at me, but I swear that there are times when I’m knitting lace when everything just clicks and there’s a certain beat to my needles as they click to the pattern stitches. Surely I’m not the only one who’s experienced this.
Either way, I’m glad to put this shawl behind me and move on. What’s in my future do you ask? Why another insect of course!

I know, I know. Bzzzzzzz! In spite of the troubles you had with it, the shawl is just gorgeous.

It’s lovely. Mohair can be such a pain to knit with, but looks so good… : )

Lazy bum or not, it’s a beautiful shawl!!

You may not have clicked with La Luna, but it sure is a pretty froth of a thing. Now, on to do-bee-do-bee-do. I started its cousin, the Honeybee stole, today.
It’s challenging enough that you will love it!

I think it’s gorgeous — I love the meandering lines. I’m just about tempted to make one. Just about.

What a beautiful shawl.
Reading your entry, I’ve realized that’s what happened with my luna shawl too. It’s sitting in a heap half-way finished because I got so frustrated having to correct so many mistakes. It’s not a difficult pattern, but I haven’t been able to find the rhythm. It was going to get frogged, but looking at yours, maybe I’ll pick it back up.

Beautiful! Can’t wait to see the Bee shawl in progress.

i like how your shawl looks done up in mohair - so weightless and dreamy looking….

You may not have loved the knitting process on this one, but it’s beautiful!

This is so pretty! And, I thought that I was the only one that hears music when I knit. ;-)

It may not have been your favorite to work on, but it sure is beautifully done! Congratulations on the finish.

It’s so floaty looking, like a cloud :)

So pretty! I totally know what you mean about lace patterns. I’m really good at memorizing them usually, but there are some that just don’t click.

So fluffy and light! Very pretty.

Very pretty! And I know what you mean about knitting just clicking. But it turned out beautifully!

You know, everyone I hear about has trouble with mohair. I’ve yet to try knitting with it…but I’m beginning to be VERY afraid! :)
Still, it’s a gorgeous shawl and you should be very proud!
(((hugs)))

Even if it wasn’t your favorite piece to knit, it is a lovely shawl. How did you like the Elann mohair? I have used Madil Kid Seta and it’s the softest, lightest yarn I have even worked with - though you *absolutely* didn’t want to frog this stuff :) But I have been looking lustfully at the Elann yarn for a while now, wondering what it’s like.
The rythym thing? It doesn’t work that way for me (I tend to be a counter) but a dear friend finds rythyms in *everything* and utilizes them to facilitate whatever she’s doing at the moment, whether that’s cooking or playing World of Warcraft.
From the way she describes it to me, it sounds as though that’s the way you work as well. Coolness :)

Lovely! (And I never thought I’d say that about something with “moth” in the title.)
I do understand the rhythm thing. (Rhythm method?) Knitting, weaving, and especially spinning is kind of a meditation for me, and when I constantly have to stop to count or whatever, it breaks it for me. I do stop to count, though, because I am AR that way….

Luna is beautiful. Rhythm or no rhythm, you did a great job…it looks as if it’s about to float away! I am about to finish MS 3 and trying to decide on my next lace project (but lace may have to wait till I finish the current sweater and a gift scarf). Bzzzzzzzz is high on my list but I have yet to order the pattern. I will look forward to seeing your progress on it!

It’s a lovely Luna…. And I think the rhythm of the knitting is why I love lace so much–I find it very similar to reading music.

The ‘cloudy day’ comment is lost on me. I would say a cloudy day in Hawaii is still better than a sunny day here :o)
The shawl is pretty, it looks very delicate. Thanks for sharing.

What a gorgeous shawl! It looks so light and airy, I bet it feels wonderful on. I took a look at you next project and I can’t wait to see it.
Shelly on 24 Aug 2007 at 2:29 am #
WOW — It turned out great! Good job!! (even if it is Pink! LOL)
lobstah on 24 Aug 2007 at 9:50 am #
That is so delicate looking, just like moth wings, for real! And yes I know exactly what you mean about lace knitting rhythm. Some patterns you’re constantly checking the chart, feeling like something’s off, and other ones just totally flow.
Denise/CT on 24 Aug 2007 at 11:18 am #
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful! You have inspired me. Maybe as soon as I finish spinning this fiber up. I am hoping for 2 ply lace weight and if it is…..If not, off to order some Super Kydd myself.

The halo of the mohair is just perfect for this pattern. i understand the search for music. Some patterns just sing to you and hum in our soul.

The Luna is absolutely stunning. I am in awe! I wish I could do something like that. No ka `oi!!
