On Saturday, my friend Veronica came over for a Winding Party, because the tedium of winding yarn is always easier when you’re in the company of a good friend. I was only going to do a few skeins, but once Veronica departed I got to talking on the phone with Shelly.
After an extended conversation about life, the universe, and everything, I was able to wind all my sock yarn. Let’s not discuss or show any evidence of just how much yarn that is.
Fondling all that yarn and inhaling all the yarn fumes gave me a massive case of startitis. I had to remind myself of all the projects I already have on the needles. I had to look away from the beautiful patterns that seem to offer themselves up on a silver plate for me to try.
Surely I can wait a little longer before I cast on for another project. I’ve already finished one sock of the Cheveron Opal Socks. And I’m making good progress on the second sock.

While I’ve not been able to zoom through Clue 4 of the Mystery Stole 3, like I have with previous clues, I’m plodding along at a decent rate. I even have a little helper. Although how much a white cat can help with a black stole remains to be seen.

And all I have left to do with the Luna Moth is the blocking. Albeit, blocking is one of my least favorite activities of the whole lace project. I appreciate the magic that ensues, but really, all that crawling around on the floor in a hot room just isn’t my thing, but I don’t count this as finished until it’s been blocked.

I also managed to finish plying the Blue Colonial on the Suzie. I still need to skein the yarn on the bobbin and wash it before I can start knitting it. Only I don’t think starting another project, even if it’s with my own handspun, is my goal here.

As for the Forest Path Stole? I have to pick that up again when I finish the current MS3 clue. I’m on Tier 14 of 23 and I really don’t want to give up on it.
Let’s not forget that I also have the Gothic Spire Socks languishing in the wings too. They haven’t been touched in over a month now. Occasionally I hear sobbing in the vicinity of my knitting basket late at night. Perhaps I should rename them the Emo Socks.
So really, I have no time to be starting new projects when I have so much going on. But I sure got the itch! :-D

I love the sock.. it looks so cozy! The Luna Moth is going to look amazing when it’s all blocked.. I can’t wait to see it.

Nice sock – and you wound all your yarn? Wowsers!!
July 30th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
Great! Don’t give up … you’re half way through it … giving up now would be such a shame! ;)
July 30th, 2007 at 12:40 pm
Woohoo all wound! want to come do mine?
I can’t wait to see the Luna Moth blocked.
Keep knitting!

The cat looks very helpful – and the luna moth shawl, while unblocked, looks gorgeous. You can see its potential.
July 30th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
Your handspun looks so nice, if it wasn’t on a bobbin, I would have thought it was store bought. Luna Moth is gorgeous!!! I, too, am not fond of blocking, it will be well worth it and I can’t wait to see it all blocked. I love the white cat on the black shawl, I think you could enter that picture in a contest.

Dear Opal,
You have been a very busy woman! Your blue colonial looks wonderful! and I can’t wait to see Luna blocked though blocking and doing edging are not top of the list for my things to do on a weekend! I have to force myself not to start anything until I finish or I may never finish anything again so I feel for you. Just keep looking at all the great things you want to do and it will keep you going to finish. I know it does that for me. Everything looks really great and the cat helps a lot for morale:-)

My word, Opal. You are leaving all of us in the dust! All your sock yarn wound?!?! I am so envious. You are so organized, too. I still am an Opal wannabe.
July 30th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
Oh man I just finished clue 3, this week is my catch up week.
Don’t even remind me about the spinning I’m supposed to be doing…I completely forgot about it!
July 30th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
That Luna Shawl is going to be awesome. I enjoy seeing the end result of the process of blocking; but, I am with you, all that crawling around on the floor is for the birds.
July 30th, 2007 at 3:38 pm
We can’t convince you to show us all the yummy yarn cakes that you wound? Please?
I can’t wait to see that shawl blocked either!
July 30th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
Ha ha, Mary tries to help me with the knitting all the time too. Oooh, and the Luna Moth looks just like cotton candy.I want to hug it and pet it….
July 30th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
Love the handspun! What a beautiful color. I have been ignoring the plaintive cries of my spinning wheel, all the while buying more stuff to spin. Makes no sense.
July 30th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
I love your posts! I suppose we could have a blocking party… although I have nothing to block and may well distract you too much… but let me know anyways. :)
July 30th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
your projects look so great! can’t wait to see all the wound up sock yarn….
July 30th, 2007 at 10:44 pm
Miss Pressie just wants to help with the blocking when you’re ready :o)
Seriously, Opal, you’ve got quite a lot going on but I have faith that all will roll off the needles in due time to tremendous applause!
July 30th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
You wound all your sock yarn? I would be scared to do that to mine – and I would be doing what you are and fighting the urge to start something new. I love blocking – want to send me the shawl and I’ll do it for you?

I started winding my red laceweight for the Cap Shawl from VLT even though I REALLY shouldn’t actually start it until my Diamond Stole is finished. And Trinity. Oh, yeah, there’s the FPS, too. But I’m itching and my red yarn will at least be all ready for when I can’t stand it any more.

Oh, that Luna Moth is going to be something special, isn’t it?
I think your Opal sock is just lovely – comfy and free-spirited :)
Personally, I feel that startitis is one of the benifits (one among many!) of being a knitter. Some things go “zing” straight from start to finish. Other things loll around, languish and otherwise enjoy the scenery in their leisurely stroll to completion. And some turn out to be practice pieces and it can be useful to learn that you can’t stand that particular yarn for this particular pattern before committing to that acre of shawlage for your best friend’s wedding :)
That said, I’ve been tending to work one major project at a time for the last few months. I don’t know if I’m changing or if it’s just a phase. Doesn’t matter either – it’s all good!

All your sock yarn, really? Wanna do mine? (I think it would take me a week to wind up all of my sock yarn stash, lol.) I think white cat wants the black stole for nighttime prowling…
July 31st, 2007 at 7:47 am
oh my. I can’t wait to see Luna blocked! And that handspun? Hmmm….gorgeous.
NO, you’re right, you really don’t need to start anything else, but you know, neither did I and that’s didn’t stop me from getting going on Clapotis.
(There’s a photo up today! Just call me “enabler!”)
*wink*
(((hugs)))

Is it evil of me to secretly wish that you would post “evidence” of how much sock yarn?? I bet it the photos would be so pretty :D But I understand not wanting to self-incriminate, he he.
Luna moth looks amazingly gorgeous! And “emo” socks–you’re too funny!

Just checking in to see how you are doing on the FPS along….I think of you each time I pick mine up to knit. I have to say the silk was much easier to knit in Maui than it is here in CT, even with our summer humidity. The silk yarn didn’t seem as slick and I was able to knit much faster. Hum….
OH MY ! You’ve completed the Luna Moth Shawl? Is that the pink pretty I see in the blog? I am so looking forward to seeing that blocked out. I choose it as my Journey to a Shaw project. I am spinning my own yarn for it right now. I am looking forward to starting it in the next month. What yarn/fiber did you use? Oh, please get it blocked soon. I am so dieing to see it laid out and pinned.
I decided to knit some extra length to my MS3. I still have 5 rows to finish before Fridays new clue (and I didn’t even read HP). I’ll be thinking of you as I finish those rows and wonder if you’ve gotten back to FPS yet?

I can’t wait to see the Moth blocked. It looks so soft and delicate. That is a lovely color. And I hope your cat doesn’t like to knead shawls. It will be a stunner!
August 3rd, 2007 at 4:55 am
OK. Stop. Take a breath. You are making the rest of us (re: me) look like slackers.
It all looks great. Bogey is not much of helper, for me, in my fiber activities, though.

Hmm…you know, after seeing the final clue today, I’d been considering just ripping out my stole and using the materials for something I’d like better. I am on Clue 2 still, so it would not have been as great a loss for me–but I’ve invested enough in the project that I certainly *don’t* want to see more of my energy go to something I won’t like.
But after seeing what yours looks like at Clue 4, maybe I’ll relent and finish it in a mirrored version. I don’t want to knit another half and kitchener together, but I’m thinking of literally turning the charts upside-down and continuing that way past the halfway point. It looks like a beautiful design–I just prefer something symmetrical. ;)

Finish the shawls, finish them, they are already so gorgeous, just think of yourself wrapped in them!
