Weekend Shenanigans

Posted under cats & shawls

Once again, when I started knitting the weekly installment of the Mystery Stole 3, I could not stop until there was I there was nothing left to knit. So here we have the stole finished up to the second clue.

The reason it might be knitting up so fast could be because the beading makes it so fun. All I want to do is zip along till I get to a row where I can insert the sparkly beads. Beautiful, shiny beads.

I feel that it bears repeating that the charts Melanie provides are extraordinarily easy to follow. There’s no squinting involved with the original size of the charts, which means you can use them straight off the printer. Also, if you weren’t able to join before the group closed to new members, the pattern will be available to all come September or October.

It’s back to the Forest Path Stole for me now. I’m about to start Tier 13, so I am making some progress. It’s becoming less of a chore now as I’m starting to build a rhythm.

Quincy has also bee having a bit of fiber fun. The other morning I woke up to this on the floor of my kitchen.

Luckily this is just leftover yarn. If it had been for an ongoing project or even worse, if this had been a project on the needles, then I would be probably be in the hospital due to a massive coronary. As it was, I was pretty aghast at the sight of such beautiful yarn strewn about with such blatant disregard.

Did I mention that this yarn was safely hidden in the bottom of one of my baskets? And that I have acrylic yarn in plain view for his playing pleasure if he so desires? But no, this boy is a yarn snob. He went hunting for the Socks That Rock.

Of course I chastised him by holding the yarn up to him and repeating “bad boy” etc. etc. This is the look he gave me. You can decide for yourselves as to whether or not he was properly repentant.

Mommy, I didn’t get into your yarn. Honest, I didn’t. Look how cute I am. Would I do a thing like that? No, not me. I’m just your darling little kitty.

All Quincy can hear is “Blah, Blah, Blah, Sox That Rock, Blah Blah”. By waiving it in his furry face he thinks you are telling him that this is the only yarn worth playing with. Of course. If you play with it,he thinks it’s ok for him to play with it too:-) The stole is looking just beautiful. I may have to just get that one later. Beautiful knitting on your part. Are you adding the beads with a crochet hook or did you have to pre-string?

Repentant, no. Pleased with himself, yes! ;) Your MS3 is gorgeous. I’m procrastinating, per usual…

Your progress and prowess astound me. And Quincy? Well, that boy has the “cat who ate the canary” grin all over him but he’s darn cute!

  5. Agnes on 08 Jul 2007 at 1:10 pm #

The boy has taste … so you should forgive him … and hide the good yarns in super secret places! LOL!
I have also finished Clue 2 … yes, it was such fun! Have you seen the Flickr group pool? It is great fun to see the various version of the project too!

Still waiting for my yarn… then I shall disappear into the den of Wool Room and knit until I catch up :) (can’t wait!)
I interpret Quincy’s look as, “Ooo, look, the wool-worm is still alive! Oh, no, She is mad that I didn’t kill it fully! Must get on that later…”
Or at least that’s how Hannah seems to take my scoldings.

  7. Debi on 08 Jul 2007 at 1:30 pm #

He’s calmly plotting overtaking the world! STR included! The crossed feet are a dead giveaway :)

As for Quincy- what a good mommy you are to teach him the difference between good yarn and not so good yarn!! Oh you should be so proud of him- choosing the socks that rock over acrylic!

I’ll be waiting for the pattern to be available so I can put it in my rather long queue. It is very pretty!

    Definitely a yarn snob :-)

Mmm, repentant, no. Smug? Do I detect smug?

  13. Elinor on 08 Jul 2007 at 4:20 pm #

LOL. Repentant? A cat? Are you kidding me??? Of course he isn’t. :-) Good thing it wasn’t your pretty stole!!!

  14. Jenny Raye on 08 Jul 2007 at 5:30 pm #

“Who, me?” Repentant, not so much.

Love MS3–hope to get a start after SnB tomorrow night.

His look definitely says “who me?”. Too cute - and you know he’s going to do it again - at least he has good taste! Mystery shawl is just gorgeous!

that cat is too cute for his own good. hide the yarn. there ain’t no stoppin’ him!

man, i could just kick myself for not joining mystery stole!

  19. desiknitter on 09 Jul 2007 at 12:51 am #

    No, not repentant at all!

  20. Robbyn on 09 Jul 2007 at 3:29 am #

Cats never repent, apologize or experience remorse of any kind. It’s against their religion :)

Your mystery project is coming along splendidly - I do like that beading. I wonder how their weight will affect the drape of the garment…

  21. textillian on 09 Jul 2007 at 3:49 am #

Must give Quincy credit for bypassing the decoy and going right after the good stuff in the basket. Is Quincy the cat equivalent of a bloodhound, but for yarn?

The shawl is great. I understand what you mean about working on it until just to get to the beads. I am pretty much the same way about cables.

  22. Dee on 09 Jul 2007 at 4:14 am #

There is no repentence on that boy’s face. LOL

He’s looking to get into more trouble.

  23. knittingphilistine on 09 Jul 2007 at 5:40 am #

Gorgeous stole! I just can’t seem to get into the swing of knitting lace… those charts, ack, those charts! Where are my single socks? That’s where true happiness lies… ;)

And look at the deviousness in those kitty eyes!!

  24. Meredith on 09 Jul 2007 at 7:43 am #

Quincy has TASTE. My Wilhemina cat used to steal yarn. Now she just sniffs at the bags longingly, but she hasn’t done a stash excavation for a while. Maybe it’s maturity, but I suspect I’m just better at concealment.

Quincy gets more beautiful every day. That boy!

I, too, finished my MS3 Clue 2…not till Saturday, though. Now it’s back to the pink thing and the red glove again.

    hugggggggssssssssss

    mm

  25. lobstah on 09 Jul 2007 at 8:46 am #

Oh man, I am loving that design more and more as I see it slowly being churned out! Might have to make it someday…
Quincy doesn’t look very repentant to me, but he’s so cute I think you should forgive him!

  26. Susan Pandorf on 09 Jul 2007 at 9:41 am #

I’m sorry. Quincy is clearly declaring his innocence. Look at those wide innocent eyes, the totally relaxed innocent posture, the genteel innocent crossed paws, the pastoral innocent contemplation of the world outside his window, the rapt innocent focus on every word that falls from your lips…

    Cats lie.

  27. Maddie on 09 Jul 2007 at 11:11 am #

Oh my! It’s looking so GREAT! I can’t wait to be that far done with mine! Sadly, I haven’t even gotten through the first clue yet (I like to dawdle, but I AM catching up!). But it sure is nice to know what’s coming next looking at your blog. Any ideas what it’s suppose to be of? Keep up the fantastic work!

  28. Hattie on 09 Jul 2007 at 12:58 pm #

Are you kidding, cats are never ever sorry.

It’s looking beautiful! I need to get going on clue 2, I haven’t done more than look at the chart lol.

  29. Dipsy D. on 09 Jul 2007 at 9:53 pm #

Oh my gosh, this stole is coming along so beautifully! It must be so exciting to knit it while not knowing what the next step is going to be! And well - I have to agree with Hattie here, I’ve never met a cat so far that was sorry ;)

  30. Laughingrat on 11 Jul 2007 at 12:29 pm #

He looks utterly unapologetic, just like Leland after we swat at him and yell “BAD BOY!” when he hassles our old lady cats.

Your shawl looks great–I’m still on Clue 1, d’oh! Oh, I forgot to say “Nice hat!” on the next post, so: Nice hat!
