Savor The Sock

I spent a fairly quiet holiday. We stayed in and watched Wire In The Blood, Season 1, which was outstanding. I got another tier done on the Forest Path Stole, but it’s at that stage where pictures would be too boring. It’s basically just more of the same and so is the knitting. To say it makes boring blog fodder would be an understatement. For all that, I really am enjoying it.

I also battled with the spinning wheel. I haven’t touched it since my last desktop died and somehow the tension was completely off. So i kept ending up with a tangled massive mess of yarn. It was too ugly to document.

Somehow I managed to get it right and I put in a half hour of plying. Once I get the current bobbin filled I’ll take more pictures. Even though I’ve already got 3 shawls/stoles on the needles, I might even start knitting it up!

Of course I also have a sock on the needles. Of course I do. I’m almost finished with the first sock and although it can be rather dull to show the first sock followed by a finished pair. After all, once you’ve seen the first sock, you’ve basically seen the pair. I thought I’d share it anyway.

I’m using Regia Bamboo, color no. 1064. I picked up this yarn when Woodland Woolworks had that fabulous 20% off sale awhile back. This yarn is absolutely delicious. It just flows off the needles and through my hands.

This is such a busy yarn, I wanted to choose a pattern that was simple and streamlined so I chose the Slipped Stitch Rib from the book Sensational Knitted Socks. I just love love love the texture it creates. Combine it with the silky feel of the yarn and you have a winning combination.

All of this makes me want to exclusively knit this project, but I want to savor this experience and enjoy the process. So I dole out the time I have with it, like you would ration the pieces of a box of good chocolates. At least I would. ;-)

Quincy is also luxuriating in the simple joys of life.

The texture really does justice to the yarn. Good choice. I am proud of you tackling the FLP shawl.

Hey, maybe that’s my problem. I can’t eat just one chocolate at a time. Nor can I have just one project going at a time. Nor can I purchase just one skein of sock yarn at a time. I envy you your self control!!!! Quincy is a doll.

  5. Debi Says:

OMG Quincy is huge! He almost looks like a kitty man already! What a handsome dude!

Love the sock too! Never tried Regia bamboo yet, have a skein in stash tho :)

If you need blog fodder you can always show your Knails :) (go see my blog!)

Quincy is looking so grown up! What a big handsome boy…and the socks are really nice, too! Hmmmmmmmm…maybe I shouldn’t have been so virtuous when WW had their sock yarn sale. That’s really nice looking yarn!

Nice new socks. And it is good to hear that progress is being made on the shawl. Sounds like someone deserves some chocolate…

I tell ya’, does that cat know how to live, or what?

We should all be so relaxed. Of course, then nothing would get accomplished and we would all be peeing in sand boxes because the guy who invented indoor plumbing would have been napping in the sun, instead of coming up with a better way to live.

    I’m just sayin’…

    Blessings!

That Quincy …he certainly is photogenic.

You are taking the summer of sock knitting very seriously. I love SKS, I am using it for my Sockapalooza socks, the patterns are great. I am looking forward to seeing the shawls and the spinning; but I am all about lace in the summer.

Your sock is coming along so beautifully – I can well imagine that the Regia Bamboo is heaven to work with! Gosh, I need to get myself a few skeins of that one too! ;) Very beautiful colorway!
And my, I so love Quincy, what a cute little furry face – and he’s definitely photogenic!

it was nice meeting with you and the rest of the group and seeing your sock in person – are you finished yet?

  15. Jeanne Says:

I love that pattern – it is always nice to knit and always turns out well. No pictures of your spinning?

  16. Jane Says:

The simple pattern you choose works really well to showcase the yarn for your sock. Very very pretty. I know the feeling of not wanting to post the in-progress work sometimes but once you get a little be more done it would still be nice to see for those of us in the peanut gallery! As for Quincy, he makes it all look so good that I have decided to come back as a cat in the Islands as my next life.

  17. Jenny Raye Says:

The sock and yarn look great with that pattern from SKS.

I for one never tire of seeing one finished sock and then the pair–accompanied by lots of details, of course.

  18. Roseann Says:

Great picture of Quincy, what a cutie! How does the Regia Bamboo yarn compare to the Pronatura yarn (I thought you had some in your stash)? I like the look of the bamboo yarn, it is very pretty. I’m glad your spinning “clicked” for you and understand your desire to cast-on immediately. Isn’t knitting with your own handspun the best?

Your Mystery Stole 3 is already gorgeous! I hope the Gothic Spire works out with the second try, but I also like the current SIP. : )

  20. Asaknitter Says:

That is beautiful yarn and it matches the pattern perfect.

Ration the chocolates?! Have you gone mad?! (Just kidding Opal, I don’t always look like a chipmunk when I eat chocolate!) Glad you are enjoying your Regia so much–I have a ball of that in diff color–maybe I should use that for my first pair of socks….:)

  22. desiknitter Says:

Quincy is a cutie! You are really cranking out the socks!!

  23. Robbyn Says:

What neat, sort of semi-autumn colors in that yarn! And the rib pattern does wonderfully well with it – both ribs and yarn showing to good advantage.

Do you…um…have a little dresser or bureau just for your socks (which I think would be terribly cool, BTW)?

  24. Kimberly from Some Bunny's Love Says:

I really like how the simple pattern shows off that pretty yarn! (sigh) I need to cast on my FPS. :(

    =:8

This is funny. I like to read Nova’s blog. She linked to your blog so I followed of course. I see you mentioned Woodland Woodworks. I live in Carlton where they are. I was just shopping their markdown room. What a small world!

    Cute cat.
