I had a very relaxing and pleasant weekend. I watched three movies, two of which were good (Pan’s Labyrinth and Ghost Rider) and one of which was rather strange and boring (Harsh Times). When I wasn’t watching movies I was sucked into a marathon of Deadliest Catch, no thanks to Shelly I might add.

All of this added up to a goodly amount of knitting time. All of which I spent knitting my latest pair of socks.
I’m using another pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks, this time it’s the Baby Cable Rib. And once again I dived into my precious stash of one-of-a-kind Opal yarn. I’m really going to miss this stuff once it’s all gone.

Much to my amazement, I was actually able to finish the first sock last night. At least I left it with only the grafting left to do and I went to bed at my normal hour.
I’m calling these Summer Skies. The blues remind me of the pretty skies of Hawaii, the yellow of the shining sun, and the greys are reminiscent of the clouds that linger atop the Ko’oalu Range.

What better way to launch the advent of the Summer of Socks then with a pair of Summer Skies?

your collection of Opal is great… I’m quite jealous of both the yarn and the amount of sock knitting you’ve done recently!

Beautiful sock. I enjoyed Pan’s Labyrinth as well.
(Still haven’t gotten to House, but I’ll be watching last week’s and tonight’s Closer sometime this week!)

I swear all these socks are tempting me to learn to knit.. Are socks a good choice for a beginner?

Absolutely beautiful sock! I watched Pans Labyrinth as well and I thought it was very interesting and visually arresting. A nice relaxing weekend. Sounds lovely. You deserve a little R&R.

You ripped through that ribbed cable, my dear! Another gorgeous sock from the Opal collection :-)

Yeah that show gets addicting. It sounds stupid, till you watch it and are sucked in. It’s amazing! Love the sock, I’ve always loved the baby cable stitch.

you liked pan’s labyrinth? i was rather…wow. it was sensory overload. i was screaming at the girl at some parts (like when she ate the grape) and grossed out (like during the torture scenes) and wondering whether or not to trust the faun thing…but yah…i guess i liked it. now that i think about it. makes me want to learn spanish.

Very pretty socks! Baby cable is my standby pattern – I do it when I want something but don’t want to deal with following a complicated pattern…

Very pretty. You are having a very productive week.

Lovely socks, as always, and *very* appropriately named.
Of course I went and looked up the Ko’oalu Range, starting with your link and moving on from there…wouldn’t I love to see that in person! Probably never happen, but a girl can dream… :)

You are a knitting demon. I love the yarn and the pattern.

Okay so now I feel better that DH and I aren’t the only nuts out there that get sucked into the all day marathon vortex known as deadliest catch.
June 26th, 2007 at 5:22 am
Deadliest Catch is almost as addictive as sock yarn :)
Love the baby cables!

Beautiful. Those were quick, too!

They are truly lovely and you are off to a good start for the Summer of Socks.

I am planning to use my Schaefer Anna yarn for this pattern. You knitted yours up very quickly! What size needles and how many stitches did you cast-on? Having your info will help me to determine what I will need for mine. That is a beautiful sock!

Another triumph of sock knitting! The colors are really lovely.

Nice socks!! I am amazed at how you crank ‘em out. I love “Sensational Knitted Socks” – it’s the sock bible in my opinion.
What did you think of Pan’s Labyrinth? Some folk I know found it too dark and violent to be enjoyable, but I fell right into that world, and had a hard time crawling out. I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days after I saw it, and went around in a teary funk, the likes of which hadn’t been seen since I saw “The Constant Gardener”

I like these… looks like the ribbing would fit around your leg nicely and stay in place!

[...] Last night it dawned on me that I might not have enough yarn to complete the second sock of the Summer Skies. When I asked Kai for her advice, at the weekly Aloha Knitters meeting, she tried to prepare me for the eventuality that I might end up with a toe of a different colour as a design element. Eek. [...]
