I was lucky enough to get my new Toshiba a few months before everything went Vista-happy. It's a great little laptop so far. A friend just bought a Macbook and is utterly in love with it, so I reckon there's still non-Vista possibilities. ;)

Those socks look fun! Opal is such a nice sock yarn. Me personally, when I do socks on size 1 needles, I always stop at 32 sts for the toe. I have blocky little feet, though, so I guess I appreciate the extra room, too.

That's such a sweet picture of Quincy!!

As for Vista... since it's a new machine, Vista would probably be okay. Things tend to be more buggy when you upgrade from XP on the same machine. Leastways that's my experience.

The socks are gorgeous! So was it an experimental color from Opal then? (Hence the random striping...)

Dell is a good way to go! Try looking on QVC.com, sometimes you can get better deals on there. If I ever get a pc, it is going to be a dell.

I bought a new Dell laptop about two months ago; it took a few days to get used to Vista, but it doesn't seem so bad any more. Good luck getting what you want; if you time it right you can really get a good deal on Dell if you search for coupons and things online (thanks Google).

Let me know how the begging for XP goes. I want to do the same on a laptop for Math Guy for college. The college is still recommending XP over Vista.
