Black Rainbow Socks

No matter how much I wanted to drag this project out, I just couldn’t stop knitting. So here we have the completed Black Rainbow Socks.

As you can see the stripes don’t exactly match, but I did try! The colour runs are uneven and while I was knitting them that really annoyed me. Once I got the finished socks on my feet I really didn’t mind, because they fit like a dream.

Pattern: Slipped Stitch Rib by Charlene Schurch in Sensational Knitted Socks

Needles: size 1US or 2.25mm (2 circulars)

Yarn: Opal sock yarn – one of a kind colourway

Started: June 4, 2007

Finished: June 13, 2007

The most daring thing I did with these socks was stop decreasing the toes at 16 stitches (32 stitches total). I’m really happy with the results, as my arthritic toes enjoy a roomier toe. I also added a few rows of plain stockinette after the decreases to add some length to the toe since the decrease rows weren’t as lengthy as they would have been had I decreased until only 18 total stitches were left.

In other news, I have decided to purchase a new Dell computer once I get the funds together. Well, I also need to decide on which model to get and what components to buy, etc. Being the indecisive careful deliberator that I am, it might take awhile before the actual purchase takes place. I do plan on calling them and begging asking them if they can install XP on a machine for me. If not, I’m prepared to give Vista a shot.

Finally, I caught Quincy in a contemplative mood. I wonder what he’s thinking up.

Those socks are really pretty! I like leaving a less-pointy toe, too.

Quimcy is so very handsome. I liked that last picture of his almost-argyle belly. :)

Your Black Rainbow socks look so comfy. I know you were stressing about them not being identical but you needn’t have worried. They worked out perfectly.

And cutie-pie Quincy thinks so too :o)

I was just doing specs for a dell Tuesday, and XP was an option listed at the beginning. Maybe it’s a laptop/desktop thing?

I think Quincy is wondering if his nudey pictures are going to wind up all over the web like Pamela Lee Anderson’s

    Poor thing…he has no idea!

Quicy is thinking what all cats think:

    1. Where is the kitchen-wench with my supper OR

    2. World domination is within my reach.

Those are lovely Opal socks, Opal! (Sorry I couldn’t resist that!). Beautiful colourway, even if they don’t quite match.

Beautiful socks! I am jealous. I want that sock yarn!

There is some information on buying computers from Dell here:

It might help you in timing your purchase and getting a discount.

Love the socks – I wish this wasn’t a one of a kind colorway! Quincy is thinking about his nap schedule for the next few days….good luck ordering your computer!

Love the socks! They really are beautiful colors. And I like that the stripes don’t match up exactly–they look handmade and not manufactured!

  18. Roseann Says:

WOW!!! You finished those socks fast! They look great, very artsy, like you had plannned the stipes that way. I wonder what is going through Quincy’s mind, almost like he is imagining what is for dinner, very sweet.

I love the rippling colours in this sock – I can see why they’re called Rainbow socks.

Let me know how the begging for XP goes. I want to do the same on a laptop for Math Guy for college. The college is still recommending XP over Vista.

I bought a new Dell laptop about two months ago; it took a few days to get used to Vista, but it doesn’t seem so bad any more. Good luck getting what you want; if you time it right you can really get a good deal on Dell if you search for coupons and things online (thanks Google).

  22. Hattie Says:

Dell is a good way to go! Try looking on QVC.com, sometimes you can get better deals on there. If I ever get a pc, it is going to be a dell.

That’s such a sweet picture of Quincy!!

As for Vista… since it’s a new machine, Vista would probably be okay. Things tend to be more buggy when you upgrade from XP on the same machine. Leastways that’s my experience.

The socks are gorgeous! So was it an experimental color from Opal then? (Hence the random striping…)

  24. Laughingrat Says:

I was lucky enough to get my new Toshiba a few months before everything went Vista-happy. It’s a great little laptop so far. A friend just bought a Macbook and is utterly in love with it, so I reckon there’s still non-Vista possibilities. ;)

Those socks look fun! Opal is such a nice sock yarn. Me personally, when I do socks on size 1 needles, I always stop at 32 sts for the toe. I have blocky little feet, though, so I guess I appreciate the extra room, too.
