Cheer

Posted under socks

If there’s one thing I needed this week it was cheer. One thing that cheered me up was last night’s Aloha Knitter’s meeting. The ladies there were wonderfully supportive. Keohinani was there with her cheery ripple afghan. Thanks to her and Lisa, I’ve become seriously tempted by the ripple. So far I’ve been resisting the call, since I have no yarn appropriate for such a project.

Instead, I’ve been concentrating on knitting a pair of excessively cheery socks. The yarn is so loud they make my eyes bleed. See for yourself.

The yarn is Opal Handpaint, Colour No. 20. I decided to use the Monkey pattern with it, but the pattern definitely competes with the yarn and I probably would have been better off sticking with something simpler like Jaywalker. But I love the Monkey pattern and I’m enjoying the knitting so much that I find I don’t really care how the socks look. Isn’t that what really counts when you get right down to it?

Absolutely! If you are enjoying the knitting, that counts for everything. I think the socks are great. They would like terrific with pink crocs. Sometimes you just have to make a statement.

Love the socks! Great colors and of course, great pattern. I think as long as it makes you happy to make it (and you are willing to wear it!) go for it….have a great weekend!

    Dear Opal,
I’m a big fan of loud socks so your new ones look great to me! As for ripple stitch projects, I think they look wonderful but I get bored knitting them. Keep on knitting cheerful socks for as long as you want too! Everyone needs and loves sox.

That is exactly what counts! They’re your socks so if you find them enormously cheerful, and the act of knitting them (in *whatever* pattern) make you happy then GO for it :)

And I must say, that’s an exceptionally and wonderfully merry yarn!

I’ve had some pattern vs. variegated yarn competitions, but with your socks, you can see both the pattern and the yarn. I look forward to seeing them completed. Delightfully vibrant colors, a nice little lift for your spirits.

Those colors are super cheery and spring-like; what a great pick! It makes me want to go find some bright yarn to play with…

I like loud socks, so yours are great! (Of course, I also like sedate socks; I’m just a sock person, I guess.) Glad they’re cheering you up!

I LOVE the cheery socks!!! And your friend’s ripple afghan, too! Colorful is what’s needed in my part of the world, with our gray skies, high winds, and downpours!
    Rain, rain, go away!
    (((hugs)))

I think the pattern shows up pretty well, considering how busy the color changes are…I think they are quite successful! And I love the color combo, too. Great socks. And DEFINITELY cheery!
