Comfort

Posted under socks

There’s nothing like knitting a pair of warm wool socks with a cat by my side to comfort my soul and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. Last night I finished re-knitting the too small Mona sock, thus finishing the first pair of handknit socks for my mother.

Pattern: Mona by Cookie A.

Yarn: Essential in Dusk by Knitpicks (the colour in the detail picture is more accurate then in the top shot)

Needles: Size 1 and Size 0 Knitpicks Classic Circulars

Started: March 22, 2007

Finished: April 11, 2007

As usual, Cookie A. has provided a stellar patten that I thoroughly enjoyed knitting up. Her charts are wonderful and her design is fluid. The only thing I changed was the needle size as I closed in on the ankle for a snugger fit.

I wasn’t too impressed with the yarn. Although it’s soft, it does tend to split too much. I also have the feeling that it will start to pill rather quickly as well, though I certainly hope that that’s not the case.

I want to thank everyone for the great show of support this past week. It’s been a tough week and I’m still struggling to get back to normal, but it’s been made easier thanks to all of you.

Good job on the sox even if you were not that fond of the yarn. I’m sure you mom will love them.

I’m getting the same feeling about the Essential that I’m working with right now. Really soft, but splitty and sticky and fuzzing. But so soft!

They are pretty socks, though, and I’m glad to hear that you’re getting on alright.

But of course gorgeous again! Today is Thursday isn’t it? We had a staff retreat today and have to eat out together tonight… darn I’m missing another knittting night!

They are great socks. I have that exact yarn to knit the German Stocking pattern, and I was glad to see how soft it is compared to the Essential yarn I bought from them a little over a year ago. (Used to feel plastic-y and rough.) So perhaps they’ll fix the splittiness too, eventually. For the price, though, I think it’s not so bad.
You really did do a great job with that pattern, your mom will love them!

Did you bring these tonight? Did I miss their outing? Nice work…you really whipped these out!

Lovely, Opal. And good therapy, too. I do love Cookie’s patterns, and you execute them so well. Support continues for you, you know that. Continuing to knit and relax and knit some more will help, too. Good thoughts are coming your way.

BEAUTIFUL socks. There’s nothing like a kitty by your side while you knit to help heal wounds, is there? Lucy and I send you cyber-hugs!

Beautiful socks! I made a pair of socks from Essential - I’m not sure I liked it because it was scratchy, but they haven’t pilled yet.

Knitting with a cat nearby is the best. Lovely socks.

Great socks! I have got to get more of Ms. Cookie A.’s patterns–especially the Mona and the Twisted Flower! I haven’t used Essential yet but will give it a try sometime. I like KP’s “Memories” line but find it rather pilly, but cushy soft. Pressy looks very content by her scratchy thing. You really have your sock mojo working, Opal!

I bet your Mom is thrilled by those socks. You are right, of course, knitting and cats are both great therapy

I get very wistful when you talk about knitting with a cat by your side. We have our first indoor kitty in over 20 years and she is an absolute terror!!!! She steals my year, bats and bites at moving hands and toes and jumps over the back of my chair to land on the table and knock off my chart!!!! Soon, please say she will soon be a pleasure sitting at my side.

Verrrrry nice! How many balls of Essential did they take? I have two in that very color residing in my stash.

Lovely socks, your mother is lucky. And I have to drop by Cookie’s side, yhat’s a new place for me.
And cheering is good for all of us. Hug

Your Mona socks came out beautifully!!! They are so pretty. I appreciate your yarn review info, very helpful. I hope each day it gets a little easier, I know these are some difficult days for you.
