I’m sorry to say that we had to give Bosco back to his original owners today. They returned from a three week vacation. We tried to hold on to him stating that they had abandoned him, but they called the police. The police said that the neighbors had a good case of theft against us if we were determined to keep him. Needless to say we didn’t want to take it that far. What did the neighbors have to say for themselves? She said she kept the window open and that she had left enough food and water for him for the duration of their vacation.

Ah man, that sucks. I wish you could get compensated somehow….
How did they know you had him anyways?
So sorry dear! :(

3 weeks? THREE WEEKS???!!??? And they “left the window open…” For dog’s sake… that’s tanamount to animal abuse in some places. I’m sure they meant well, but you HAVE to have someone stop by to check on your pets, at least! Otherwise, your pets *may* go find someone else to help them… Really, it’s not like you went to their house and took their cat - he sought out your help because he felt abandoned.
Poor Bosco. I hope he pees in their shoes. And then comes back to you.

I am so pissed right now. I need to hold my tongue (err fingers) because if I let go I would have a major rant right now!
I wonder..how can your neighbors PROVE that Bosco is theres? Do they have papers? I would have said they stole the cat from me!
So wrong, so terribly wrong.
If I had a child I left for three weeks, and my excuse was that I left a “window open with food and water” what would the cops have said then?
But oh wait, it’s just a cat, so it’s not the same…whatever.
If they give you any more grief about this, just remind them you could have left well enough alone..and when there cat got hit by a car, you could have left his remains on their doorstep as a welcome home gift.
In fact, I would remind her if she did something like this again, her feline friend will probably disappear (pets go missing every day, never to be heard from again..you may not be able to keep the cat, but I am sure you could find him a loving home..he is a cutie after all.)
I am sorry, I guess some of the rant I was trying to hold back came out anyway. But understand this is only about 5% of what I would Like to say.
That sucks hard core.
Maybe she will be one of those people that dies in her house, and no one thinks to look for her, and when they find her..she will have gnawed on parts because Bosco was hungry. I know that is horrible..but it is what people like that deserve!

So sorry to hear about Bosco. I hope their house is full of roaches and ants from the food they left out!

Some people don’t deserve to have pets!! You did your good deed for Bosco, sad that you can’t keep him! Maybe he’ll become so miserable they’ll GIVE him to you :)

what heartache….i’m so sorry for you and most of all for bosco. hope the week brings happier times your way…..
Agnes on 08 Apr 2007 at 10:38 pm #
Oh … I am so sorry! You must be heartbroken! Well, I’m sure Bosco loves you more than them … so, he’ll be back. You can also let the windows open … and if Bosco decides to stay, you can’t force him.

I’m so sorry! That’s just terrible - I don’t know how you leave pets alone for three weeks like that. Hopefully Bosco will continue to visit you and just start staying for longer and longer….

My heart is broken for you, Opal. I’m so sorry. Those people should be made to take classes on how to care for a pet. Three weeks??? To me that is abandonment, not a vacation. You can take some comfort in the knowledge that for a little while Bosco new what is was like to live in a loving, caring environment. He knows now that not all humans are totally brain dead like his owners. I’m hoping that you can maintain contact with the little fellow. I am so terribly sorry. Major hugs to you all.

No freaking WAY!
I am so sorry that you’ve had to give that dear boy back to those ghastly people! Three weeks? I just cannot fathom it.
You did the right thing taking Bosco into your home when he was obviously abandoned. It is a shame that he now has to live with a family that doesn’t care enough about him to make sure he is taken care of when they toddle off on a three week vacation. Don’t regret what you did for him. Maybe he’ll be back. Cats often choose their families. My bet is that he will choose you.

I’m so sorry. They don’t deserve Bosco. I can’t believe that someone would think it’s allright to leave a cat for three weeks with some food left out. That’s horrible. I have a feeling that Bosco will still be visiting you regularly. Cats have a way of choosing where they want to live.
Flaim on 09 Apr 2007 at 3:13 am #
That’s just horrible! You have just a good a case for abandonment as they do for theft, even more. They have no right to leave for 3 weeks and not have someone catsitting! I’m sorry you have such horrible neighbors. :(
Lisa on 09 Apr 2007 at 3:13 am #
Losers! I hope he craps and pees all over their house! (and maybe hacks up a giant hairball right on someone’s pillow)
Hugs sweetie!

I am appalled!!! They abandonned their cat for 3 weeks, isn’t that animal cruelty?!? I pay my petsitters very well to come and take care of our pets. I’m sorry for your family getting attached to Bosco only to have him ripped out of your home. I think at the very least they should reimburse you for the veterinarian visit, these are irresponsible, despicable people!
Lemma on 09 Apr 2007 at 4:44 am #
Those weasles! Some people just shouldn’t have pets. They obviously don’t think much of theirs.
Aside from the leaving the cat with no one to check on it for three weeks, they kept the window open the whole time?! Was there rain? Did they get robbed? They do not sound like particularly smart people.
desiknitter on 09 Apr 2007 at 5:28 am #
Oh what losers! Am really sorry about this. Like someone said, I hope he pees in their shoes. I’m curious, did the police say anything to them about just leaving for three weeks? And what’s with leaving the window open for three weeks? Never mind the cat, weren’t they worried about being robbed?
Jane on 09 Apr 2007 at 6:23 am #
I’m so sorry you couldn’t keep Bosco. I know you care a great deal for him. The people who left him to fend for himself do not deserve him but the law is not on your side this time. Sometimes the law of the land sucks. Still, I hope there is Karmic Pay-back for what they did. I know Bosco appreciated your love and care in any case. You did the right thing in taking him into your heart and home even if it was only temporary.
Kat on 09 Apr 2007 at 7:48 am #
Yeah, what everyone else said!
I cannot imagine leaving my house for three days, much less three WEEKS without making arrangements for my cat, and he’s purely an outdoor cat (he’s MUCH happier as an outside cat, trust me! He never adjusted to being in indoor kitty.)
What would they have done if poor Bosco had ended up at the pound???
What morons.
I’m so sorry that Bosco can’t be a part of your household, and I’m pretty sure Bosco is bummed, too. :-(
Robbyn on 09 Apr 2007 at 7:57 am #
I’m really sorry to hear that Opal - I know how fond you had become of the little guy. At the very least, you should charge them for cat-sitting for three weeks!
People! Humph….
Shelly on 09 Apr 2007 at 9:44 am #
Big Hugs Opal - they truely have no idea how much your taking him in saved his life.
I do hope you will keep an eye on him- and if he is left again- call the authorities. dang them. They have no right to a precious sweetheart like him. I certainly hope their concience bothers them alot.
Hugs on the rest of the week.

Opal,
I’m so sorry for you. Just know that there is a special place in heaven for people like you (and maybe report your horrid neighbors to the SPCA.)

Sorry for Bosco. The first think I blurted out was “What the F’in Hill?” Tonight I talked a family out of getting a rabbit, especially when the mother admitted that the little girl would lose her temper if the “cute little bunny” won’t cuddle with her when she wanted it to do so!! AUUUGH.
Folks like his owners should be tarred, feathered, and spayed/neutered!

THREE WEEKS?!?! “I left him enough food.” What kind of BS is that? What if he overate and ran out, or some other animal(s) set up residence because she left the window open and ate all the food? What psychotic logic that neighbor of yours has. REALLY upset for you. Grr…

I looked at the Hawaii Island Animal Control website (there should be one for Oahu). They suggest contacting the Humane Society for abandoned pets, and the Police non-emergency line for Animal Cruelty. It is illegal to abandon an animal (although I don’t know about the law when the animal is abandoned on their own property). They also offer confidential advice if you have questions about animal cruelty. It might be good to have an official complaint on register with the Police and the Humane society: Any further violations on the pet-owners part will be met with their history of abuse.
I’m so sorry about Cookie. You have my best wishes. Bless you for loving your animals and being a great pet-mommy!

That’s terrible! (And there’s no way they could have left enough water for THREE weeks!) If they leave the window open again, I’m sure he’ll turn up at your place.
