A New Day

I think I’ve broken the Sock Curse. I was able to finish the Jaywalkers on Sunday, but with one caveat. Despite the decreases I made, they are just a bit saggy. Look at the excess fabric rippling out.

They still feel good on the feet and as you can see the sagging isn’t a complete disaster.

Project specifications are as follows:

Started: 3/1/07

Finished: 4/1/07

Yarn: Socks That Rock in Mist

Needles: Size 1 Knitpicks Classic Circulars

Modifications: I decreased for the ankle, but otherwise left the pattern alone.

Despite my initial misgivings, I really enjoyed this pattern and I will definitely use it again. I like how simple it is and how it compliments the hand-dyed yarn. It’s a great project to take along when running errands and it works wonderfully when at the Aloha Knitters meetings.

More good news! Cookie is home!

Despite the sad and worried face, she is quite happy to be back. I still have to take a trip back to the doctor with her today to learn how to give her subcutaneous shots of fluids. We will have to do that for about a week. Honestly, the whole idea is scaring me silly but I’m willing to do anything for her.

I should also add that, much to Cookie’s dismay, Bosco has been utterly fascinated with her since she arrived home. I’ve been trying to run interference, but I think that I should ultimately let them settle it between themselves.

The cat drama doesn’t stop there either. Pressie is at the doctor today to get her claws checked out. She’s been getting tufts of Bosco-fur stuck in them and when I removed some of it yesterday, one of her claws started bleeding profusely. Rather then just leave it alone, I thought it best to have her checked out. Cats here tend to get fungus on their claws due to the high humidity in our climate.

One final note, I called Knitpicks today and a replacement needle is on its way to me! Thanks to everyone who let me know that they would do this for me. Their customer service is really fantastic. Now if only they would lower their outrageous shipping and handling charges to Alaska and Hawaii.

    Dear Opal,

And the cat drama just keeps comming! I’m glad cookie is home but it looks like there will be alot of very physical negotiating between all the kitties before they have settled the pecking order. I hope you survive it! As for the socks, they still look really good to me in spite of the sag issue. My sister down-loaded the Jay Walker pattern too so I hope she can also make adjustments so they fit. I hope the sock curse is gone for good!

Way to power through. I still need to make some Jaywalkers. They’re next on my sock knitting list…as soon as I finish some ribbed ones. I hope the kitty drama settles down for you soon.

Don’t worry about the sub-q injections…they are not hard, and not painful, so cats usually cooperate pretty well. You and the Cookie will be just fine. Good luck with Pressie’s claws! (UCK, FUNGUS)

    hugggggggggssssss

Welcome home, Cookie! It’s interesting that we can actually see their facial expressions!
I can definitely feel your pain with regard to the shipping cost … a bit outrageous!

jaywalkers look pretty, even with the extra sag….i love my jaywalkers and wear them all the time, i like the dense fabric it makes….

Congrats on breaking out of the sock curse – the jaywalkers are beautiful! I love the pattern too – I made a pair last year from Socks That Rock and still wear them all the time. Glad Cookie is home, and hope she gets back to normal soon!

So glad Cookie is back home and well. She and Bosco will work out their differences/living arrangements as time goes on. I know about fungi in damp climates. Wolfie had constant ear problems until we moved to Wyoming. Now his ears are clear and healthy. Love the Jaywalkers. Those are on my ToDo list for sure.

Cookie must be so happy to be back home! I hope Pressie is doing well. Your Jaywalker socks are gorgeous! The colors and the design work so nicely together.

WTG on breaking the curse! They do look good. (Had you already washed them? That might help??) So does Cookie. : )

Ugh, I’d be scared to have to give shots too. I have the most un-cooperative cat on earth, though. I’ll be crossing my fingers for you! Maybe you can segregate Bosco into another room for a while each day to give Cookie some time to chill out?

I’ve never given sub-q fluids before, but watched a friend do it with her cat, and it didn’t seem too bad, once you got used to it. Think of it as an investment in your personal home-medic training…

Jaywalkers are cute!! Mine are baggy and ill-fitting, too, but as was earlier commented, they are cool nevertheless. Love that misty colorway!

Happy easter. May all your chicks and bunnies be fluffy.
