Don’t Feed The Shawls

RSS/Bloglines Dilemma And A Confession

After reading about the Pros and Cons of offering the full feed versus the short feed, I decided that trek had it right. After much hunting, I figured out how to change my own feed to the short version.

One of the main Pros of going to the short feed she mentioned was the decreased comments on the blog. While I haven’t noticed a significant decrease of comments of late, in fact I’ve noticed quite the opposite (thank you!), I would like to see if offering the shorter feed will generate more comments.

Truth be told, I am a comment whore. (Haha! I just called myself a whore!) I really thrive on the feedback of my fellow knitters. Not only does it encourage me to keep this blog going, but it encourages me to keep knitting. I’m not saying that I would stop knitting and blogging if I suddenly got a drop in the popularity vote. What I’m saying is that I would definitely enjoy it a little less. The kind words and constructive criticism I get keeps my confidence up, when I tend to have very little.

I’ve never considered myself to be a very good knitter. This is not meant to be fishing expedition for compliments, it’s just the simple truth. I know that over the last year I have greatly improved, but I still go through bouts of mass insecurity. It’s during those times that the blog and all the wonderful people I have met here has come to my rescue.

So I’m going to experiment with the short feed for now. I’d love to hear what you all think. Hate it? Love it? Don’t care?

The Forest Path Stole

I am plugging away on the FPS and I’m on Tier 3. I would have taken a picture of it, but it is really dark here today. We’ve got the tail end of a storm system moving through the island chain and the sun is just refusing to come out to play. Hopefully I’ll have pictures later this week and then I will have more to report.

Hidcote Garden Shawl In Action

At the last Aloha Knitters meeting, I took my Hidcote Garden Shawl. Blogless Michelle was kind enough to model it for me as she is tall and willowy.

Look how huge the shawl is! You can’t quite see, but it just hits her knees. To give you some sort of comparison of size, here is the shawl on my short figure.

See how it extends way past my wingspan? And I do believe it goes way past my knees. I nearly gave this shawl to Michelle right there and then, but I’m not ready to give it up just yet.

I am so grateful for all the wonderful comments on the shawl. For a change, I am really proud of how this one turned out. I adore the colour and the way it floats around like a cloud.

Socks!

Last, but not least, did you all see that Cookie A. has got her shop site up? She did a fabulous job with it. Go and look! Go and drool! Go and shop! Then please be sure to let her know how much you love it by leaving a comment on her blog. I think she deserves to know just how much of a success she has become.

Well, I guess you need someone to comment, then. :-)

Your Hidcote is sooooo beautiful - don’t give it away, you deserve to keep it.

    Wow! It’s beautiful……and BIG!

I’ve noticed that my comments are down, but so is my knitting with only 3 completed projects so far this year. I lost three subscribers in the last week. Pout. Gotta get knitting!

Your little short feed trick worked :)

Wow, what a beautiful piece of work! I’m not sure I have the patience to knit one that big (though I’ll surely try) it’s stunning!
ps - yes, saw the sock patterns up, and got my own now *whew* I suppose you’re off the hook for the vicarious living… ;)

Hidcote is beautiful, and I agree that you should keep it. You worked so hard. You deserve to wear it. Thanks for the tip on Cookie A. I went to her site and ordered 4 patterns. Her designs are so pretty. I imagine you will be starting one after the FPS is finished. When do we get to see a peek of FPS? Soon, I hope.

The shawl is amazing! Really beautiful - I wouldn’t give it away if it were mine. Nice trick on bloglines…let us know if it works!

Dude, I am a comment ho too. (Dude, I just said dude.) But you have way more subscribers than me…

Also, the shawl is awesome! And awesomely huge. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a big one! (I love the color, and you know me, saturated colors all the way!)

Er, short feed? I have no idea what you are talknig about! I open the webpages when Bloglines tells me there is a new post, instead of reading inside Bloglines.

Haven’t decided on socks yet - which of the ones you got do you like the best? (Oh yeah, I think I might be out of the SM contest - there is only one more slot open in my “division”, and I am still on the foot of my second sock - Hi! I have to work! And also go to really long operas mid-week!)

I always clicked out from bloglines anyway, so the change doesn’t bother me!

  11. Ria Says:

That’s one huge shawl! Did you intend it to be so large, or did it just end up that way?

  12. Roseann Says:

Hidcote is sooo gorgeous on! A perfect marriage of precision knitting, color, & design, you should both be on a cover of a magazine. Amazing! Thank you for Cookie’s info, very helpful.

  13. Jane Says:

Your shawl is just beautiful. I’m glad you got to wear it and show it off. It’s one of the perks to be able to show it to other knitters. I know what you mean about people responding to your blog. I know I wrote my blog even when no one was commenting on it, but it’s really nice to know people are out there enjoying the same kind of thing you are. They can appreciate the level of commitment and difficulty that sometimes comes along with knitting your treasures. I have to run off now and look at Cookie’s new site!

I sent you an email to the akamai address listed on your website. Just wondered if you got it?

  15. knitnana Says:

Hidcote is gorgeous, and I LOVE big shawls! I think you and I might be about the same height - I’m 5′2″ - and the thing I love most about my Highland Triangle shawl is how dramatic and big it is!
    (ok…comment ‘ho, here ya go!)
    ((hugs))

  16. Sande Says:

I always like the longer feeds and sometimes when a truncated entry shows up in bloglines I just move on. YOUR blog, however, I ALWAYS click on so I can see everything. Now, do you feel better? sandeleh@sbcglobal.net (I like email)

  17. desiknitter Says:

It’s gorgeous! You can bundle it up and wear it when it’s cold, too. It really looks beautiful.

  18. FibreJunky Says:

Don’t you dare give it away!! It’s gorgeous. I know it doesn’t often get cold in Honolulu, but you, personally, get chilled on occasion. Besides, big, cozy shawls are just fun. Beautiful, big, cozy shawls are a bonus.
    Excellent knitting.
