The Jayne Hat is finally finished and boy is it ugly. The ear flaps give me endless grief. The ear flaps uglify the whole business, but I suppose if I’m gonna do the hat, I’m gonna do it Right.
I don’t have the specs for the whole business, but here’s what I do have: Lamb’s Pride Bulky in Raspberry for the ear flaps; size 10.5US needles; and the pattern was taken from here. I didn’t use a pompom. Nor did I leave the strings on the ends of the ear flaps. I’ll ask David if he prefers a string to tie the hat under his chin. If he does then I’ll just add some i-cord.
This was the first knitted item I’ve ever finished that was knit by request. I consider it a testament of the strength of my friendship and the strength of my will. Of course the fact that the Lamb’s Pride is so silky soft sure did help.
I’m not sure if I can get this to David in time for his birthday, which is on the 29th of November, but I’m sure going to try!

Its not ugly! Very colorful, and it just looks soft - I’m sure he’ll love it.

The colors are so bright & cheery and you stitches are very even, what beautiful knitting! I did a trade once where I had to knit someone two pairs of socks & it was torture for me because I had to do it. I hope David shares a picture of him modeling his new hat.

I think Jayne Cobb would wear it proudly.

[...] In other news, there are some of you that might remember the Jayne Hat, aka the ugliest hat ever, I knit back in November. Well it’s finally landed and the recipient couldn’t be more pleased. See him modeling it here. I’m so glad he loves it for I surely cannot see what he finds in it to love. Though I do think it looks kinda cute on him. I also need to come clean with you all for I have lied. Remember the Shifting Sands Scarf I made? Now I told everyone here and everyone else that would listen that it was for my Aunt Eleanor, but really it was for my friend Jenny. She just got it today and she loves it! Let’s hope this mention of it will nudge her into blogging about it. Am I not sly? All my other gifts for Christmas 2006 have landed in the past week and I’m reminded as to why I love gift giving so much. I hear that the young man who got the pirate mittens wore one of them while doing his schoolwork, while his sister went to sleep with the scarf I made her. I can’t wait to make the matching hat for the boy and I’m ruminating on what I can make next for the young girl. She’s only 3 years old, so maybe I could make her a little sweater. I think some conference time with her mother is needed. [...]
