Pattern: Gentleman’s Socks
Yarn: Trekking XXL
Needles: Size 1US
Started: September 1st, 2006
Finished: October 21st, 2006
I finally finished the Gentleman’s Socks today while watching the World Series. I had a hard time finishing these socks because I got stuck on the toes. For some reason I just got sick of knitting these socks, even though I really liked the pattern and I really liked the yarn. I didn’t bother making sure that the stripes were matchy matchy and from what I understand you can’t really do that with Trekking XXL anyway.

I’m really glad I finally did finish them though, because they fit like a dream and they feel really great on. I think I’d definitely use this pattern again, despite the fact that it felt like it took such a long time to get through these socks. I think it’s because I only worked on the sporadically while at the dentists or when I felt like it in the car.
I’m glad I joined Socktoberfest to kickstart me into finishing these socks, but when I join a knitalong I usually end up losing all enthusiasm for the project. This has proven true time and time again. The only knitalong that I’ve really stuck to has been the Diamond Fantasy Knitalong. I loved that shawl so much I even knit it twice! It’s a good thing that Socktoberfest has such loose guidelines.
I really wonder at myself though. I’ve joined some wonderful knitalongs and met some wonderful people through them. If only I could actually knit along with them! Maybe I’m just a rebel knitter at heart that has to find her own lonesome path. *smirk*

Great socks and great colors! I’m the same way on knitalongs - I think its hard to stay focused on one thing in my case.

The one sure way to make me stop knitting something is for me to join a KAL. I had made about 8 pairs of socks in a row earlier this year, then I joined the Summer of Socks and only made one more pair and quit making socks for a while. Your socks look great. It’s only possible to get the Trekking Jacquard stripes to match, not their regular old yarn, but that’s part of the beauty in my opinion.

I’m glad you stuck with it because those socks (and the yarn) are quite lovely! Nice job.

Great job on the socks Opal! Trekking yarn is so pretty, and I love that pattern! I might have to make a pair of those myself!

Beautiful socks, Opal! I know what you mean about knitting along (or not knitting along), I ripped out my Iris Garden socks last night and am not sure if/when I am going back to them. Thanks for letting us know that Trekking does not necessarily match up, you have saved me a lot of work!

Ooooh, lovely Gentleman’s Socks. The socks from KVS are so prety! Now that Backyard Leaves is done I can get back to my Child’s French Socks. And the other bazillion projects I’ve got going. :)
